Board Game Madness 2024 is our tournament to pick the top board games from my collection. In this video, two sci-fi deckbuilding games go head to head: the aging but perennial Star Realms vs the new deckbuilder on the block: Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game. Which of these deckbuilding card games will move on?

With the 3 expansion sets and all the variant packs. And being able to play single player. Star realms all day. So many ways to play plus its on pc phone etc. You buy one digital version unlocks all digital version. So yea star realms for verianty respect for the customer and many ways you can play.

Star Wars Unlimited is my favourite TCG of all time now and it's just set 1!! Loving it and have a solid local community already.

Another one that should be included: Shards of Infinity. In my mind it fixes Star realms, making it at about the same level as the Star Wars Deckbuilding game

I did play Shards of Infinity years ago (before expansions) and it didn't do much for me

@@RockManorGames Interesting. I find the extra dynamics of mercenaries and the mastery to elevate it much higher than Star Realms.

The only thing I remember years later is having the character with the dial. I never owned it and only played it once. Maybe I should take another look.

Star realms was fun but it has become too bloated in recent years.

I stopped after colony wars
As to theme, I prefer Star Realms, since I consider Star Wars, Star Trek, and Lovecraft to be significantly oversaturated in the market. I have and have played both, and find that the Star Wars game is prone to stagnation until one side or the other gets a lucky vs. unlucky draw. Star Realms is the better game for me, and it's not particularly close.
