What a difference a year makes. Last year at this time Liu was the third ranked Chinese 89 and lifted in Asians as a very light 96-which he won but with a smaller total than the other 2 guys. He’s continued to gain weight and get stronger and is now the heavy favorite to win the 102s at Paris while Li Dayin and Tian Tao probably won’t even be there. Who’d a thunk it!

Liu would have been an incredible 89 kg lifter, had he remained in the category. His 175 snatch at the Asian Championship looked comfortable, and he narrowly missed 223 twice, weighing 89.43 kg. And he was only what, 20 or 21 at the time as well?

@@brandonrothsman2665 Im guessing some issues in training. His set-up before his lifts were wonky as hell, probably due to an injury but idk anything for certain.

It’s a shame that Karlos is so dominant we probably won’t see Liu as an 89 again even though that’s where he’s more comfortable. He’d be a monster

Audio seems to be slightly ahead of tghe video. You often react to the outcome just before the lift is completed. Otherwise great commentary.

Can’t get any closer than Dedhar came. PR in snatch had the 214 to arms length until the last moment. We’d have seen his back flip for sure if made it. Pretty good for a man over 100kg. I was disappointed Gasparyan got bumped, I’ve been a fan since he was a junior but I must admit Karapetyan is now a better lifter. For such a huge pull Garik does not have a great clean. It seems his elbows are always close to knee-touching. He does have relatively long arms maybe that hampers him getting the elbows around, then up and out of the way. He might make his jerk’s easier if his cleans improved. Still an outstanding lifter. Hope he medals in Paris.
