@@sandwich2473 Yeah, like how Shell is advertising that you can make your fuel emmisions free with just 1ct per liter (at least they did that here in NL). If it is that cheap to do it, why not just do it themselves? There is something rather cute and sweet about all of this, but it's also deeply tragic. Sitting there chewing our homegrown carrot, because tomatoes are too carbon heavy, in an ice cold house, because the heating's bad for the environment, weeing before we get on our bicycle to save all the wear and tear on those synthetic rubber tires which are industrially manufactured, and non-biodegradable, drinking that wee to save up on wasting water. Meanwhile Elon Musk is launching cars into space, while drinking whaleblood and pandamarrow cocktails on a hyperyacht that burns enough fuel to power a minor city. It's nice that we try, but it's still mostly dripping water on to the surface of the sun to cool it down.

It's not a good comparison to compare a passenger car with a commercial plane.

L0LyourFACE I didn’t disagree, but if everyone went vegan the planet would be “trashed” at a significantly slower rate, perhaps enough to allow us to find a sustainable method of farming for such a large population. You are treating the two as if they are the same-they are not even remotely such. If we want to use a meat metaphor, think of meat consumption as the dairy and beef industries, while veganism is the poultry industry. Is either sustainable? No. However, the beef and dairy industry will destroy forests DECADES before the poultry industry will start having serious impactful damage. You can’t act as if the two are equally as bad when the truth is so far from it.

this video is extremely misleading... the tomato bit is complete BS based on no actual robust data. Vegan diet reduces emissions by 800kg per year and is one of the most effective methods of reducing carbon emissions for individuals. Furthermore, the only thing that can actually have an impact on Co2 emissions is collective political action such as carbon taxes, talking only about personal responsability is ridiculous and it's exactly want big Co2 emitting companies want us to do.

Because it takes less energy per person (as the work is shared). Thus you don’t need to eat as much to get the energy needed for the trip. Eating less is obviously better for the environment. In terms of land usage, electric bikes are actually the most efficient mode of transport (including cars, normal bikes, walking etc) as it requires the least land to generate the clean energy

One more carbon saving idea. When you're going on a long journey do not fill your car tank up. Fluid is ever I make your car less economical put in what you need to get there then put in when you what you need to get to your destination. Little changes...for now
What was the point in going to the plastic free shop if the goal is to be carbon neutral? Paper is far from carbon neutral. The production of paper requires nearly quadruple the carbon of producing plastic. Plastic itself is nearly triple the carbon of paper, but it's lighter and durable. Even recycling paper uses nearly double the carbon of recycling plastic. Then there is the bit about having to constantly destroy habitats for the trees. So the claim that her carbon footprint was reduced after a visit to the shop is unlikely. Plastic is vastly superior to paper in every way, except one, disposability. Plastic is harder to recycle due to our recycling collection methods being shit. It's also more harmful to wildlife when they digest it, which is likely to happen because plastic is durable and can't biodegrade, it will photodegrade, which is estimated to take 1000 years to do so. We should be re-using our plastics and improving recycling methods for when that's not possible, if we want to reduce carbon output and protect wildlife.

One big problem is that these "experts" live in their fundamentalist bubble... Ffs why say a tandem bike is better than two single bikes? Most of the options given here really are presented in such a cumbersome and holier-than-thou way. Let's leave the passive aggressive expert be, and talk about this calmy. You can already make a great difference by working towards these accessible rules: - eat vegetarian most of the time; - buy local and seasonal produce as much as possible; - avoid buying throwaway electronics or clothes; - use public transport or car pooling, if these options are accessible in your area; - avoid going on holiday using airplanes more than once a year; - become politically informed, vote responsibly; - learn to speak about the environment with a hopeful and loving attitude, don't be a jerk. There. Think about that for a bit, try to implement these rules - over time. Maybe tell your friends, as you get more invested in this topic. This should make a big difference, without stressing you out.

Relatively speaking, veganism impacts the environment less than consuming a pound of meat a week, so even though it has environmental impact it’s less compared to the alternative.
