Sometimes, it’s hard not to think that “wardrobe improvement” doesn’t include shopping for a new piece to add to your closet. But, you may not always have the budget, the time, or even the option of shopping, and there are many other ways to improve your wardrobe without spending a lot of money.
11 things you can do from home to improve your wardrobe almost immediately.
0:00 Improve your wardrobe strategically
00:36 1. Figure out your own personal style “values”
Have you ever made a purchase that you regretted? Consider why that happened, and how you’re going to avoid it in the future to reduce waste and frustration with your closet.
04:34 2. Get more use out of what you already own by making new combinations
Challenge yourself to create new outfits. Start with pieces you like but don’t wear very often but still like, and consider why. Then, start making new outfit combinations.
05:40 3. Identify your own wardrobe Achilles heel & make a plan to tackle it.
Everyone has weaknesses with regards to their wardrobe. My weakness is that I like wearing what’s on top of the pile. Also, my wardrobe is spread out all over my house and studio, so I don’t always know where everything is in my wardrobe. While our closet renovation is now on hold, I know that I can make more of an effort to take more time and not just grab the thing that’s available to me right now.
06:37 4. Hand wash your wool & cashmere sweaters
Hand washing isn’t necessary for wool & cashmere. However, it is one of the most gentle options for your investment pieces.
07:22 5. Properly rotate & store your off-season clothes
We all know we should store our clothes, we just don’t make time for it. Even if you don’t have the perfect storage solutions, it’s still worth putting your winter clothes in the back of the closet when you don’t need them.
08:15 6. Use a clothes brush to brush off your heavy woolens & suit jackets
Take the time to use a clothes brush to thoroughly go over your overcoats, suits, and jackets. This tool is one of the most important you can have to maintain your heavy and structured garments, because unlike.
09:30 7. Make small clothing repairs yourself
We all have a travel sewing kit gathering dust somewhere. So now is the time to put all your clothes to use by fixing the little holes and loose buttons on your shirts, jackets, and pants.
10:12 8. Iron all your shirts
Some people find it very soothing! For those of us who put off this task but still love a crisp, freshly ironed shirt, then we suggest you get out your ironing board.
11:05 9. Sort out clothes that need alterations and list the changes you eventually want to make
We inevitably all have some clothing in our closets that need alterations. When you have some time to dedicate to your wardrobe, go through and finally separate out all the things that need repairs you can’t make and alterations.
12:05 10. Polish your shoe collection
Our friend Preston Soto at the Elegant Oxford has some excellent tutorials on shoe polishing. So we suggest you use some of your home time to go down the rabbit hole of shoe care. Good shoes are expensive, so learning how to polish them properly is a skill worth learning!
12:23 Identify what tools you need to better maintain your wardrobe
It’s worth knowing what you need to keep your wardrobe in the best shape possible.

I am reorganizing my wardrobe *at the moment*, I've heard of KZread channels that do polls to find out what their viewers want but this is just a whole new level of channel dedication. I believe I speak for most of us fans when I say that the content of The Gentleman's Gazette is a medium against which us men can turn to when we're confused with what belt to choose or even what to wear to a funeral and one that most channels should look up to in terms of production quality, scripting and general knowledge in their field. Thank you. I have something called Aspbergers Syndrome which means that I typically find most activities involving the organization or social skills to be of greater difficulty than most individuals. Through content you've produced like 'How to accept a compliment like a gentleman', your guides on 'is it worth it' and a multitude of other items I have been able to upgrade my style and shed that awkward and unprepared personality I used to have. I do indeed hope you are having a delightful lockdown period and a great day! -Carl

Before I found this channel I was almost ready to give up on menswear since in the mainstream it seems to be all t shirts and low rise jeans with nothing interesting. I was already interested in vintage and classic styles, so anytime I see a new video it’s very exciting. I recently bought a pair of grey trousers with black pinstripes from the 1930s (my first vintage item!) that I hope to find a way to style with help from your channel :)

I need a bedroom sized walk-in closet. I didn't realize how much my wardrobe has grown in such a relatively short time span, thanks to Gentleman's gazette and other similar channels. I think I may be at the point of considering donating some of my less used garments and shoes as I really don't have enough space for them all. I have a combination of purchased new, used and inherited garments and footwear that have brought me much satisfaction and have entirely changed my personal dress style and my perception of fashion in a positive way. Thank You Sven for your positive influence.

Putting my off-season clothes away has been a game-changer for me. Can't say I agree with you on ironing. I hate it and life is too short to be ironing loads of shirts and trousers. I tend to iron one or two the night before I think I'm going to wear them. I think I would lose the will to live if I had to do them all. I've always thought that if the circumstances were right I would pay someone to do our ironing!

Just recently I separated clothes I never wear. It turns out there were more clothes I don't wear than I do wear. I need to go through my wardrobe like you said and make a list on why I do and don't wear the things in my wardrobe. GENIUS! So simple and obvious, but something I never thought to do. I just moved apartment and still have to put my clothing away, so while I organize them I will be doing following these steps! Thank you

If you buy something pricy that you think will be a great addition, like an overcoat, a MTM/Bespoke suit, or that 150$ tie that seemed too expensive, write down your experience, how you felt that day or that moment. Also write the kind of outfits you believe the items will fit nicely with.

I honestly think you need a massive wardrobe clear out. Get rid of a lot of those ostentatious vintage coats, waistcoats and v-neck jumpers. These are some of your stylistic weaknesses in my opinion. The cool, simple look you have at 4:56 is what you should be looking for. It makes you look 10 years younger, 10 times fresher and better. If you used this as a template for your wardrobe going forward, you would be doing yourself a huge favour.

This video cannot help me. To improve my wardrobe I should do many more things than just 11.

Please improve your content, your earlier videos were more useful and meaningful, nowadays it has become repetitive and somewhat dragging a topic.
