पंडित शेखर सेन हे केवळ गायक, नट असून आता संगीत अकॅडेमीचे अध्यक्ष आहेत.त्यांच्या आईने त्यांना मुलींचे आणि मुलांचे संस्कार दिले. स्वयंपाक करणे , शिवण काम् करणे , सितार , वॉयलिन वादन आणि त्याचबरोबर रागदरी गायला शिकवली. ते पुढे कथ्थक नृत्य पण शिकले . १९७९ मध्ये ते मुंबईला म्युझिक डायरेक्टर बनण्यासाठी आले. जर तुम्हाला स्वतंत्र राहायचे असेल , तर सोपा उपाय म्हणजे गुरुद्वारा मध्ये जाऊन भजन गा . तेथे मानसन्मान पण मिळतो , थोडीशी दक्षिणा श्रद्धेच्या भावनेने मिळते आणि शेवटी उत्तम लंगरचे जेवण मिळते. अशी दुर्मिळ परंपरा जगात आणखी कुठे मिळणार नाही. ते दूरच्या मालाड , बोरीवलीच्या गुरुद्वारात जाऊन गायचे.त्यांनी १९४७ ते १९५३ या काळात पश्चिम पाकिस्तानात जी हिन्दी रचना केली गेली त्यावर कार्यक्रम केला. त्याला शिवसेनेने , सीबीआय आणि साताक्रुजच्या मशिदितील मौलवीनी आक्षेप घेतला . पण पूर्ण खुलासा केल्यानंतर कार्यक्रम पार पडला. सध्या हिंदुस्तानी संगीत थ्रिल किवा एक्साइटमेंट कडे झुकताना दिसते आहे द्वापार युग, त्रेता युग किवा काली युग घेतले तर त्यात ८%लोक वाईट असतात , २% लोक चांगले असतात आणि उरलेले ९० टक्के अनुयायी असतात .ज्यावेळी एखादी चांगली व्यक्ति समोर येते त्यावेळी लोक त्यामागे धाव घेतात. आम्ही घाबरून जाता कामा नये. आमचे सर्व राग अजुनी जीवंत आहेत ; आमची बंदिशे जीवंत आहेत.आमच्या परंपरा जीवंत आहेत. धोका हा कायमच असणार आहे . त्यामुळे निराशावादाने पाहू नये. ’सध्याची समस्या अशी गहन आहे की केवळ विद्यार्थी नव्हे तर त्यांचे गुरुपण फ्यूजन वाजवायला लागले आहेत. कितीही बाहेर जाऊन चाट आणि गोलगाप्पे खाल्ले तरी जोपर्यंत घराची साधी रोटी आणि सात्विक भाजी पोटात जात नाही तोपर्यंत जेवायचे समाधान मिळत नाही. खुशाल तुम्ही जेव्हडे हवे तेव्हडे फ्यूजन ऐका , त्यानंतर विलायत खान साहेबांची सितारीची धून किवा अली अकबर यांचे सरोद वादन ऐका , त्या फ्यूजन्चा मनावरील परिणाम केव्हाच निपटून काढेल. सोने हे सुलाखूनच उत्कर्षाने बाहेर पडते. मुंबईत पहिल्यानदी पाऊल ठेवल्यानंतर आपण कुठल्या धातूचे बनले आहोत. त्यांना उमगले की ते तांब्याचे घडलेले आहेत. जे ते नेहमी पॉलिश करून कायम चकचकित ठेवण्याचा प्रयत्न करतात. त्यांच्या मते लता मंगेशकर हे शुद्ध 24 कॅरेट गोल्ड ते एक १०० नंबरी सोने आहे. उत्तम आवाज, श्वास कसा धरायचा , कसा सोडायचा, माईकपासून किती अंतर ठेवायचे ,उत्तम उच्चार, अनेक भाषांवर प्रभुत्व या सर्व गुणांचा समुच्चय ! आशा भोंसले हे १८ कॅरेट गोल्ड आहे. तलवारिप्रमाणे कायम धार लावून सज्ज ! कोणता सूर पाहिजे तो खणखणीतपणे द्यायला सज्ज! जर आपल्याला हीरा कोंदणात बसवायचा असेल तर आणि “दिल चीज क्या है” हे समजून घ्यायचे असेल तर तुम्हाला १८ कॅरेट गोल्ड ची जरूरी आहे.

Great series on ICM Arvind ji, enjoying it a lot. It reminds me of the days I spent with Jayant Bhalodhkar a great Harmonium player from Baroda, when he lived in NZ. He had so much historic information on ICM and great artists from previous generations.
