The "Smooth Criminal" Mandela effect is just a confusion. Actually the lyrics is "you've been struck by", but only on the second refrain. In the first refrain is "you've been hit by"

honestly i dont think the Smooth Criminal one is really a mandela effect, rather it's just confusion. In the music video version the "you've been struck by" isn't there, but in the single version/radio edit he DOES say it in the second verse (the second verse is shortened as well.) it's also there in the lyrics on google.

Hanson does refer to his hand as his "strong hand" but is not the particular window scene everyone is referring to. It is whenever Cindy arrives at Hell House in the film. He is helping her carry her bags and he says he has to use his "Strong Hand" and drops all of her belongings on the floor. That's where people get it confused.
@fatefatefate

@benkirkpatrick6343
Жыл бұрын
I think it's also because just saying "take my hand" wouldn't really make sense since it's so vague. You could be referring to a bunch of different movies with that. By saying "take my strong hand" it's a more direct reference.
@LilyoftheLake14
Жыл бұрын
@@benkirkpatrick6343 Exactly! It's the kind of concept with The Empire Strikes Back and how everyone quotes/remembers the famous line of, "Luke, I am your father." Even though the line is "No, I am your father." If you said the line as is, it's way more vague and could fit other movies. By adding "Luke," at the beginning, you're slightly changing the line to give it context outside of the movie. Similarly, the line of, "take my hand," is suuuuppper vague and in tons of movies, so slightly changing it to, "take my strong hand," especially when said in the higher pitched voice, of that character gives the line context outside of the movie. Another example is casablanca with, "Play it again, Sammy." When the name of the pianist, "Sammy," isn't said with that line but just saying, "play it again," is too vague of a reference. I don't think any movie line changed slightly by adding a character name or word which clarifies the quote, even though it's not the actual word for word line, I seriously dont think those are examples of mandela effexts. They're people adding context to a movie quote because it's outside of the movie and for the reference to make sense, sometimes you have to add or change a word. Definitely not a mandela effect; I don't know why this concept is so difficult for some to understand lol. Like, which is it? Do people just add/change a word of a famous movie line to give it context when making a reference to it outside if the film? Or is that proof if multiple time lines exist and the earth phases through them and in these other time lines, the quotes were actually performed in the film the same way people quote them outside of the film? Hmmmmmm.... 🤔 Which is more plausible? 😆 lol.

I thought it was used in the window scene when the guy hanging asks for the other hand but Hanson says "but this is my strong hand"
The DBZ one makes sense in 2001 because TV guides didn't always line up with what was being shown at the moment. I remember numerous times wanting to watch a specific show only to be disappointed when a different show would be aired.
@pablozanoto5801
Жыл бұрын
I think DBZ may have been aired as a gap sealer in the station's programming. It happened with an anime that just passed under these circumstances to replace a show that can't air at the moment. The anime was GS Ghost Sweeper Mikami. It is also said that the dubbing was lost by just passing through these super specific moments, which few people saw and that no one was able to record. There are no records of the anime's passage on the station either, as it aired in the last cases.

let me clarify something here, Im Brazilian, and we used to have this daily show called TV GLOBINHO(it was only cartoons and animes), Globo is the biggest TV station in Brazil till this day(that's why everybody have this fake or not memory), every morning TV Globinho was aired normally at 9:30am, but if I remember correctly, the 9/11 was about 8:40am here in brasil and happened BEFORE the tv globinho/DBZ was supposed to be aired (I asked my older brother and he said DBZ was always the last anime at almost 11am) that's why that tv show wasn't aired that day, the whole schedule was about 9/11 news already, like an hour before, so it wasn't interrupted cause the tv globinho wasn't even aired that specific day (sorry if it sounds confusing TT)

I grew up in church. I do remember dragons being mentioned in the Bible. A lot of people growing up (including myself) didn't read a lot of the OT, especially the books of the prophets, which even as an adult, are difficult reads. Also a lot of more modern English translations do not use the word dragon in a lot of places where the KJV does (ancient Hebrew is difficult to translate and our knowledge of the language has increased greatly, along with more manuscripts being founded since the KJV was translated). EXACTLY... so many people don't understand how difficult it is to translate ancient texts to make sense in modern language, there are simply too many terms that don't have a modern equivalent which leads us to MANY different interpretations of the texts. liberties must be taken by translators to make it as accurate as possible without straying too far from the original meaning, but it will happen regardless and there's no way around it. there's always been tons of debate about the bible and whether certain parts are inaccurate or simply misleading due to the terminology used. there will continue to be confusion over the scripture, it's really interesting but i wish we could really know what they had tried to convey in the original writings, we can only speculate i guess :/ i'm hopeful that they'll be able to crack the code though lol, i'm not christian but i still am very interested in the teachings

A few of these are really interesting. Most Mandela effects anymore are things I can see being misremembered. Like the Smooth Criminal lyric, some lyrics become fluid like that. I think it's all still fascinating, though, becuase of how memory works. It's crazy how people can influence memory. I believe in collective memory and the collective unconscious, esp to an extent...all very fascinating

Exactly! Even though I don’t believe in the Mandela Effect and I do think most of them can be explained, I think it’s still very interesting and it’s frustrating to see some people be so critical and dismissive about a genuinely interesting part of psychology! It’s a nice conversation to have about the human mind
Smooth Criminal is my favorite song by Michael Jackson. I clearly remember watching it on Deman with Comcast back in middle school (I'm 24) after my stepfather introduced me to him. I clearly remember the lyrics being "you've been hit by, you've been hit by". One day I heard it as "you've been hit by, you've been struck by" somewhere on the internet and I got a very odd feeling from it. Like laying your phone face down then turning back to see it face up. I chalked it up to it being some kind of remastered version or something. Dare I say, now that I think of it, it was the first set of lyrics while he was alive and the second set after he died 🤔

The only one that kind of got me was Shaggy's Adams Apple. But honestly seeing the 2 side by side, shaggy definitely didn't have one. It's still cool to see examples of people getting things confused like this. But most of them seem like honest mistakes that make sense. I think the Mandela effect happens the most to people that have a harder time accepting that they don't have a perfect memory (99.9% of people don't). For most of these questions, I either got it right, got it wrong but accepted that I was wrong, or just accepted that I could be convinced either way.

Yeah I think people confuse Shaggy's chin-lump with an Adam's apple. Their subconscious knows he has a lump somewhere! :)
The Scary Movie 2 one I think is just a case of misremembering. It’s always been “My other hand isn’t strong enough”. Also I’m fairly certain it was always like that with Smooth Criminal too. “Hit” is in the first verse and “struck” was in the second verse. It’s common to make slight changes in lyrical content later on in a song.
Dude, your Mandela videos are undisputedly THE BEST out there
So in the case of the Michael Jackson example, I think this miss-remembering by all involved could be due to an interesting mental behavior where, much like a human's propensity to seek out patterns, creative people specifically could have this preference of thinking that repeating the same line in a chorus of a song doesn't sound right and it makes more sense to change the word up for power and emphasis. I know any time I try to write sentences describing something in an essay or a blog entry, I want to find more than one way to describe what I'm talking about to make it more expressive and meaningful for the reader. I wouldn't want to say the same thing the same way over and over again. So I think this could be a case where the first person to cover the song and other persons just trying to karaoke sing the song think that Michael had two different words in that chorus when he didn't, which might seem odd given his perfectionism.

I too remembered Darling for the dancing frog, however I feel like it's definitely Honey, as I remember misquoting it for years, and then after watching it again, realised the error. Also the Smooth Criminal one has the struck line in the second iteration of the chorus, though it kind of reminds me of another music-related Mandela effect, where people remember Queen's We Are the Champions ending with "...of the world!" like it does in the chorus during the song, which is true in many live performances, but not true for the studio version.
It’s so funny hearing the word cannon and the Bible in the same sentence 💀

here is another Mandela effect. When I was 7, My school showed us Snowwhite. I clearly remember the queen saying "Mirror mirror on the wall." ten years later, I rewatched Snowwhite with my sister. I actually DO remember seeing the phantom ending in Spirited Away. No, I did not see it in theaters but I watched it on either VHS or DVD (I don't remember which one) at home when I was about 5. Here is what I remember in detail (I haven't seen spirited away in years so maybe some of these scenes were actually in the movie) : When Chihiro looks back at the tunnel, she goes inside but the inside looks like how the Minecraft recreation depicted it. She explores the place then goes out of the tunnel and sees a weird statue resembling the one in the recreation and the car is gone with tire marks in place of the car. (or the car was there I don't know) then the credits roll and the movie ends. (I'm not Japanese I'm Filipino so other people must've experienced this Mandela effect too.)

The person who posted that they sing hello my baby to their dogs wasn't even half way correct. Not only does it say honey, not darling but it also says ragtime, not good time. Kinda shows you how people can have absolutely no clue what they are talking about yet still have confidence that they are somehow correct.
Years ago, my husband his cousin were joking around and horse playing. Husband put his arms around cousin trapping both arms. Cousin got one arm loose but still couldn’t get away. Cousin jokingly said “It’s because you got my strong hand.” Cousin actually has a deformity in that hand. My point is we remember it that way too.
I 100% remember the Hello my Darling version of the frog one, with the frog way back when on Cartoon Network. It was a fave episodes due to the absurdity of it and the guy not able to make any headway with his plans. I also remember the "Take my strong hand" one, as well as Fruit Loops.

In the original one on the second verse it says ‘if you refuse me darling you’ll lose me...’. I think that’s where the mind gets it from and remembers it on the first line. I clearly remember it with ‘honey’, as I would always sing it to my friends to make them laugh. I don’t know if a later version changed it, but the original one on Saturday morning cartoons in the early 80’s was the only one I watched.

The Smooth Criminal one got me and I thought struck by was the lyric too. Though as you mentioned plenty of covers have messed it up so I blame them for getting that version stuck in my head. A lot of the other ones though I was not affected by the Mandela Effect. I was even singing honey as soon as you started that question about the singing bullfrog though that might be because Ilisten to the song every so often. I love it when people try to use this as evidence of broken time lines or collapsing multiverses or whatever when the more likely situation is most people have terrible memories and collectively its no better. The Brazilian one though I could believe is just a mistake on the networks end and DBZ was on at the time when something else was meant to be or some kind of human error in filing information, something like that.

The smooth criminal one is ridiculous because he actually says "struck by" in the second instance like you said. How is that even a Mandela Effect and not people failing to remember song lyrics?? C'mon people lol
btw smooth criminal had 2 versions on apple music(idk abt spotify) the original says “you’ve been hit by you’ve been hit by a smooth criminal” but the one in the michael jackson essentials album says “you’ve been hit by you’ve been struck by a smooth criminal” both versions are by the real michael jackson
For the Scary Movie one, I remember it as "take my little hand"
I have a theory - a lot of these things have to do with spellings, so my theory is that people knew the names of these brands as kids but didn’t know how to read yet, then they learned how to spell “fruit” or “einstein” and applied it to “froot loops” and “berstain” without checking
I researched and found that the "You've been struck by-" part only exists in the second stanza of the 2012 remastered version of the song
Thank god people know that the chorus changes on the second time in Smooth Criminal, I was gonna go crazy because I vaguely remember messing up by saying “struck by” in the first chorus.
Ok I’m sitting at like 15/15 on getting these accurately. I’ve remembered every single one of these without issue.
The “You’ve been hit by” one isn’t a Mandela effect. I checked. The music video says you’ve been hit by twice. But the single version said “Struck by” but only on the second refrain

the michael jackson one was just a simple mix up, he says hit by twice the first time then struck by the second time it comes up in the song. the converse logo was only for a specific type of shoe that looks very similar to the other types so it was another mix up. i have to say though, i vividly remember the dogs having green visors in a painting i saw but it could've been someone else's rendition. also it's always been "hello my baby, hello my honey" maybe i've seen too much looney tunes but it's ingrained in my mind from hearing it so much
