We have a 2016 MQ Triton travelled 210,000kms used in central New Zealand for farm, snow, mud, school taxi and rural delivery around mountain ranges. Its never let us down only had to replace drivers seat and upgrade bulbs and lightbar fitted to bullbar. Awesome truck for the money. Drove the Ranger noisy and no head room behind the drivers seat for back passengers. Really wanted the Ranger being a Ford fan but brought the Triton and an FGX Falcon with the change.

Great choose mate. The Triton looks the best out of all these utes and performs better than a hilux and economical compared to the Ford Ranger. Hence in my opinion the Triton wins it all. You can make use of every drop of value for the money you pay to buy that.

Totally agree, now I get serviced at Mazda, went to Ford, for a oil 🛢 change and radiator flush, got home about 2 kilometres, decided to check the oil levels, but no oil on the dipstick, then checked out the coolant, less than 10mm in the overflow,,, had no choice went to supercheap for oil, went back to ford and went off my head, they topped up the coolant, but I was right there in the workshop with them, even popped the bonnet and was talking with the mechanic when he was doing it,

My first ute was a Isuzu, did 347 000km then I sold it, did not have any problems with it and it and did not have one breakdown. Then I bough a ranger, gearbox and turbo went on just over 30 000km. Sold the ranger, despite it being a lovely vehicle to drive, I need a vehicle that is reliable. Then I bought a Hilux and drove it for 5 years, but sold it due to its poor handling on gravel roads, I travel a lot on gravel roads. Then a few months ago I bought a new Isuzu and still to this day drive it and I must say, very impressed with the new Isuzu, I need a vehicle that is reliable and a true work horse. For my specific needs, someone who do a lot of long distance travel and also need a vehicle for the farm, the Isuzu meet all my requirements.

I ended up with a Ranger Wildtrak.

The very reason why I don't choose the Nissan Navarra, you've fairly mentioned it. As a practicing agriculturist in the Philippines, I always choose a bakkie that can easily carry 20 sacks of rice or animal feeds, very utilitarian & multipurpose. Right now, I use a 2017 Hilux G 4x4 MT. It's actually doing the job very fairly well. On paved roads, it's 15 to 16 km/L. On rough roads, about 13 km/L. If tray is fully-loaded, about 10 to 11 km/L. So far, I think this bakkie is serving me well as per intended use. It's enough for the job I would say. Another good choice I think will be Isuzu D-Max.

Infotainment system is so outdated. The seats in the rear were uncomfortable due to poor contour design. Engine and gearbox did not belong in this decade. Out of the ones tested, I was most surprised with the Navara's refinement especially with the suspension. 2.5l Engine was smooth too despite being a bit older. Shame the coilovers did not translate well when the tub is loaded though. Ended up with a Bi-Turbo Ranger Wildtrak.

Own a Nissan Navara VL and having owned Toyota's, Land Rover's and Nissan's previously I'm in awe of what my Navara does. I think driving style and size of driver has a big say in what works best for you. But I've been places where Toyota's were left behind bogged to the axles. Landies love to let go when you need them most - especially drive shafts. I would say Nissan must have something right given Mercs colab ... But either way I LOVE my Navara.

2009 Triton here, 245k and going strong, doing a 50mm suspension upgrade to also match the weight of the ARB barwork and winch was probably best money spent apart from the BFG's. Crap seats, very uncomfortable, and that is about it for criticisms (I replaced them with the top model seats, which are merely less crap.). A little more punch down low would be nice too, and I know it is in there. The absolute best thing is the Super Select system (developed for the Dakar Rally Raids to truly dominating effect for Mitsubishi and their Pajeros). The addition of an all-wheel drive setting, 50-50 split front to rear just like a Subaru, in between two wheel and locked-centre-diff high range and low-range 4WD, is a real bonus and a primary safety feature.. It gives instant access (up to 100kph) to all-paw traction. Wet urban roads where an unladen ute will spin, all-paw makes it sweet. Dirt roads that go forever, all-paw positively drives you around corners and stops the unladen rear having slides. Looooooong stretches of outback service tracks, all-paw steering and grip is a definite primary safety feature. None of the other contenders have this feature apart from the VW, which might be a great horse-float tow rig with a grunty motor but isn't a proper 4WD - no low range, so it doesn't count really. I couldn't be happier (apart from the damn seats) with my Triton. Seriously. If this one got squashed I'd buy another one tomorrow - but only with the Super Select system. It Rocks.

However (and I mean no disrespect) just like their trucks they seem underdone and rough. And no disrespect again but when people say their bulletproof when their engines (in the past) produce less torque and HP is similar to the old Land Cruisers lasting forever - Old Cruisers have big capacity and and not much power or torque so they lasted forever - admittedly the engines had a superior lubrication system than competitors at the time.

alexaescht yeah which has no bearing on anything mechanical. It’s still the same as the 2011 version side for the engine and dash upgrade. The rest have all had tweaks made.

very valid point, it set the bench mark and almost 10yrs later still holds the best ride and refinement

Either the Triton or the musso should be first. Idk why it's so hard to see it. Just as good as the leaders but priced alot lower.

I got a Musso (smaller tray version). I went for the manual because I need it to stay awake :) I paid less than 30K drive away. Nice interior, very quite and no engine vibration, nice to drive and it carries my wood working timber home when I need it. 7 years unlimited k's warranty, 7 years roadside assist and 7 years capped price service. Only negative is that the engine is gutless with the manual trans. It goes a lot better with the auto.

Got an Amarok twin turbo V4 for $39,000 plus roof racks and a few other add-ons and am very impressed with it - very comfortable and definitely drives like a car (wouldn’t mind the V6 of course) but agree with the judges top 3 for 2019. Somehow would definitely rather a V6 Amarok that a Triton though. One thing I would say is that I studied and test drove most before purchasing and reckon that all are awesome utes. Sometimes critics make a big deal out of insignificant things. It’s really what suits you and how much you want to spend. Colorado could have rated higher. Hard to beat the Rivian!

Don’t have ram 1500 because it’s 80k when Volkswagen And the Mercedes-Benz utes are both around 80k?

Would have been interesting if you guys had the Great wall steed and the mahindra for shits n giggles. The musso doesn't look half bad but I'll stick with my Hilux

@@trav33333 and shit reliability and them leaving the Australian market and all RHD markets, and also now only offering 5 years of after sales support instead of the 10 years they originally promised. Also their is high oil consumption issues.

Alex Junior That would be cool to see, but they would need to put the I6 diesel as an option otherwise it’ll just be another Merc/Nissan result. BMW have plenty of their own 4 and 6 diesels though
