1000 mile road trip Kei Car adventure

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

So I am an idiot, I flew up to Iowa to buy a Kei Car and drive it back to Texas with zero planning, knowing nothing about anything, but it worked out. Welcome TURBO WEEABOO BANGBUS to the car collection! Actually, I traded this thing for a drift car already, welcome back hand breaker Mustang drift car again. It will be at Round 1. I'm not sure why I made this video but people told me to, you can watch me get blown around on highways in a Kei Car and try not to die, sick stuff lol.
Yes this is the video Jalopnik posted.

I live in Malta where use right hand drive vehicles, and Japanese imports are extremely common. I see these vans all the time and other classic kei cars too. We also use kph rather than mph. These kei vans are geared like that as our speed limit is 80kph and are designed for torque rather than for speed. Those little engines can sit at 6k rpm all day long with no problems. Japanese reliability at its best! Our gas costs 5 USD per gallon so these cars are also easy on the wallet. Nissan GTR's (R34 and 35's) and other 'hard to import' Japanese cars are also very very common. We do not have strict import laws. The only problem is the high cost of registration tax on importing vehicles in an effort to reduce the number of cars imported into our small island. I've never been to the US and I'd love to as American cars are hard to come by (and very expensive to own.) Great video!

The gear ratio prevents it from going any faster. From what I can see is that your HP peak is around 5-5.5k RPM. Your final gear ratio needs to increase by about 10 to 20%. The Turbo is basically suffocating that engine. You can also use a small bypass hose in front of the turbo, lowering the PIS to get better top speeds. There's only so much that engine can take.

wow! that is an awesome drive... i have one but it has a .66liter engine, slightly bigger than yours. no turbos though but offers a 50hp. the newer ones with turbo offers a 67hp but it is much expensive because in japan, kei cars has to be under a certain horsepower. beyond that it falls to another tax bracket so much more expensive. but still, we tweaked it to reach 70hp and had smaller gears to increase speed at the expense of torque...

I just thought about it. If you got a friend to drive a rental van in front of it you can draft all the way home or on long trips much faster. Say 2-3 car lengths and you've got 65 maybe 70mph. 😆

If it stays in Texas, I'd be curious to know if they ever got the van titled and registered. I used to live there, had a KEI minitruck. After 10 glorious months with it, the state voided my title and registration, and forced me to pull it off the road stating that they never should have allowed it to be titled and registered in the first place.

  • @justinv433

Texas absolutely will not register them. From what I understand some states will allow them, though. He says in the video that the paperwork is "shady".

My friend had one of these, Super Carry. it was 1.0 l carburetor 4 cyl (F10A) from factory. 5 speed, rwd. Afterwards turbocharged with intercooler. Too bad fuel line exploded while driving 100 kmh and the whole car burned. It was fun, stock 140 kmh speedo was not enough for it, went over it fast. Total sleeper.
