FLEXIBILITY is so key. With a big group, it's best to let some sub-groups go and do things that not everyone wants to do. And then plan low key things that EVERYONE can do as well so that you feel some togetherness. Even if it's a campfire at the end of the day!

Love the discussion around skip-gen trips and grandparents. I'm planning our first multigenerational trip right now with my family of five and my parents and want to make sure it's enjoyable for everyone! I think one additional *very* important thing to discuss on a multigenerational trip where young children are involved is discussing rather than assuming any expectations regarding childcare help. Since my wife and I are paying for the whole trip, we felt comfortable explicitly telling my parents that we will expect that they will help us out with the kids when needed so that it can be *something* of a vacation for us as well. Maybe if we weren't paying with it we wouldn't have that expectation. Regardless, better to talk about beforehand than experience a lot of frustration afterward!

But sometimes you get to see a city that is less crowded because the locals stay inside that day. I saw more of Zurich because it snowed while I was there. There were fewer people on the streets and on the trams/trains.

I would like to add that it is important to allow some travelers to arrive and/or leave earlier. My friends and I went to Vegas before the pandemic and some people arrived earlier just to get everything in order before the rest arrived. The different travel days can sometimes allow for better airfare deals for those who may not have a ton of extra cash for the big trip.

Really fun video. Y’all genuinely work well together. Turkey hunting trip to NC anecdote made me smile. Most hunters never land a bird. It’s quite difficult. 🦃👍 🤔 @15:30 “It’s NOT all for one, it’s one for all.” 😐 Oh, Prof. Wolters. Dumas is rolling in his grave. It’s actually “All for one AND one for all.” (AND!) The group is essential to the individual and the individual is essential to the group. 😆

Speaking of flexibility, I found out yesterday that the observation decks in New York are so much under capacity that it's no longer necessary to book ahead of time. That certainly makes it easier because you don't have to guess when a clear day is going to be three weeks from now

That's great that you'll be able to have a little flexibility with that! Never fun to book a time slot that gets ruined by weather!

Love this! I would say we did pretty good with 3 family’s going to Italy and all staying in the same air B&B. Just a note on this, let family know that we are doing this so I will need to shower about this time. We where getting reading to go out and one of the friends that wasn’t going out decided to get in the shower just before a friend that was going out and the other shower/bathroom was being used, it was a bit frustrating. We ended up not being able to get dinner before the show. We ended up going out after. We made it work.

Yes great point! This is especially true if you’re staying at a place where you’re all on one hot water heater in case multiple people can’t shower all at once! Thanks Roxanne! 😀

I am usually the leader in terms of planning, but I was just on a trip earlier last month where another person "took the lead". I had to bite my tongue at certain points when we were told at certain museums or landmarks that reservations were needed. smh. I might do some secret planning next time when plan A falls through.
