Black people's hair is BEYOND diverse! And the fact that they needed at least 2 models to represent some of the decades, just proves that!

i feel like the young lady from the late 2010 to the next decade, the tweens should be represented by the unburdened natural sista. Instead of Beyonce we should have Teionna Parris as the face of the decade.

But it's changing because more Black women are standing up against such mistreatment. And in the future i feel like we can go to work or other places without straightening our hair or relaxing our hair. At my secondary school they tried kicking me out for having my afro and not tying up my hair as it was a school policy to tie it up if its below shoulder length which it was not. I rebelled and explained to the teacher who was white (and had mixed kids so idk why she didn't look into black hair but whatever) that my hair doesn't flop down like hers i'm black and that hairbands will break when i attempt to tie up my hair, my hair isn't shoulder length and that unless she wants to pay for me to get braids she should leave me alone. Since then more of the black girls in my school started coming into school with their natural hair or did the big chop. I'm not saying you're incorrect btw

The fact that people are offended by this video is so funny to me. Black women have been put down for literally everything until this very day. Now when we get representation about us and historically how our hair has been and the different styles we've had throughout the years, y'all throw a fit. And for what? Black girls get teased for our hair ALL THE TIME. And when we try to uplift ourselves and each other because we finally realize how beautiful we really are, you guys get so butthurt. Black people in general are always targeted and have always been looked down upon, give us a break. Let us praise each other and be proud of who we are. Thanks.

@@youknowimdoingit2074 the absurdity of calling out someone "I wouldn't expect you to understand, you're white", of course she will only state never police a black woman's hair because the video is about 100 years of Black women's hair, not "100 of Black people hair". Everybody gets it, OP understand it as well, you only make an argument just to secretly spit racism towards someone. Jazzy James the reason white washing doesn’t exist is that white people do not claim hairstyles as their own like that. Most white girls do not want to be black. Most of the ones wearing their hair like that probably just like and appreciate the hairstyles without wanting to disrespect the culture or history behind it.

I have always loved the Afros & Braided hairstyles of the late 60s and 70s. I live in a small community semi country town in the Mid West and I wear my huge Afro Kinky Hair Proudly. It was so refreshing to see another Sistah at the store the other day in our town wearing her kinky Afro, similar to my hair. We just stared at one another, because our community is a predominantly white area and we hardly see natural hair, let alone a huge Afro. The great news,is that we are finally going back to our hair roots and we look so much prettier wearing our own kinky hair textured.

I disagree, from what I've seen (as someone who lived all her life in a predominately black city and attends an HBCU) having natural hair is becoming a standard - as it should. If not entirely natural, most people cut out the perm and wear wigs or protective styles (like braids, or faux dreads in their hair, and obviously straight weave) but underneath is still natural. The percentage of people who keep the perm is getting a lot smaller now days.

If you're talking to me, I've always considered someone natural if they don't have perm in their hair because weave comes out. I even have weave sometimes to keep my hands out of my hair for a while. No, you don't have your kinks up for a minute but that reversible - chemicals aren't unless you wait that long time for new hair to grow, or you chop all of it off.

It seems that you guys are confused. If people are saying anything about black hair being the best it doesn't really mean "Oh so they think they are the best". For a while now black women have been told that our natural hair isn't beautiful. So when you see someone praising black hair then its just them giving support to the community.

I remember that in Ebony magazine that our own people would do ads telling us its unacceptable for our hair to be natural so buy this hair straightner and your hair will stay straight even in the rain. I said hair straightner because they weren't calling them relaxers at that time .People bought that trash and 70 percent of most people hair came out. We even did it to our selves. Peoples hair was coming out in the wash bowl it was terrible! I Laugh when I think back on it because if you made it through the process you had to get your hair wet set and sit under the dryer until your hair dried. some people never made it to the rollers or the dryer. They had to go next door to the wig store. This is a true story yall, ask your grandmothers. lol

@@miriamhavard7621 I understand that too. Some ppl used to call me militant. But my point was and is that Black ppl are not exactly monolithic. There we're many different reactions to Afro's. The fact that the narrator would say that it was a symbol of Rebellion and or not that it was a symbol or Rebellion, Pride, Liberation, Knowledge, Reconnection, etc. is suspect. Black ppls afros we're "symbols" of many things to Black ppl. Rebellion was the only thing it meant to white ppl.

Serene The Bean Did you just name every random thing off the top of your head? Wigs? Lmao. Really? Apparently wigs are exclusively a black thing now. Honestly, what did that have to do with anything? And you basically just went ahead and confirmed my point. Any other race can do these things with their hair. Yes, the end result would look different, obviously. Just as a black person can do a white hairstyle. It would look a bit different because of the texture but they are still capable of doing the style. The fact still remains that black hair can't magically do all sorts of things that other hair can't. Except for, as I already said before, an Afro. That would probably be the only actual style I can think of that most white people couldn't achieve. At least without a perm or curling.

I cut my hair really short because I permed it and it ruined my hair. After the summer my hair grew a few inches. If my natural hair was a little bit longer I would defiantly wear it natural. But for now, I wear weave as a protective way for my hair to grow. Not becuase I don’t like my real hair bc I really do love it. I’m just waiting for it to grow back to its original length. People assume that I wear weave because I’m “bald headed” or I’m trying to be “white” when really I’m just wearing it to protect my hair and let it grow.

I am not Black, I am Mexican but I have a major respect for African hair because of all the time and effort ladies put onto their hair, as taught by my roomate whom she moisturize and always rock her tiny Afro!
