(1080 HD) Herschel Walker Career NFL Highlights

Ойын-сауық

Herschel Walker was one of the best players in the history of college football, probably the best player in the USFL's history. Yet his NFL career was a bizarre one.
Big, fast, physical and explosive, Walker was built like any traditional I-form tailback but played a lot of his NFL career as a sort of oversized gadget player, his best seasons were when he caught a lot of balls and players all over the field.
But it was a remarkable one, and one that is unfortunately undocumented on KZread. All rights go to the NFL.

    Actually he was the most utilized, they should of solely use him at RB he would of had more rushing yards and TD's instead of tiring him out on kick ret, punt ret & WR.. He was definitely underrated 💯

    After he left cowboys Minnesota famously (after giving up all those picks for him) didn't give the ball to him 25 times+ a game like you need to with a back like him and that is total touches with Minnesota. Infact he only had 1 season where he got over 20 rushes a game that was his best season. To give the above commenter credit Dallas did throw to him a good bit averaged 5 receptions a game in 2 seasons with them. But his best years in Dallas were with him only getting 2 and 3 receptions a game and over 20 rushing attempts. The problem herschel had in Dallas is he was literally all the had.

    Where are his two blocks on the kickoff return for a touchdown against the Redskins? He was on the Giants at the time. He made the first block, then raced past everyone on both teams (including the kick returner) to make the last block. Absolutely amazing.

    9:32 on the side line, defenders all around him, and instead of going out of bounds he puts a hit on the guy trying to tackle him and gets a few more yards. The extra yards are not important, but it sets the tone. You don't see that anymore. Most players go out of bounds, and I think that's what I like most about Herschel Walker in these highlights, he finishes his runs and delivers hits to the defense. Great hands too. I just became interested in his NFL career after learning he made the olympic team for track in 1980, in the 90s made the olympic team for bobsled with no experience, and at close to 50 won 2 mma fights in a major promotion. He's a candidate for the greatest athlete in human history. I read he's currently ranked 12th in the NFL in all purposes hards with over 18,000 over a 11 seasons. Imagine he didn't spend 3 seasons in the USFL, and went to the NFL right away, he'd probably have the most all purpose yards for a running back in NFL history.

    He also has the single season pro football rushing record, with 2,400+ yards his last season in the NFL. People say his RB career was disappointing but they don't take into account he was already 25 by the time he hit the NFL. He had 3 great seasons in the USFL, and most RB's are on the downslide by the time they are 27 or 28. It's actually very amazing how long Herschel was productive if you look at the massive numbers of carries he had, going all the way back to college where Dooley abused him, and his physical running style.

    I guess his odd pro career is why I never paid as close attention to it, but he was a really good pass-catcher. His best years were just before my time. I started watching football closely in the mid-90s. I know his college career inside-and-out. It's funny, I'm a sport addict, and I usually know almost everything about a guy of Walker's stature, but for some reason, I'd had no clue that he was that impactful in the pass-game. I guess I had a preconceived notion of the type of player he was. I've heard Walker talked about probably 100 times throughout my life, but I've never once heard someone talk about his pass-catching ability. 1986- 76recs for 837yards, 2TDs, 11.0 YPR 1987- 60recs for 715yards, 1 TD, 11.9 YPR 1988- 53recs for 505yards, 2 TDs, 9.5 YPR 1989- 40recs for 423yards, 2 TDs, 10.6 YPR 1990- 35recs for 315yards, 4 TDs, 9.0 YPR 1991- 33recs for 204yards, 0 TDs, 6.2 YPR 1992- 38recs for 278yards, 2 TDs, 7.3 YPR 1993- 75recs for 610 yards, 3 TDs, 8.1 YPR 1994- 50recs for 500 yards, 2 TDs, 10.0 YPR 1995- 31recs for 234yards, 1 TD, 7.5 YPR 1996- 7recs for 89yards, 0 TDs, 12.7 YPR 1997- 14recs for 149yards, 2 TDs, 10.6 YPR Career- 512recs for 4,859yards, 21TDs, 9.5 YPR

    This guy could do so much. He went up and got the ball like a receiver, down the field. He could get a head of steam and run away from people. He could run with power. The Vikings were amazingly dumb to trade so much for him, then not use him properly. He had 4 great years still in him. Tremendous player.

  • @2Thes22
    @2Thes22 Жыл бұрын

    If Cowboys hadn’t made the trade they still would have had Aikman, Irvin and Walker (instead of Smith), most of their incredible offensive live plus a likely number 1 pick in the following draft. They likely still would have won several Super Bowls. He still had incredible speed at 35.

    Yes the trade was lopsided. Yes he had some lowlights games like 16 yards but 2 fumbles for net of 3 in a game with Minnesota.... but he also had five 100 yard games and played special teams while established as a star already. So i guarantee you, Yes guarantee.... he was asked and agreed to do kick offs.

    Georgia ruined Herschel. If you watch his freshman year highlights vs the years afterward, he ran more like Bo Jackson. Faster without hesitating. They made him switch to the tippy toe style because they was scared he was gonna get hurt. I remember seeing an interview when Dooley talked about preserving him. … but… Bo did end up getting hurt…so…
