100 Yen Shopping at Seria: More Dollar Store Shopping in Japan | Life in Japan Episode 140

In America we have dollar stores, but in Japan we have 100 yen stores. These stores have a little bit of everything, and in this episode we're checking out Ruth's favorite Seria, one found in Yamanakako near Mt Fuji. How does it compare to other 100 yen shops? Watch to find out,

100円 shops are my happy place. I live in the greater LA area, and love going to Daiso! There was a time when everything I bought was from Ross stores, but their inventory is no longer what it used to be. I’m always amazed at the quality of the merchandise @ Daiso. When they first came, they had more stylish & fun stuff, but comparatively, they’re still good, and certainly can’t beat the value! I love buying things for the household, and do like small, cute versions of things, so I can literally spend HOURS looking around, slowly studying the goods in the store, aisle-by-aisle.

I have a freakish enthusiasm for these sorts of videos. I love 'em. I'm returning to Japan later this year and use these videos for both inspiration and education; you film things slowly and linger so I can study what's on offer and importantly I CAN SEE THE PRICES! Yay! This is important so I know which things to add to my travel shopping list and which places to pin on my itinerary's google map. Thank you SO SO MUCH this video, and your channel in general.

Usually when in Japan I can run into 6000¥ to 7000¥ at one go in dasio. I always visit Seria , Watt 100, Le Plus, Can*do, 3 Coins and 390¥ in Osaka. It cost us $2 in Singapore. So I shop and shop in all of these places when in Japan.

I'm Japanese and I had kept telling my German boyfriend how great 100 yen shops are, but never having visited Japan, he was always like "well, but it's just like a Euro shop, right?" and I was like "No, Euro shops are like 100 yen shops from 30-40 years ago!" but he never believed anything I tried to explain. A year after that, he visited Japan with me for the first time in his life. He went all crazy and spent 8,000 yen (like 80 US dollars) at the end at 100 yen shops during his 3 weeks stay in Japan! XD Oh and one more thing: When people ask me what I miss the most from Japan except for my family and friends, I always answer "100 yen shops!!!!" :D

The equivalent for it in Germany is "Euroshop" but actually most suff in the Europshop sucks tho. I mean sure they have stuff like cups, pencils, sticker, books, spices, hairclips, snacks, fake tuperware, etc. but you mainly just go into these if you don't really plan on shopping there since its 99% of the time nothing too special you even want and they often don't even sell cool things there so I remember I only got 1 small storageboox and a lunchbox from there but that was it ... Foreign stores in the same price-range seem to look much cooler tho

It is very easy also to get items that you do not need because the look "cute", etc. Need to ask yourself "Do I really need this? Or I want this?" If you just want it, then most of the time you should not buy it. You will end up with so much stuff that you do not have a use or place for.

I haven't been to Japan but if I were to go to a 100 yen store, my favorite section/aisle would have to be the craft and art supplies.

I don’t mind these types of stores depending on the product. Not sure how the toothpaste and mouth wash is in 🇯🇵 compared to 🇺🇸 ? Hope you and your family and other Foreign residents who live in 🇯🇵 have a safe 👍 New Year in 2022 🎉🍙⛩💫🎉🇯🇵🇺🇸👍📸.
