12 Steps: Addiction Recovery, One Day at a Time

Ойын-сауық

Few groups have helped people stay in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction than 12-step groups. In this episode, Steve Canino, the CEO, and owner of Coachella Valley Recovery Center talks with Jenny Leone about AA, the 12 steps, relapse, and the importance of working your program to deliver yourself from addiction.

I’m 24 and have been hooked on booze for over a year now. Drinking every day and night since. I have my first therapy session tomorrow and am so excited to actually get clean. This video helped me out so much to know that I am not alone with this problem. Thank you

Absolutely love what Steve is all about, I pretty much had the same experience, I no longer suffer with the trauma of alcoholism or addiction, and yes I found my God through doing the steps of AA, I work steps every day and yes im a better man for it. I can't believe how hard it is to pray or mention anything about God in the beginning, my kids could see my being physically sick or fighting with people, stealing, crying, they knew what drink or drugs I was using, but to get on my knees and say a prayer to my God I would shut the door so no one could see. I had my last drink on 23rd March 2019, I am a grateful recovered Alcoholic and I just wanted to say thank you for this positive message . God bless you 🙏 ❤️

I just used the Alan Carr book. I also hate the hitting bottom concept in 12 step groups and I believe in the spectrum as opposed to disease concept.

Relapse is not a part of the disease. The disease is ambivalent. Relapse is a part of recovery and the various different treatment approaches.

If these 12 step programs and rehabs want more credibility they would do well to temper down the obvious thing a lot of people see, which is everybody saying the same things and showing no sense of individuality or independent thought. Do people realize not everybody who goes through substance abuse issues has the exact same fucking story? Its a problem when these meetings and rehabs attempt to not just tell their own story, but to try and lump me in as destined to have the exact same story. Drug use or no drug use, other people dont have the right to attempt to write my own story for me. Also if it truly is a real medical disease then treat it as such. Dont say that then turn around and say the solution is a religious, groupthink cult. It makes zero sense and anyone with any critical thinking skills can see this plainly.

Thanks for your input. You're right, individual experiences with substance abuse vary greatly, and a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work for everyone. It's important for recovery programs to recognize and respect each person's unique journey.
