    7:33 lets face it. This is why string pins are hated. They need to increase the length of the string so these random drops stop happening.

    I don’t disagree, however once you extend the string length, you increase the percentages of tangles and delay, not to mention string breaking. Only solution is develop a modern free fall machine that is financially feasible (and pins) to lower ownership costs.

I still use $39.99 Dexter's with a $15 Hammer slide sock. I rolled a 289 a few weeks back with my Hustle M-M, which retails for $109.95. I look forward to seeing some "string action" shots. Place near me got them, they are the WORST to bowl imo. As was mentioned, pocket is way tighter, as you saw reaction is low, and so on. I get why they're becoming more prevalent, traditional pinsetters are insanely expensive new and getting more expensive to maintain for the old ones.

  • @USB-yp3tc

    @USB-yp3tc

    7 ай бұрын

    Yeah, it takes away a lot of the fun of bowling. Cross lane messengers simply don't exist. And picking up hard splits due to the pins "Tarzaning" around on the string does not feel like an accomplishment at all, it even feels a bit undeserving. On top of that, my avg. drops an easy 50-60 pins on string setters compared to freestanding pins. If I have a 200 game on string pins, I'm quite happy. I understand that freestanding-pin machines are just ridiculously expensive in maintenance and I completely understand why centers make the move I just hope that the "String-pin technology" sees some improvement that it gets closer to freestanding pins somehow.

    If you think string pins are weird, let's go back to the '80's when magnesium pins were being tested. I went to a tournament in Wilmington and practiced on the magnesiums just for fun. I used a Roto-Grip, 16 lb at a 13 mph speed. I had a 224. This hotshot bowler I knew let fly and left the 5-7-10!

    I don’t mind the string pins- it’s fun to shoot splits on them and watch the pin action go all wacky, but let’s please keep them out of pro competition. Although I know the PBA will try to shoehorn them into every tournament they can once it’s feasible.

    I would think the strings would get all knotted up & all tangled up. the videos never show how the string pins get set back up or how pins that don't leave the deck get off the deck? I guess the reason any bowling ally would have string pins would be to cut cost of NOT having a regular automatic pin setter or a combine pin setter?

    not having used them, but having watched some unedited videos. they keep attempting to pick up the pins and dropping them until all the pins correctly home. as a technician in another industry you get knots when an end passes through a loop. one end is fixed, the other end isn't far enough away to create loops. so the worst tangle you'd get is strings wrapping around each other

    wow at the stringpin hate, the video wasn't even about stringpins. both bowlers bowled on the same lanes with the same pinsetter so any issues were shared. it's a training centre, not a sports arena. this was a casual challenge game not a sanctioned pro event. they could have done this at a purely casual centre the point wasn't "stringpins are acceptable" it was never about stringpins at all.

    Packy…bowling has got to get rid of string pins. PERIOD! In Canada I bowl 5 pin and did so for 50 years (professionally for 29 years) I’ve bowled on both free fall (no strings) and strings…you cannot compare scoring as strings are worse. I’ve also bowled 10 pin so I can make a decent comparison with the two games. There’s more skill on free fall…ball speed, rotation, angle of attack in the pocket. Strings is simply rare back and heave it. I realize the financial advantage of string pin machines but it is a serious disservice to the game and players. Frankly it removes the enjoyment of the game. From what I’ve seen through your videos, there’s no doubt the strings are affecting the game, both physically and scientifically. Somebody has got to a develop a financially feasible automatic free fall pinsetter if Brunswick/AMF eliminates free fall machines.
