The shampoo bottle hack isn’t new. We first did it in 2006. We did it in protest, however, because the cruise mandated that if one person is a cabin wanted the drink package, EVERYONE in that cabin had to get it and two out of three people didn’t drink alcohol at all. I understand why the rule is in place, but it’s completely unfair to non-drinkers.

I'm about to take my first cruise soon, I don't drink alcohol, but the other 3 adults I'm roomed with do, I too noticed that they require everyone in the room to get the alcohol package if one person wants it... why is that? I've never cruised before, so I don't get why this rule exists. And once we're on the ship, can we simply buy alcohol normally if we wanted to or must we have an alcohol package?

If it is $50 a day, I'd just demand that the drinkers all give me $10 a day or so each. If they want it, they should pay for it.

@@man_on_wheelz They’re afraid the person with the package will just funnel drinks to the other person, effectively making it a two for one. You can really only circumvent it when you’re with a larger group, by booking all of the drinkers in one stateroom and then trading rooms to travel as you’d like.

I recently took a cruise to Mexico on Norwegian Cruise in March and I was allowed my power bar on the cruise. The reason was that the cabin power is linked to your card. If you want to keep the lights on and power plugs working while in your room, you need your key card in the power slot. If there is no card in there, there is no power and so no worries about hazards.

lol, we took a cruise several years ago where we leisurely traveled by car down to the port, making a stop in the Smoky Mountains. We played a really cool wizard game that you had to purchase wands with memory chips in the handles, and we just packed them into our luggage for the rest of the ride down to the port. Our luggage got detained in security, at the port, before boarding, because security wasn’t sure what they were. They did allow us to keep them and take them on the ship once we explained what they were.😂 Moral of the story: Unusual, but otherwise harmless items may cause you some unwelcome complications. Consider carefully what you put in your suitcase if it seems to you that it may fall outside the norm.

Regarding taking drones on a cruise, research the respective port's of calls you are visiting for local laws governing their use. I recently saw a vlog about a couple who were imprisoned for using a drone in the country they were visiting. They were unaware that the country had a strict no fly zone where they were using the drone.

I recently got back from a 10 day Caribbean cruise. I have back issues, and a heating pad is so helpful. I researched an alternative, and found a wrap type pad that Velcro together around your waist, which was heat activated by a simple cellphone type charger. The charger slipped into a little pouch, and a wire in the pouch hooked up to the charger. It was a thin battery, not much weight to it. I wrapped that pad around my waist, and slipped the battery into the pouch. It worked so well. No one said a thing about it. I did not try to hide it either. Prior to boarding, I took it off and put it in my carry on suitcase. Nothing was said. The steward had to have seen it laying on the nightstand several times too. I got it from amazon. Hopefully I’ve not gotten away with anything corrupt 😂. I sure was open and honest about what I had 🤷‍♀️

I packed one of the solid Renuzit air fresheners once. I waited and waited for my luggage which was never delivered. Finally we received a message to report to guest services to get my suitcase. I couldn’t figure out what had been confiscated because I knew I didn’t pack any verboten items. They took me behind the counter to the holding room to open my bag in their presence since it was locked with a TSA approved lock. My husband has a multi tool that he carries in his shave kit that he has carried (and used) on every cruise that we have gone on except one. This multi tool comes with bits to fit the screwdriver part of the tool. We took a Canada-New England cruise on Carnival and they told us that we had to either return them to our vehicle or that they would be confiscated because they looked like bullets. All you had to do was look at them (which they did) to know that they weren't but because they looked like bullets on the Xray, they were going to take them. Our vehicle was parked close by so hubby returned them to our vehicle.

Yeah we bought the ship's water one time, but it was so expensive. And we were told it's the same water that you get out of the water dispenser in the buffet. So now we just bring an empty travel mug. And that way you can fill it up with their coffee or a variety of hot teas, water and lots of times they have juices or lemonade or iced tea. And it's nice to be able to carry it back to the room to take pills at night or just have something to drink when you get back to your room. Just follow the rules for filling it up, they will be posted, sometimes they want you to use a separate cup.

@@sarahthomas8201 There I picked mine up at Pike's Market - they have beautiful flowers and will let you pick the flowers if you want. There is also a Whole Foods near Pier 91 that we have stopped at for flowers and snacks

I was able to take a heating pad (not a blanket) on a cruise. I had asked their customer service ahead, printed the email, and had a note from my doctor. I have taken a tiny travel iron on a cruise, but it was many years ago. The room divider curtain is about it’s not going to have the fire retardant on it.

My husband got his Swiss army knife confiscated at the beginning of one cruise. At the end of the cruise he picked it up. Unfortunately, it had been shrink wrapped and the only tool he had to break open the shrink wrap was the wrapped knife🤦‍♀️

I am amazed you got the knife on the plane. I always leave my Swiss army knife at home. The maker of Swiss army knives is planning to release a model of the Swiss army knife without a blade, just the tools.

@@lindabradford9591 I had the exact same thing happen while going to a golf tournament. Fortunately the device had no sentimental value, so I told the security person they could have it. My Swiss army knife is another matter.

I haven’t been caught with anything naughty, but my son bought me that steamer for Christmas and it’s a total piece of crap. It worked great…twice! I haven’t been able to get it to work again.
