When Max started he beat the youngest ever driver record by almost 2 years, not almost 1 year, according to your list the youngest ever driver at that point was Jaime Alguersuari at 19 years and 125 days compared to Max's 17 years and 166 days. Well, they are human like everybody else. Maybe they were hit by some kind of Mandela effect in which Stroll started his F1 career before Max.
One unique event in f1 that I think should have been mentioned was the 1954 British grand prix - then, as now, there was an extra point on offer for fastest lap- but with mechanical stopwatches, laps were only measured to the nearest whole second. At this race, 7 drivers set a 1:50, meaning 7 drivers each got 1/7 of a point. This also meant that Mike Hawthorn finished the season with 24 and 9/14 points

The race that has (and realistically, will forever have) the current record for least classified finishers is the 1966 Monaco GP which saw just 4 cars make it 90% towards the then still 100 laps of Monaco. Really it makes sense considering that Monaco was 100 laps back then and that this was the first year that had the 90% rule, otherwise this race would've had 6 finishers, in which case I think the record would go to the 20 lap shorter '68 Monaco GP with 5 finishers no matter how you count it (the 6th place person went out on lap 16).

Ya forgot that one time a german driver (whose name I've forgotten) pit started into a race he hadn't qualified for. The race in question was one on the Hockenheimring in 1977 (IIRC), and said driver hadn't qualified to race. He still went out onto the track after the grid starters had passed the pit exit, as normal in a regular pit start, and unbelievably not a single steward noticed the bright yellow car he was driving until about lap five or so when he retired due to an engine failure. That's how he made the only triple of DNQ, DNF and DSQ. He got banned from F1 with that move

I think Verstappen being so successful is why they instituted the rule... other teams may see this and try to fast-track younger drivers with talent in the hopes of achieving the same thing. Also to possibly prevent people who have no legal control over their lives from being pressured by parents or legal guardians into signing contracts they have no say over.
@dinglepringle1380

As for the second half of this comment, you’ve gotta remember that F1 drivers start a career in racing when they’re 4/5/6 years old. By the time they’re 13, they’re professional and have contracts to sign that they have no say over.
@adam346
Жыл бұрын
@@dinglepringle1380 I am unaware of how much junior drivers or f2/3 drivers make in comparison to F1 but I imagine the figures go from 6 to 7-8. Having a parent signing a contract on your behalf where they get the majority of a 7 figure contract is... well, suspect.
@adam346
Жыл бұрын
@Trikk not implying that. I am implying that someone who cannot make legal decisions on their own behalf or enter into a contract on their own behalf have people that may be making decisions that may not be in their best interest. Money is a massive motivator, especially if the parents have sacrificed a lot to get their kid this far... so if, for instance, another Max Verstappen type were to rise through the ranks and get in at 17 again... and then die on track... or just get severely injured... it raises the prospect of legal responsibility of letting a minor take part in a known deadly sport. This way, there are no questions.
@RoyMatzem

Actually is to promote F2/F3 championships, Max didnt need those to prove himself, if that becomes a trend, FIA would lose lot of money, so these rules along licence points, make those categories now mandatory
@adam346
Жыл бұрын
@@RoyMatzem I think they only made being 18 and in the prior categories for two years the mandatory aspect... the license points can be earned by driving in any number of categories and placing well in them... so it is not locking in F2/3. F2 though, does have the most license points at 40 for the top three so it would be the "easiest" to get your license in but not exclusive to it. You can jump from F3 to F1 if you place 2nd two years in a row and ditto with Formula E, Formula Euro and if you place first twice in LMP 2 (World Endurance) two years in a row. If anything, it encourages mixing and matching and encouraging high-placing racers to push ahead. I can see why you would think that with the most points being given by F2 though.

9:15 Lewis went to the final round with a 17point lead. In the race Rosberg had an engine problem, when driving in P2. But imagine if Lewis had the problem, and finished 6th. Losing the title
Setting the exact same time in qualifying would be another mention. That would be nearly impossible to see again, let alone that 3 or more drivers make that.

Nothing "useless" about it at the time, and only recording to the tenth eliminates some of the potential human error.
Of course, we cannot mention weird moments from F1 history without mentioning the 3 way tie for pole position in Jerez 1997. The top three drivers on the grid, Jacques Villeneuve, Michael Schumacher and Heinz Harold Frentzen, all set exactly the same time to three decimal places, with the official time difference showing "+0.000". The order was decided by whichever driver set the time first, which was Villeneuve. Just as remarkable, but overshadowed by the 3 way tie for pole, was the driver closest to that time. At the time, it wouldn't have been too surprising if it was one of the two McLarens of Mika Hakkinen or David Coulthard, possibly one of the young Jordan drivers of Ralf Schumacher or Giancarlo Fisichella, but no. The next closest driver to the rime set by the top 3 was set by Arrows driver, and outgoing world champion, Damon Hill. Martin Brundle put it best: "Who would have expected, after the winter testing here [Jerez] when Damon was 4 or 5 seconds off the pace, that he would be just 1 tenth [of a second] off a pole position?"
You had to bring up the Belgian grand prix…
2005 US gp Bridgestone had insider info that the re-paving of the track had caused damage to indi cars Firestone tires, made adjustments but kept the information from teams running Michelin tires.
And when Lance Stroll debuted, he became the youngest driver ever - a record previously held by Lando Norris.

Which he took from Yuki.
Mick got points today!!!!
I think it should have been included " *becoming* F1 champion while being already dead", 1970
Curious how many of those drivers who have never scored a point have been prior to 2003 or 2010 and how many have been after those changes to the points system.
What about brawn gp winning both championships in their only season in f1? Has that happened before? (Forgive me if it has, my formular 1 history knowledge doesn't extent very far beyond about the mid 90's)
Lewis Hamilton as the only car on the grid at Hungary 2021. That was amazing!
Good to see Mick finally get his points so he's not in the mix of drivers with the "most race starts without points"

Mick watching this video: not any more, not anyyyyy more!
Mistake in the video, how can Verstappen break Lance Stroll's youngest driver record if Stroll wouldn't race for two years?

Typical linear time experiencer comment.
Nobody can stop the Winkel'Rock'
Jerez 1997- Top 3 drivers posted the same qualifying time 1:21.072 (Villeneuve, Schumacher, Frentzen) 1997 season- The two title challengers never shared a podium European GP 1999- All drivers on the podium were in teams owned by past f1 drivers- Herbert (Stewart), Trulli (Prost), Barrichello (Stewart)
1:31 Finally, Mick's off the list
Gonna have to change that race starts with no points for Mick now
Soon you can add Latifi finishing 21st in a 20 man season to this list
About spa 2022, a technicality. Yes it was decided by one lap (in essence). However it’s not fair to the drivers it was only decided after the saftycar. Yes I am aware that’s not how it was said, but not mentioning the tricky qualification runs is a injustice to their efforts. I mean the worst car made it to P2 in that dreadful rainy qualifying

Agreed. That race was a farce but letting George's efforts go unrewarded would have been a crime.
the first race i watched was spa 2021, great time to start watching
In my opinion, Tora Takagi was better than his 32 races without a point suggests.
Checo going from Last to First Place and Winning the Race.

Pretty sure Jenson did this in Canada 2011 as well, but maybe Checo’s the only person to do it in the dry?

Not quite as well before that, John Watson won the 1983 United States Grand Prix West after qualifying 22nd.
finally, 4 points for mick
4:35 Weird to see Bernd Schneider appear on that list, he won the DTM championship five times (the old one in 1995 and the new in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006) so successful touring car drivers might not be successful open wheeler drivers, Pascal Wehrlein also failed and returned to DTM.
I want another giant lizard on the track.
Karthikeyan actually set the lowest finish in F1 history earlier that season in China (a race with only one retirement, giving Karthikeyan a P23 finish) then broke his own record in Valencia.
Benetton was in fact a rebranded (sold) Toleman. So Fabi didn't really move to Benetton.
Wait a damn second, Mazepin got the fastest lap in Belgium 2021? LMAO
What about the one guy who didn't qualify (officially DNS), was disqualified, and then didn't finish?
Yooo, Buenos Aires track lookin hella sus!
How ironic that youtube brought me here after mick got his first points
I'm surprised not to see the Brabham BT46 car in this list, the only car with a 100% win rate in F1 history.
Karthakayan being the only person to finish 24th is honestly the most wild because it feels so unimportant, yet so impressive somehow 😂
1998 British Grand Prix, when Michael Schumacher won the race in the pit lane. Pretty sure that only happened once...

At least unofficially it happened in 2009 Malaysian Grand Prix. Button pitted on the lap which ended up being the last which was counted.
Aguri Suzuki, the only driver whose name sounds like it could be the name of an F1 team.

Funny that you say that, given that he would eventually create his own team in 2006.

Yep, that it worked out that way was just wild. From having a name that sounds like an F1 team name, to having an F1 team.
I'm not sure if somebody mentiones if before me, but last years 1 car standing start in Hungary. Hamilton starts by himself, whilst the rest come into the pits on formation lap to change tyres.
What season had the most number of different engine layouts? I think 1990 must be up there, with 5 - V8, V10, V12, flat-12 (in the Coloni-Subaru) and W12 (in the Life).
4:43 great helmet design
Damn 777 drivers to start a race, that's a cool number to have landed on during making this video
translation: it's been a slow week in the 22 F1 season 🤣
Loving the new transitions in editing 👍
I would say a good honerable mention would be the race (I cannot remember which,) where qualifying was a dead heat for the top three places to a thousandth of a second. Possible to do again, but Highly unlikely.

Jerez 97, the last race of that season, also only 1 point of distance between Villeneuve and Schumacher
1:27 Schumacher is finally not in this list anymore
7:07 Technically Fabi didn't " move " teams per se since Toleman became Benetton at the end of 1985
The next races will show. If Ferrari and red bull have to raise their ride height they will be slower. If they don’t and we see them bouncing then we know they have changed based on the directive too. If they were doing nothing wrong those two teams would not be complaining as they have. It does explain a lot and I appreciate this video being made.

That aged well lol Looks like they were complaining about a rule change mid season after all, despite knowing they conform to them.
3:09 yeah this grand prix is weird, given the track layout is sus
Interesting that WTF1 also posted a video with some similar content around the same time as this one.
6:52 Ahhh, Penthouse magazine sponsoring F1 teams. Don't think we will ever see that happening again.
You could include the time when 3 drivers qualified with the same time at Jerez 1997.
