I lost my leg when I was 21 years old. I've been through numerous prosthetics. I literally was in here telling the Ortho guy "get it right, please get it right for lumen." Good stuff

I can never understand why a vet would go right to euthanize when any animal has a disability that can be managed. I'm glad they got a second opinion & she's living a happy life!

It's a lot cheaper to euthanise a dog than to manage the disability. Over Lumen's lifetime she would have had tens of thousands of dollars worth of surgery, medications and prosthetics spent on her compared to much less on one euthanisation procedure. Unfortunately, people will often bankrupt themselves trying to keep their beloved pets going. Even worse, if someone can't afford the care a disabled dog requires but isn't recommended to have it euthanised, they may keep them alive but suffering or abandon them. It's generally a good recommendation, because the people who can afford and are willing to spend money on care will ask about other options or do so, whilst the people who can't can make a sensible choice for everyone involved.

I can. @Lemolea made one good point. The doctor's are first is the lifetime cost and the concerns of the human's ability to pay for the costs it will take to maintain an animal. Some are thinking about the quality of life is going to be a concern, is it worth keeping an animal alive if all they are going to do is suffer just for the selfishness of the human? So, I think while YES, we who know the animal better have to make the unltimate decision. We just need to make sure we are making that decision out of love and true understanding of our animal companion/family members.

suffer or death , its sad an animal can't talk , and therefor we have 2 shoulder that for them. a lot of people want good for there animals , but when reality hits you with an extreme amount of cost , then sometimes you have no choice , no matter how hard it is . i wish there was this government piggy bank for situations like this, but sadly this does not exist.

It's unfortunate that it's highly likely she was dumped by a breeder.

That's just one side to breeders. There are amazing breeders but there also are bad ones, a good breeder would never dump a dog just because they are different. People are quick to blame all breeders when something like this happens.

I disagree there is plenty dogs in the shelters, that need homes you don’t need to buy them. From breeders !

They certainly are dedicated to making her life as enjoyable and healthy as possible.

Derrick's hard work for helping Lumen has started the ball rolling for others to realize that they can make a HUGE difference in our relationships with our pets. Derrick's ingenuity is going to generate some legendary karma for himself, and all the pets that will benefit from his dedication.

I cried with happiness when she finally got to play in the playground along with her pack❤️

She’s so beautiful , I’m so glad she can play with the other dogs now so she won’t feel left out! Anyone is sick for abandoning her out like that :( but now she’s all better thanks to a better person and surgeries :D

Seeing people so dedicated to those pups wellbeing makes me so happy. I was watching this video and crying happy tears when Lumen finally got the right size of prosthetics and joined the pack at the barn, you can tell this sweet baby was so happy 😚💕

Having had a wheelchair dog ourselves, this makes me cry happy tears.

She is SOOOOOO CUTE🤗 Thank the Lord for caring people that has given her a new & happy life. My brother rescued a doggie in TJ. She turned out to b such a good doggie but she did have health issues which Im sure living on the streets of TJ was part of the reason for her health issues. She did go to Doggie Heaven & will b missed 4ever 💔. Thankfully she got to spend the last 9 mo of her life feeling the Love she deserved. Prayers for this very special Great Dane🙏 Hoping she will have a long & happy life. She is obviously HAPPY😊. GOD BLESS ALL WHO HAVE GIVEN HER SO MUCH CARE & LOVE ❣
