Sharon Mtai It can be a very difficult to be in a relationship with a narcissistic individual. One of their tactics is to make one feel that anything that goes wrong is always the other persons’ fault. When in all actuality, the narcissist’s behaviors, such as gaslighting, create the majority of the issues in relationships. They love to make people question reality. It is very sad for the individuals who truly have love for them.Once you realize what you are dealing with, it is one step to peace and recovery from such an abusive relationship.

I’m guessing the 59 dislikes for this video are from 59 narcissists. One thing I have found with them is that they refuse to see the truth about themselves no matter what and will downplay anything that they do that is in any way hurtful. So a narcissist would probably watch this and say this is certainly not me but I don’t see what the big deal is anyway.

Jealous.. cannot support without personal gain. This is what I have noticed about my friend among other things. He is in a way smart, looks good but it's like he's attatched, has no one to talk to except me, feels lonely. I tell him enrich your inner world but he seems too possessive and again, 'lazy' as explained earlier in the vid. All 5 signs seems to fit for him as described. What I do like about him however is that he is in a way open about some of his weaknesses and I am that savior that is gonna fix!! It is stupid but I am almost automatically drawn to those who are in some way dysfunctional. I don't know why. Could be that they have more time to spare or just seem interesting/off in some way and I seek that uniqueness/problem solving.

If they complain, take away the log splitter and give them an ax. If they still complain, take away the pick up and give them a wheel barrow. If they still complain, take away the chain saw and give them a hammer and chisel. I am suffering because my Grandmother,She an epitome of narcissistic personality. We treat her nicely but she keeps finding faults in our actions. The silent treatment is real, she doesn't talk to us if we try to talk and make a conversation she says something hurtful which makes each one of member in our family sad. My mom is feels sad each time, she tries to have a good conversation with her. My grandmother is a person filled with negative energy, envoy, jealousy. She constantly want to be entitled to every small task she does, like turning off lights when not in use .

The narcs I've known never seemed to have fantasies of unlimited power, but two were very wierd about a perfect partner. They also like attention in a way that is different than most people. Also they see people as their servers. Like, for money (one was, or is, like this), or take from others but don't give any love in return. Really self enitled, and very little genuine empathy, or no empathy. They like to bully in the devalue phase, which is the main portion of any relationship with a narc. They can be quiet or socially draining, depending on if they're grandiose or covert (vulnerable) type. Some seem "reserved ". But, they all are difficult.

linda swartoff I think you recognize an important point about mental health care. It is often put to the side. Ultimately it is (mental health) often the leading factor that goes un-addressed. But it is also the exact factor that often contributes to things like compliance. Mental health is so under studied, diagnosed, treated. Under treated mental health issues often goes along with many of the problems we have in society.

I think my fourteen-year-old sister might have NPD, or some level of narcissism. She is selfish, spoiled, dislikes me, has to have her way, complains to our mom when she doesn't, always wants sleepovers with friends and fashion or hair stuff from stores, can't really take no for an answer, doesn't seem to care about my feelings, says I'm dramatic when I express anxiety or anger (the latter caused by her usually), and says mean things about me. She won't let me eat around her because of her FU**ING sensitive ears (people with sensitive ears are so selfish), doesn't really do much to make things easier for our mom, disrespected my limited ability to understand information (I have a learning disability), is sarcastic, tells me to shut up and not bother her and her friends, and flips out at me a lot. Is she narcissistic, or just plain selfish and hormonal?

People often resort to defense mechanisms to protect themselves.... and they end up hurting themselves and others. You can have narcissistic traits but that doesn’t always indicate you have this disorder. Either way, getting professional help is a good thing. Therapy is also good. Most narcissist are never able to do that because their entire world would fall apart. Many people have narcissistic traits, but do not necessarily have the actual personality disorder. I really wonder if I have that. I mean we are told to end toxic (and obsolete) relationships, if we want to be people with a healthy self-esteem. What's wrong about trying and succeeding? I sometimes do get jealous if someone else gets a positive comment (but I have learned that it is 'not healthy' from all sorts of angles to have these jealous thoughts. So I have them more rarely, and when I have them I hide them - obviously, otherwise people can blame me of being a narcissist (witch, anyone else sees a parallel ?!). I can listen to others, I can see their point -if they have a valid one. The problem: 'narcissism' is ubiquitous, everyone has their opinion and it becomes hard to keep on talking to those who are too weak at self-reflection to see how they are wrong ... The word and concept of narcissism does not help. It's just another vice to blame, hurt and sentence people ...

Maria Giangiulio I do recommend seeing a psychiatrist if you are truly concerned. This is a personality disorder. Most people do display a few of these characteristics here and there. We are humans; we like to protect ourselves. Whereas a personality disorder is a “deeply ingrained pattern of behaviour of a specified kind that deviates markedly from the norms of generally accepted behavior, typically apparent by the time of adolescence, and causing long-term difficulties in personal relationships or in functioning in society:“ (oxford dictionary). Think of it this way; It’s kinda like, if you have cough and shortness of breath-it doesn’t always indicate that you have pneumonia. There is CHF, asthma, bronchitis, etc...Just because you carry some of those signs/symptoms of a narcissist, doesn’t mean that is the actual diagnosis. There can be other diagnosis, underlying causes, lifestyle factors that can contribute to your responses. This is why a psychiatrist can truly help guide you to determine if you have this disorder or another (or various). And also what you can do about it.

In all of medicine we have “guidelines”, manuals, scales, tools, etc...to help with diagnosis. Every situation is different, every person is different. Part of being a health care provider is being able to read between the lines and interpret a person’s behaviors, signs, symptoms. Sometimes someone presents just like they have one disease/disorder and we actually find that it’s somethings else. We always say don’t treat the test, treat the person. Same goes with guidelines. This video alone should not serve as a way to diagnose yourself. This is simply “textbook” information from DSM-5 manual. This is why seeing a therapist or psychiatrist is so important so that they can help you find the answers/treatment you need.
