I just found out my great grand daughter (age 10) has discovered scrap booking. So tonight after watching a couple of your videos I called her mom and she is bringing her over here tomorrow morning for a couple days so we can do some of this. HOW AWESOME IS THAT!

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this video and this channel! Some of the thrifty techniques I've found through trial and error and super limited supplies are: you can use a fork to make lines/scrape marks in gesso or partly dried acrylic pain. Same for old mascara wands, scrubbing brushes, shower puffs... If you can stand the texture, ripping/fluffing up cotton wool pads can be super interesting. Untwisting twine or spring is great too. I also like to wrap string around something - a piece of card, paper, even my fingers - and pressing it into tacky paint is really interesting too, or using it like a stamp. Dipping or covering paper in water and then letting it dry all crinkly can lead to some really interesting textures as well. And my final favourite tip is if you have watercolours - even super cheap ones - is to sprinkle salt over them while they're wet!

Hi Marta, just a tip. You can seal your make-up with hairspray. So it won't smear. I use hairspray when I finish a drawing and it works perfectly !

  • @manymusings

Wouldn't that cause the pages to stick together when the book closes? I use hairspray to set my charcoal art so I know what you mean. It is a great fixative. I just wonder how that would work with facing pages.

I love the idea of challenging oneself to make an art project/journal page without using art products. I WILL do that soon - after I get caught up on my current projects! One reason I like your videos above others is because you speak your thought process out loud. In that, I recognize where we are the same, and different. Both help me in my own process. It was fun to catch glimpses of your face in the mirror in this video, and I liked meeting your guinea pig, Suzie! It is fun getting to know you bit-by-bit. Like when I learned that you are Polish. I am of Polish heritage!( my maiden name, before it was "Americanized" by immigration was Cienkowska) Really, this means nothing, yet it makes me feel more of a kindred spirit with you. I would love you to come to America and stay at my place, and play in my art studio with me!

I just watched your video, and it was like watching magic. Honestly. I could not stop watching because I just couldn't imagine how it would all fit together. With each layer I wondered how would that work. And how crazy is that to add and add weird bits. Such odd random items. Because I am not an artist and have not the gift, I was completely entranced when you added color and more color and then powder and pencil. What emerged was incredibly amazing! Magic! You inspire me to consider the idea of just experimenting with things I have already and practice and learn. Thank you for sharing your gift.

I love the 'Breaking The Page' videos and I'm enjoying this set as well. I have finally started playing and I've broken two pages and now have two simple but pretty background pages. I have quite a few very nice products I've been collecting but I worry so much about wasting product that I just hated playing for fear that what I was creating wouldn't be pretty enough. Now, I'm just digging in and really playing and not worrying. Thanks so very much! You are AWESOME and I've shared your videos to Pinterest so others can enjoy and learn from you!

This is a great idea to use an old book for art journaling! This turned out beautiful, and I need to browse through your channel for more great ideas! Sometimes getting ideas from our heads, through our hands, and into the work doesn't always connect, but this is a technique that can be easily adjusted as you go. I've been saving things for years "that can be used for something". My daughter thinks I should throw out a lot of things - especially now that my health is very bad and forced me to retire early. I need to show her this video along with several other artist's work! Then she might understand that she needs to create to burn off anxiety and create some happiness in her busy life! Lately, I've been using a Sharpie to write on plastic ziploc bags to explain what the pieces are being saved to create. Hopefully, if my health plummets rapidly, she will be inspired to use all of my saved items and "spend time with me after I am gone". =) I would prefer to think that I can get my different art spaces set up SOON the way I want them and then along with my daughter, my mother can also spend time with us for 3 Generation Crafting Time together! Thank you for sharing your work and inspiring so many people to make beautiful art out of just about anything!

What an inspiring video! I am excited to try a non-art supply project. Susie was an added bonus, so sweet. I read that you lost her, I am so sorry. Thank you so much for taking time to spread your ideas. You are truly magnificent.

Thanks for your wonderful energy and love of art and sharing. Of course, to make the project 100% homemade you can easily make your own gesso by mixing white school glue, white acrylic paint, some marble dust or plaster-of-paris, and a little water. I do it all the time as here in South Africa products are difficult to come by and expensive! BTW - I love your accent - the Polish with the lovely Irish influence and lilt - a pleasure to watch you and listen to you. Thanks again.

Thank you for a great video, love watching and listening to you, this reminds me of when I first started mixed media about twenty five years ago, I use to use a lot of sewing items I had around from when I made the childrens clothes, you could hand or thread beads on the safety pins and press studs were great for attaching other items to the page. Love you are showing the new generation of artists, that is is not all about bought product.
