It's finally happened! I've actually read a book before you! I havent read any more of his to compare it to, but I loved The Southern Book Club's guide to slaying vampires. Like you suggested, i just loved the characters.

I just finished reading Fragile Animals and I cannot stop thinking about it! I've been recommending it to anyone who will listen, so I can't wait to hear your thoughts! I have also loved every Grady Hendrix book I've read (southern book club being my fav). it sounds like you've got a wonderful reading month coming up 😍 I've added a bunch of these to my tbr so looks like I've got a pretty solid month to look forward to as well! thanks again for all your work and all your amazing videos. I trust your recommendations more than most :)

Willow- I’ve never been a real sci-fi reader, yet because of your Scalzi video I read ‘The Kaiju Preservation Society’ this past week and absolutely loved it 5⭐️. I’ve found the type of sci-fi books that I really enjoy. Thank you 🩷

A bit of advice with Nine Fox Gambit: keep reading! Don't try to understand the matematical system at first glance. It's a pattern, and you need to see it first. I really love these books!

I pre-ordered Service Model and I'm so excited for it! I'm actually reading Cage Of Souls right now (among other things).

Fingers crossed my American library accepts my request for them to buy a copy of Fragile Animals! It sounds amazing.

I just started reading Lost in the Garden later in the day today and already on page 100.. I was immediately hooked.. so good!! Only stopped reading because I need to go to bed.. this is my kind of book 😄

@@AnaClaudiaBertiniCiencia I'm on page 200 now about halfway through the book and I wouldn't say it's scary.. more eerie and unsettling.. like something is off but you're not sure what. I'd say give a shot.. maybe check out from the library? you can always stop reading if you want. 😊

I've only read The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix (Though I have How to sell a haunted house and my best friends exorcism to) and LOVED it! I read along on kindle while listening to the audio book on Hoopla and the audio book was amazing. Happy reading!

I really enjoyed the ‘ River of Teeth’ books by Sarah Gailey.

I finally have to get to reading "Just like home" I got it sometime ago after Jesse on youtube spoke about it. Now you, it has to be good.

Tchaikovsky's book reminds me of an old Polish tv play I saw. I can't find it right now, it might be gone from youtube, I don't remember the exact title. It was about an android who sends himself to a human in serchnof a new master as the old one died recently. The twist is he did murdered his old owner and eventually poisons the new one as he doesn't meets his expectations of a perfect master, than moves on to a new unexpected human. In fairness to the android the guy was a bit of a asshole.

​@@WillowTalksBooksIt was, as a sf fan I really liked the idea. I think it was from early 60ties or even 50ties, in black and white with cheap decorations but it was magical. Now we have bigger means but apart for independent productions on youtube we are not able to do good sf or fantasy. The first attempt on the Witcher was laughable, and everybody god excited for Cracow monsters on Netflix until we started watching.

Haven't read all the Grady Hendrix books, but I've read the one on your list. Also totally loved Horrorstör and We Sold Our Souls. I love how excited you get talking about books. From one of your previous videos, I put The Leviathan on my tbr, and also started watching Bly on Netflix at your recommendation. Several more turns of the screw, love it! Not usually a scifi fan, but the Tchaikovsky novel sounded great. As always, thanks for the recommendation! P.S. Love a book/movie combo. It feels natural to me to talk about stories and authors no matter the format. Btw, I love Buffy. Saw them all back-to-back on a cable channel one summer, what a great experience! Oh! And thanks to you, I looked up Sarah Gailey on my library's website and found an e-comic book series called Eat the Rich. And another series called Know Your Station, which based on the blurb could be called Kill the 1 Percent. More tbr! 😃

Please read Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka. It’s exceptionally well-written and has such a profound emotional depth and unique focus on the women’s perspective rather than the killer.

Excellent! And I’m so excited that you are reading my favorite Grady Hendrix book! (We Sold Our Souls is a very close second.) I identified so heavily with the protagonist in Southern Book Club that in a scene in which the despicable men in her life are gaslighting her, I got so angry that I had to put the book down and walk it off!

Looking forward to your reviews on these books. The only one I've read from this list is "The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires". And I loved it! I recommended it to my husband to read, and he loved it, as well. I'm curious to see what you think of it after you're done.

That's a great list! :D June is my Roman month, so I'm reading Seneca and other related stories. I've got two German books: "Ich, Hannibal" (I, Hannibal) from Judith Vogt. In this book Hannibal is murdered and a conwoman is replacing him. And "Uns bleibt nur die Flucht" (Our only option is to flee) from T. T. Dives. This book is a Love Story in the Roman Empire.

Great TBR, I'll be waiting for the reviews✨ A note on the pronunciation of "Jimenez", the 'J' sounds more like an 'H' in words like 'Hey' or 'Hiss' Don't know the spelling of the phonetic alphabet. It's not a rude correction, pronunciation is a tricky thing on names or words not native to our language, just thought it was worth mentioning

Oh of course, you’re right. I’m not a Spanish speaker but I always try to get my pronunciations right. This time I mixed up the rule for J in Spanish with languages that pronounce the letter like Y. My mistake 😅

Let's see: I think I have kind of a low day today. Why not turn it into "A Perfect Day (to be Alone)" by buying a book😁. That one seems to have Yoshimoto vibes...:)

And here we go again, a lot of book recommendations I would love to read but that are not translated into my mother language. 🙃 (yes, I can read in English, but it takes me considerably more time) Oh, Gosh…

I will say about the Grady Hendrix book is he's very much channeling a place and time, and the women are very beholden to the patriarchy. It's an interesting exploration of racism and sexism. My favorite/funniest (but still very gory and creepy) scene is an example of how men will practice misogyny until the very last moment, and then some.

I read The Watchers in April and the film trailer doesn't do it justice, so I don't want to watch the adaptation. I also read The Creeper. Not quite so good as The Watchers, even though it's ok as a thriller.

I wanted to love the southern bookclubs guide but it was just so painfully written by a cis white man to me😭 it felt like one of those books that’s trying to say something and subvert stereotypes but doesn’t say anything other than “misogyny = bad!” The characters felt like basic archetypes and nothing beyond that for me :-( I’m glad people enjoy it though! It just didn’t do it for me. I’m excited to hear your thoughts once you finish it!
