11 More Layers, More Printmaking

This is my early journey into printing on a large gel plate (16x20). I've been gel printing for many years but never this large, until I went through a hard season losing my husband to brain injuries. I came across Fulton Sim at @artwhisperer88 who inspires many of us with his retro minimalist printmaking sometimes inspired from other modern art masters.
I'm inspired by Fulton, but going my own way of exploration with printmaking in an effort not to copy him. I hope I inspire you in some small way, too. If I can do this creative life, so can you. Remember, Dreams Never Die.

I'm really enjoying the variety of marks in your prints, particularly the variety of masks you use. The more linear ones have alerted me to new possibilities. As with ArtWhisperer88, I often feel you cover over some of your best results. While all of these prints are quite nice, to my eye, the white, buff, and ochre print, with a few black marks (43:00 in summary section) is the best of those you made in this episode. Lovely, subtle, and yet quite rich in varied tints and marks. But in any case, I appreciate your sharing your process, techniques, and all your lovely work!

@@KateWordArtat about 39 min..when you lay in the two blue horizontal stripes…. If you had of let that layer dry completely..… then roll a full wet layer (maybe the same as that top Pale colour)… over the whole plate..then lay paper over this “wet” layer…..press down well…now let it sit overnight… When it is completely dry you will be able to pull up everything off the plate …it will be spotlessly clean. I try to have paper ready and utilize the window of open time wisely. Have everything at the ready & work quickly. I believe my paper selection contributes to successful transfers also. Why do you let them sit for 5 minutes?

Letting the paper sit allows the paper to absorb the paint. Of course, it depends on the fiber content of the paper and the fluidity of the paint. Especially, wait if you're using a 2nd application to pick up a ghost print. Thanks for the question. Peace 🌿

I also thinks it’s awesome at 7:20 , just not as much. Besides at 7:20 it’s misregistered.

Thanks again, Minna. These early misregistrations will be mounted to cradle wood panels, and those edges will be cut off. I'm hoping my new system will help guard against that. 🌿

@@KateWordArtjust a suggestion, if you roll your paint on first then put your stencils on top… pull your print and then remove your stencils… then you can pull another print.. much fun!
