I haven't read IKIGAI yet, but I've read your other book SHINRIN YOKU and I think it's brilliant. Congratulations to you, Mr Garcia and the co-author Francesc Miralles.

Thank you so much! I put a lot of effort in researching the science of SHINRIN YOKU. I'm glad you liked it :)@@crysdili
Absolutely loved the interview! Mr. Taira is so humble and it's very interesting to see their way of life. I wrote the secrets down so I could remember them better: 1. Low sodium intake 2. DNA 3. Consume a lot of shikuwasa 4. Treasures of the sea 5. Eating quality pork 6. Living stress free 7. The sea breeze 8. Active lifestyle 9. Having an ikigai 10. Equal relationship 11. Improving dietary habits I think the combination of having fresh air from the sea, fresh local products and a sense of purpose or loving life definitely are the tree main components to a long life. I wish you all a nice day and hopefully we get another video soon ^^
That man is old, yet he has the energy that young people can only dream of. Very nice video!
I'm Brazilian, but my father's family comes from Okinawa. My grandpa just turned 86, he loves living close to the sea and Brazil's climate is mostly hot throughout the year. His diet is very different from Brazilian people, even though he has been here for so many years. But I never paid to much attention to that, now coming to think of it, I'll try my best to keep similar habits 😅
Thanks Aki,im really enjoying an insight into Japan as well from your vids! I want to visit. My Nan is 96 ,lives independently, shes English. Im not sure what contribute to her longevity ,she had breast cancer in her seventies, and had alot of stress in her life including 2 children dying. She eats quite healthy ,cooks for herself ,little meat, more fish. And she had alot of honey. I think her positive attitude helps, she never complains. About six years ago she got a little cat, this definitely gives her a purpose ..they love each other dearly, and it's a good feeling to care for 'something 'even if its just plants.
ビタミン・ミネラル・カルシウムなどの摂取量が豊富で、温暖で、体をよく動かすのが、長生きの素ですが、何より、皆さん、明るく朗らかなのが、一番の秘訣なんでしょうね〜🤗
My earliest known ancestor is a Japanese Lady in the year 800. Thr women in my family live into their late 90s. I hope that I can also live to a good age and be healthy and vibrant like him.
The salt argument is interesting because in general japanese people are known to consume a lot of salt (through soy sauce, seaweed, pickled vegetables etc).
Thanks Aki. Very wise. I 'm trying to continue to learn japanese language and wisdom.
enjoyed this video very much, thankyou.
Thank you for your inspiring videos. Greetings from the Czech Republic (heart of Europe)
Yes, his warm heart lifts and gives warmth to us all. ❤ Thank you!
Beautiful video of the simple joys of life.
Thank you! could you show more of Okinawa? there aren't many videos on the internet
Heyyy thanks for promoting this! I wish I could have met you. I am one of the few Okinawa longevity experts here in Okinawa, Japan and my whole life and company is about Okinawan longevity, teaching it, and promoting it! There are so many reasons for longevity and they all work in harmony. BUT actually, there are 2 TOP reasons for Okinawan longevity that no one realizes (hint: it is not food) 😁
Thank you for mentioned the book on previous video. I placed a hold on book "IKIGAI" from the library; on waiting list at least 2 months...can't wait to read it.... best wishes from Canada!!!
This is a fantastic video. Mr Taira is very humble and have a good understanding that diet plays an important roll in Longevity. You too are amazing. Love all your videos. x
Studies show that people are happier living near the ocean. When i moved 1500 mi inland I didn't realize how much I'd miss it. 50 years later I'm moving back near the ocean. It's never too late to change one's life.
You're literally the only person I can watch over and over again without getting bored or tired! you inspire me sm w your content ❤️
Good video. I loved Okinawa when I lived there. So much culture and so much to do or see. This video is outstanding.
mr nara is pure energy! love it. thank you samurai!!!!!! 🫶🏽
You are so great man! Awesome!!!
Samurai Matcha also seems to have a pure and cheerful heart and an active life.. I suppose we all will hopefully grow older than most!
I'm actually reading the book you put in the thumbnail!
Amazing video love from India
Love this kind of content!
thank you for the video Yaki san! My Korean grandmother-in-law says kimchi and fermented foods (that usually are really salty) make her live longer hahaha. The great salt debate!
Great video! Low stress, equality, unprocessed food, natural exercise and enjoying a simple lifestyle are key. I don’t think a sense of community was mentioned specifically, this must play a huge role as well. ❤
The main reason of his long life is to be optimist with a great sense of humour! Thanks a lot for video ! Love your country !
Nice🎉 Like😊 From thailand🇹🇭👍😁
Thank you Aki, I enjoyed this interesting video. I have been interested in longevity for a long time and incorporating different aspects into my own life, bit by bit. Please could you make a video about Sumi-e art? I find it very beautiful, so much so , collecting books about it has become very addictive. Eye candy!
Very nice information
Great video Aki! Side note - love your hat - where'd you get it?
I love the content. the transition from #1 to #2 sounds like patapons from their PSP games haha :) definitely less salt and a warm climate would help my Canadian self :)
love okinawa
It is likely that salt intake does not actually matter that much, as long as it is not totally unreasonable, and the diet itself is healthy. You naturally crave for more or less salt. Western diets tends to have more salt in processed meat, chips and such, which are not healthy, then it has been concluded that salt is the unhealthy thing. Processed unhealthy food also tends to have less spices and herbs, then you need to add more salt in order to make it taste good.
Low sodium 😭 I crave salt so much! But I think that might have something to do with my low blood pressure, and side-effects from my epilepsy medications.
This video is a masterpiece.
This was fun to watch. The women's reactions were fun too. I think having no stress and being active are huge factors in long life!!! Japanese food = good. American food = bad. I do have a lot of my relatives who lived to 90!! I am hoping the same for myself.
Thank you for the details . Can you tell , about Stress managing from Japanese culture . It's really helpful .
MY favorite habit is "having genes from Okinawa". Just kidding. I really appreciate and love your content!
Nice to know 🎉
Very interesting!❤ Thank you for this. And shikuwasa looks like Philippine lemon (we call it calamansi). I hope the latter is a close alternative. 😊
Hi, you are a huge inspiration! Keep it up! Another topic, I am thinking about buying a Gokumin Mattress. Do you still have yours? Are you happy with it and would you recommend it? Are the cover removable so I can wash it in a washingmachine? I love the simplicity with it :) But its a long way to ship from Japan to Sweden, so I want to be absolutely sure about it :) Take care!
❤❤❤
健康で長生きしたいね!!!
this book changed my life
Arigatō ✌ Free Japan, Okinawa 🇯🇵👍
好食物, 好水, 好空氣, 無壓力。 粗食淡飯!
Japan just lost against Sweden for the women’s fifa. I was hoping Japan would win World Cup this year 😢 I felt sad about it than saw your vid was posted! It made me happy knowing the girls are going home to their beautiful country & culture. Completely irrelevant to the vid but love u Aki!
Great video! I live in Okinawa and you can see the difference in the younger generation. I doubt Okinawa will be a "blue zone" for much longer.
what??? how?!?!?! i remember when you had 40k subs!
In Hawaii it’s called calamansi. (The little citrus.)
Hi great job, thank you for it. I would like to know how many tea matcha do you drink in a day. Thsnk you for the reply.
It is said that they ate a lot of purple sweet potato in the blue zone study, but no mention of it in this video
Japan is too good

This wise man is right, the yankee food is not good at all! 🍔🍟🍕🌭🔜💀
💙💓💙
good video! sadly the introduction of fast food indeed affected longevity!
Where are you now?
❤🎉😂
This gentleman cites low salt as a factor, and then also eating salted pork…?
How old is he?
I felt sorry for the fish and pigs that lost their lives. 🙏😥
How old is Mr Taira?😮
You are what you eat.
very interesting looks like they created a local communism in Ogimi.
first he says low salt, than he says they used salt to preserve the meat. it's contradictory information.

At the end 9:37 he also says now they believe more salt is better due to Nagano taking the first spot. It is likely that salt intake does not actually matter that much, as long as it is reasonable, and the diet itself is healthy. Western diets tends to have more salt in processed meat, chips and such, which are not healthy, then it has been concluded that salt is the unhealthy thing.
