102-year-old runner has no plans of slowing down | SC Featured | ESPN Stories

Спорт

At age 102, Julia Hawkins has a lot of passions in life, but none more thrilling than running. She broke a world record for the 100-meter dash by female competitors 100 years and older and she shows no signs of stopping.

She came in last in the 80+ age bracket, but she was the only runner over 100. So a new record for the 60-meter dash for age 100+! And she is running, not walking. You can see at playback speed 0.25 that there is a fraction of a second when both feet are off the ground. Her 60-meter time of 24.75 sec amounts to a 11 min 4 sec mile. That's faster than most people walk (15 minute mile).

What amazes me is how her joints hold up at 102. I work out 5-days a week, but don’t run because of arthritis and knee pain, and I’m a few decades younger. I really wish I could run, but it would cripple me. I don’t know how these older people do it without injuring their joints. It’s truly amazing.

That isn’t normal either, but people today trash their health and live stressful. People passing in their 50’s 60’s, 70’s etc is not normal but I guess in these unhealthy times sure.

My great grandmother lived to 98 1/2, she outlived 8 of her 9 children and beat cancer twice. She was a midwife from the age of 14, helping women deliver babies who couldn't afford to go to the hospital (very poor rural area) They made people tougher and better back then😊

@@bouche8503 As your grammar was not proper, I don't know if you were writing "why do whiter people think this planet is theirs exclusively". What I wrote has nothing to do with race, but simply of being human. People gave a 102 year old lady who is running a thumbs down. That has nothing to do with what you wrote, but everything to do with people acting without humanity, for which this planet with over 8 billion in population has a sufficient number of great people, that we don't need anymore jackasses. If you have a question, try and write it out a little better.
