Well, there you go . A perfectly beautiful barnfind. Whether you sandblast and powdercoat and chrome or just get it running is personal choice. I see it as an irreplaceable artefact that will never again achieve the beauty of its life as it was lived up until it was turned into a museum display with zero soul. Years ago I saw an 18 year old who had received his grandfathers Harley as a gift , he bought two new tyres and a battery and rode that bike with pride just like his grandad had done.

You said it. Personal choice. I was glad they did not over-restore it, but kudos from me for bringing it back to life!

A better than new restoration, it may not have looked so good when freshly built, but a magnificent job done well, modern paints, sealants sure beat the old one's every time and they will keep it looking good for along time.

Really enjoyed the photos. My Dad had the dual headlight model back in the day. 1929JD , I think.

I see you laced on safety bead rims. My first Jd had them laced on years ago, I’m thinking that was a common update. I built a 26 JD with 41/2 inch stroke, that’s a blast. Have fun with it!

I really like it Dave, more my style. After the JD came the VL and then the Motor Company saved themselves with the EL model known as the Knucklehead.

This is a truely beautiful bike. However, I feel that it would have been even more attractive had the front forks, handle bars, frame, and rear kick stand had been painted black. I wonder if the shade of green was a factory color. I have always thought that painting the aluminum engine cases would contain the engines heat, and inhibit cooling. The primary cases and timing cases if not chromed would have been black. At one time I owned a 1948 panhead an EL a 61 cu. in. in forest green with similar red and cream pinstripeing. I still think that it was the prettiest of them all. Your seat is oh so fine. Thanks for sharing. Be well, Tom.

Old Poop who loves old bike wherever they are found and in any condition. I'm not into restoration so I wont go there, but they were built to ride. I would get it running and climb on and hold on. I once found a 1910 Dayton around 1988 This bike did not have control wire, throttle, brakes etc. It used solid rods and turnbuckles. The egine was in the front wheel and ha five cylinders. The front fender was a leaf spring, and the gastank was mounted on the handle bars. It took a little time and a coulp hsnd made parts, but I got that bike running. I rode it. Once.
