$12,000 HiFi power cord. Step in to the extreme HiFi with OCD Mikey

This goes through the Stage 3 Concepts latest Proteus design. Lets put My skills up against a real contender. I did tell you I design and create cables at the highest level, didnt I ? Then let me put my money where my mouth is. I expect this cable will floor mine, and after ill be tasked with improving my cable to see if i can make it sound as good as a $12K, 17LB ! Power cord.

I do see one potential benefit of using ribbon wire. It would reduce the skin effect, so AC impedance would not go up as much with frequency. But that would be measurable, maybe 1 db at 20 KHz. It wouldn't do much for 60 Hz power, and usually this is done for RF. It's why a lot of automobiles use woven flat cable for grounds from a hood to a chassis of a car for example. It's great for grounding RF.

As long as the supply voltage to the amplifier stage is filtered and always greater than the output voltage, no noise is going to transfer from mains to the amp output. The power cable's inductance makes no difference to anything. Nor its capacitance. Nor its resistance. All the filtering is provided post rectification with capacitors. Hi Mikey Do you know what really makes the biggest difference in power chords. It's when you properly align any power cable from the distribution board through the mains conditioner to each component. Cheaper cables properly aligned, can easily outperform more expensive cables which are misaligned. Have done many years research on that. You would need a bit of data from your electrician about your DB board layout and the mains conditioner manufacturing specs to make the correct alignment design. It's a new ball game if you have done that. Regards Hermann

exactly@@OCDHIFiGuy you have no idea what I know mate but let me tell you this, when people like yourself start claiming things like an overly engineered and overly expensive Cable WILL make a difference to sound quality when in fact it can not due to physics,(and if you knew anything about electronics you would simple agree and understand what actually happens with conductive elements and electricity) it gets old, It is damaging to the sport of wanting a good quality system. I'll explain, lets say a person is wanting to get into the hobby and is looking for the best sound for not too much money. it is hard to pick sometime due to there being a lot of choices and not the ability to compare every single possible option, it's not like buying a guitar where you can go to a store and sit and play all the guitars in the shop so you walk away with a much more educated point of view and can make a much better decision. What does an amp really sound like? it takes a carful comparison test to hear the difference between 2 amps, if the test is even possible for this person shopping? most times the gear is not able to even be played in store any more or at best in a limited way. then think about the other components needed to put together a good system, and think about how much each component effects the sound, then you people come along and add false opinions to the mix by suggesting a power cable will change the sound and different speaker cables sound different.........bullshit! it does not, you know it and the rest of the cable pushing nut jobs know it, do you know how I know? Because I had conducted extensive electronic measured tests when I was doing my advanced electronic engineering diploma at Chisholm institution melbourne, and do you want to know what happens in the world of electronics and physics? the only real world measurable differences where in frequency ranges 3 time that of human hearing, totally impossible for any human to detect and most likely almost impossible for any audio equipment to reproduce. we are talking a starting frequency of 75khz and an attenuation of only +/-3db @ this level it goes off the chart from this point depending on the construction of the cable and the materials used and the length of it but it is ALL in a realm of "IT MAKES NO AUDIBLE DIFFERENCES"! Where I would see any variations in the lower "human hearing"range say up to 20khz, it would be less than +/-0.03db, impossible for the human ear to detect, it is even difficult for electronic measuring devices to detect and they are thousands of times more sensitive than the human ear. Now with power cables, unless you use bridge rectifiers to smooth out the incoming signal and a high and low pass filter using electrolytic capacitor and resistors tuned to the frequency you wish to attenuate, leaving in most cases 50-60hz pass through, you are not going to get a difference out of a piece of cable, cable no matter what it is made of will not do this task in an electrical circuit and in this case used as a power transmission line. inside your electronic equipment these circuits exist. it's in your power transformer circuit, I assume you know how a transformer works? and how a rectifier circuit works and what diode turn on voltages are and how they work. all electronic equipment has these circuits due to the need for different voltages across the whole circuit. If you are still wanting to "Clean" up the power flowing into your equipment from your wall socket then a simple power conditioner containing the above mentioned circuits will do this, if you are concerned about the power spikes and possible damage it might do to your equipment the a power conditioner will usually include a circuit breaker and a Metal Oxide Varistor across all terminals but it will need a fuse too just incase it fails short, most of the time they are made to fail open but you don't want to risk it over a $0.20 fuse.

12,000 dollar power cord, well you wanna know why someone said " a fool and his money are soon parted ". If your doing it for looks, cool, but trying to sell that kinda stuff and make people think a power cord makes it sound better just fries me. It's called PLACEBO effect and it's REAL!!! Even with the most basic electricity 101 understanding of electricity and how gear works inside you know it's total B.S. Some science can't be overlooked.

Well I've heard power cords absolutely change the sound hundreds of times, but I agree 12 K is a little much. Although these pieces are sold to folks that you and I can't wrap her head around in terms of the money they spend. If you make $1 million a month then what's 12K on a stupid power cord it's nothing. So some hi-fi companies as I see it sort of sell out and make spectacle level accessories or gear to serve that level of client. And as strange as it sounds there's nothing wrong with that. I don't get it I don't buy it but someone's gotta do it so why not? I'm simply not there yet. Because I be making shiit up in order to make it cost 12,000 bucks

@@OCDHIFiGuy , I don't have a problem with people buying that kinda stuff if they have the money, that's what keeps the economy moving. I just get bugged when they know so well how to use the placebo effect to sell it to unsuspecting people. A lot of hi end audio is looks, that's fine. Look at speakers, how the boxes have changed, but the drivers are essentially unchanged since invented. But with my background in electricity and audio I know it's a physical impossibility for a 6 foot cord to do anything but transfer raw power from the wall to the device. I myself have experienced placebo many times and it's amazing how real it seem's and how easily our brain fools us. I've also made cords from everything from zip cord to fancy twisted, shielded, and so on. The power at the end of the cord is the same. Even if, and I say IF there was a slight difference the internal power supply negates it.

$12K? Is is solid silver? Then maybe... ($22/oz)(16 oz/lb)(17 lb) = $5984 Besides, wouldn't it be a lot cheaper to extend your outlet box next to the equipment using wire and conduit, then use a shorter, say 1' cable length? Or does there have to be a minimum length of esoteric power cable to see any results? If it was me I would spend the money on dedicated isolated ground circuits, and use a decent quality power cable. What you did with a separate power panel, and multiple grounds makes more sense to me. And then I would use a bank of batteries with an online UPS that continuously recharges the batteries, and a high level converter to create the 120V AC from the chemically isolated battery banks. That takes all of the other house and utility wiring out of the equation. In other words, you have a buffer of electricity stored as a chemical reaction, and you are creating your clean power on demand. Have you looked at isolation transformers? It's what a lot of medical equipment uses to get clean power.

Unshielded are generally better because they do not steer the sound in a FAKE hifi way. But saying that, is of course assuming that you then use high quality materials. Try and use a double pull on the power cable minus pole like I suggest in my videos, that gives you a lot more control/power/good timing. Also try a 50cm and a 100cm and a 200cm version of the same cable. (3 totally different sounds, where the shorter ones have a lot more focus and attack)

First let me say that i respect the passion you have for what you do but this video is what gives Hi-Fi and audiophiles a bad name. We understand that there are level to everything, but I would think that if you want to, eventually, sell the Ferrari to a car lover, you wouldn't shit on the BMW 3 series. This is potentially, your customer base. Great you make the Rolls Royce of power cables, but you make me feel like my system couldn't sound great at all. This kills the industry. My entire system cost $10k. Most people, when they hear it, shit themselves... like i would shit myself if i heard yours. But, i feel, this video makes me think i could never get music to sound the way it should according to you. It's the curse of the audiophile. No sound is perfect... I am an audiophile with deep understanding of manufacturing process, so if a piece of gear pisses me off while using it , I'm going to report that in my findings, unlike the other "everything is great" politically correct reviewers where everything they try is best they've heard. It does the serious audiophile reader no good. People know me for my honesty in expressing my opinion. So I have people consistently sending me links to products because they want me to find any shortcomings from what I can read. When I go to a HiFi website, it takes mv2 seconds

@@OCDHIFiGuy - So here's the thing. I signed up for your HiFi club, and the agreements of what you expect from the members, and how you will behave is exceptional. I am part of an intentional community and study human potential on an almost daily basis. Your TOC inspired me. Mad respect for this... I have also seen the video where you lambaste Constellation Audio for their $55,000 amplifier that is worth a tenth of that in build quality. I see you take manufactures to task and aren't shy about when people are being shafted. I see the value in a cable that is well-built, that is designed to work correctly, that is the proper configurations, that is durable, and the how a wow factor. Maybe even Audio Jewelry if it's made of solid silver or something. You can claim all the manufacturing goodness, the specs including electrical characteristics, the fit and functionality. So I don't mind higher end cables, as long as unsubstantiated claims are being made about them. However, I feel that a lot of the claims made for esoteric cables are misleading and can't be substantiated, including by you for your cables. This occurs to me as you not being consistent with who you say you are and what you purport your values to be. Most things that you say I agree with strongly, and maybe this is just you being OCD as you claim, and probably you do hear all these differences in your head. I would really like to see a study to put these high-end claims of esoteric cables to the test. I have some ideas on how this study could be conducted.

Because there is a buffer in between (the dam).. In this case the power capacitor is the dam.. From there on everything should be smooth.

These "boutique" companies are cable decorators. They make pretty looking cables for people who have the $12,000 to buy pretty looking cables. I don't really see any power cord being worth more than 5K. Once you have $100,000 system then you'll understand the importance of a power cord that cost 4 or 5K. Your plugging your equipment into an outlet that is 20 amps max. 12 gauge romex is rated at 12 amps, why do people think they need something that is so oversized for the task.
