A little over halfway through the video is a photograph with the caption: "Art Pulliam hunting coyotes...Taken in 1889." The rifle in the photo appears to be an 1895 Winchester, which would of course make the date of the photo sometime after 1895. This photo was part of a collection in the Library of Congress that was taken from the Nebraska State Historical Society. It is a collection of photographs taken by Solomon Butcher in Nebraska. The Library of Congress has the date listed as 1889. This makes me wonder if other photographs in this collection are also dated incorrectly. I have used several of these photos in this video, and so the dates for these photos may also be incorrect, the photos include: "John Delane Wagon Shop, Broken Bow, Custer County, Nebraska." Taken in 1889. "D. Dunn just landed on his claim in Custer County." Nebraska. Taken in 1886. "Charley Meeks, Cowboy." Nebraska. Taken in 1886. "My first house in Nebraska." Solomon D. Butcher in front of his dugout. Circa 1886. One more correction: the photo of a prairie schooner is actually of a Conestoga wagon. The Library of Congress has it labeled as a prairie schooner, the wagon in the photo has a sign saying it is a prairie schooner, but prairie schooners were smaller and lighter and it was the Conestoga wagons that were angled up on the ends. Yet another correction: the photo of Native Americans in front of tipis in Aberdeen, South Dakota is listed as being in 1880. Aberdeen, South Dakota did not begin until 1881.

The rifle is an 1895 Winchester. The photo was labeled 1889. An 1895 Winchester would not have existed in 1889. Therfore the photo was taken after 1895.

Solomon D. Butcher is worthy of a study of his own. AND you are correct about the Winchester rifle as Solomon absolutely staged many photos for his historical book project that took 17 years before being published. Broke, lost his farm, had to stop. Worked got out of debt then finished project publishing “Pioneer History of Custer County and Short Sketches of Early Days in Nebraska” 1901- where I believe the “improper rifle” photo was published. He went out arranged to take photo’s & collect stories. Interesting story of his own 😃👋🍻

June 1886, Butcher took the first photograph for the book. He met a certain amount of skepticism-"Some called me a fool, others a crank..."[18] He began his work only thirteen years after the establishment of the first homestead in the county,[20] when it could hardly be said to have a history.[21] He persevered: from 1886 to 1892, he took over 1,500 photographs and recorded over 1,500 narratives.[18] Hard times struck Custer County in the early 1890s. Crops failed in 1890; good crops in the following two years were offset by low prices. The harvest was small in 1893, and the spring and summer of 1894 were almost entirely devoid of rain. The county also partook of the nationwide depression that began with the Panic of 1893.[22] Butcher was an early victim of this agricultural and economic collapse: in 1892, he lost his farm, and was forced to suspend his history project.[23] The Populist Party and its predecessor, the Farmers' Alliance, were strong in Custer County in the 1890s, carrying elections for a decade beginning in 1889.[24] Butcher attached himself to the movement and, in 1896, was elected Justice of the Peace and Clerk of the Election for West Union. Rising farm prices and a generally improving economy allowed him to secure a home and to get himself nearly out of debt, and in 1899 he was about to resume work on the history.[25][26] In 1899, however, Butcher's house burned down, destroying its entire contents, including the pioneer narratives and the photographic prints. Fortunately for the history project, the glass negatives were stored in a granary, and escaped the fire. The house had carried no insurance, however, and Butcher was once again left penniless.[12][25] Butcher persevered, again setting himself to the task of compiling pioneer narratives. He secured the assistance of George B. Mair, the editor of the Callaway Chronicle, in editing these accounts and in preparing the manuscript.[12] To cover the cost of engraving, typesetting, and publishing, he recruited Ephraim Swain Finch, an early settler of Custer County and now a wealthy rancher. Finch, whom Butcher knew through his Populist activities, agreed to underwrite these expenses; moreover, he placed an advertisement in the Custer County Chief, assuring readers that orders for Butcher's forthcoming book would be filled.[25] First order of 1,000 copies sold out before printed/

My German immigrant great grandfather built a sod dugout house when he arrived in the Nebraska territory, as a child in the late 50s, I was taken out on the ranch and shown the remnants of his original first home. My father while digging through the ruins found an old pump handle that may have been used by him and I have that pump handle hanging on my back porch to remind me where I came from.

    (103) THE GOSPEL OF THE WORD OF ALMIGHTY GOD "is a great last day (age of the word) that He will save man so accept the new and last work by done the Lord Jesus Christ" "Utterances of Christ's in the Beginning chapter 103". ... (A thunderous voice goes forth, shaking the whole universe, deafening the people, making them too late to leave the way, and some are killed, some are destroyed, and some are condemned. Listen carefully, the claps of thunder are accompanied by the sounds of weeping, and this sound comes from Hades, this sound comes from hell. In Me nothing is hidden, nothing is emotional, but everything is open, righteous, and unbiased. I will investigate them one by one, leaving nothing out, revealing them completely. Most people ignore My words and, thinking that words are just words and facts are facts. They are blind! This is the time for the great work of My Spirit (at this time those who will be blessed and those who will suffer misfortune are differentiated). For Me, everything is easy. It is enough to show My righteousness and enough to show My majesty and My wrath, which will burn all earthly things, all worldly things, and all things that are not in accordance with My will. I have to do it this way in order to obtain My first-born children and to fulfill the things I want to do.) Almighty God said A THUNDER of VOICE GOES OUT, SHAKES the ENTIRE UNIVERSE, deafens PEOPLE, MAKES THEM LATE to LEAVE the WAY, and some are KILLED, some are DESTROYED, and some are JUDGED. It was truly a sight that no one had ever seen before. LISTEN CAREFULLY, THUNDER BLASTS with SOUNDS of CRYING, and this SOUND COMES from HADES, this SOUND COMES from HELL. This is the bitter CRY of the SONS of REBELLION whom I have already JUDGED. 😪 Those who DO NOT LISTEN to what I SAY do not DO My WORDS are SEVERELY JUDGED and RECEIVE the CURSE of My WRATH. My VOICE is JUDGMENT and HATE, and I DO NOT SPARE and SHOW MERCY to ANYONE, because I am the RIGHTEOUS GOD HIMSELF, and I HATE; I BURNS, I CLEANSE, and I DESTROY. ☀️🙏 With Me NOTHING is HIDDEN, NOTHING EMOTIONAL, but EVERYTHING is OPEN, STRAIGHT, and UNPAIRED. Because My FIRSTBORN SONS are WITH Me on the THRONE, RULING ALL COUNTRIES and ALL PEOPLE, those unjust and unjust things and people begin to be judged. 🙏 I will investigate them one by one, leaving nothing out, revealing them completely. For My judgment is fully revealed and fully open, and there is nothing left at all; I will cast out anything that does not conform to My will and let it perish eternally in the eternal abyss; I will let it burn forever in the eternal deep. 😪🙏 This is My RIGHTEOUSNESS; this is My righteousness. NO ONE CAN CHANGE it, and it MUST be at My ORDER. 🙏 Most people ignore My words and think that words are just words and facts are facts. They are blind! ☀️ Do they not know that I am the FAITHFUL GOD HIMSELF? 🙏 My WORDS and TRUTHS come true at the same time--doesn't it? People do not really understand My words, and only those who are ILLUMINATED will REALLY UNDERSTAND--this is a FACT. 🙏 The moment people see My words they are terrified, hiding everywhere, not to mention when My judgment will fall. When I CREATED ALL THINGS, when I DESTROYED the WORLD, and when I MADE PERFECT the FIRSTBORN CHILDREN, ALL THESE THINGS WERE FULFILLED THROUGH A WORD from My MOUTH, for My WORD ITSELF the AUTHORITY, the JUDGMENT. 🙏 It can be said that I Myself am the judge, the majesty, and no one can change it. This is one side of My administrative duties; a way for Me to judge people. In My eyes, all people, all events, and all things--nothing--no matter what--are in My hands and under My judgment, no one and nothing dares to behave rough and unyielding, and all must be fulfilled according to the words of My mouth. ☀️ In human understanding everyone believes in My words. When My SPIRIT STANDS, PEOPLE DOUBT. They NEVER KNEW of My ALMIGHTYNESS, and they MADE THREATS AGAINST Me. I tell you! Whoever doubts My words, whoever despises My words, these are the ones who will be destroyed, they are the eternal children of perdition. 😪 From this it can be seen that there are very few first-born children, because this is My way of doing things. As I say, I do not move a single finger, but I only use My words to fulfill all things. Here, then, is My omnipotence. In My words no one can see the source and the purpose of My speech. People cannot achieve this, and they can only act according to My leading, and can only do everything in accordance with My will according to My righteousness, so that My family can have righteousness and peace, live forever, forever strong and unshakable. ☀️ My JUDGMENT COMES to everyone, My ADMINISTRATIVE ORDERS TOUCH everyone, and My WORDS and MY PERSON are REVEALED to everyone. This is the TIME for the GREAT WORK of My SPIRIT (at this time those who will be blessed and those who will suffer misfortune are differentiated). ☀️ The MOMENT My WORDS CAME OUT, I made a difference between those who would BLESS and those who would SUFFER misfortune. It's all crystal clear and I can see it at a glance. (This is spoken in relation to My being, so it does not contradict My pre-ordained and chosen.) ☀️ I WOULD WANDER MOUNTAINS and RIVERS and ALL THINGS, in the space of the UNIVERSE, OBSERVING every PLACE and CLEANSING every PLACE, so that those UNFLUTED PLACES and those filthy GROUNDS will ALL CANCEL and BURN to in LOSS because of My WORDS. ☀️ For Me, everything is easy. If now is the moment I predestined to destroy the world, I could swallow it up with a word, but now is not the moment. EVERYONE must be READY BEFORE I DO this WORK, so that My PLAN WILL NOT BE DISRUPTED and My ADMINISTRATION DISRUPTED. I KNOW HOW to DO it rationally: I HAVE My WISDOM and I HAVE My OWN ADJUSTMENT. The people must not move a finger---be careful not to be killed by My hand; it already touches My administrative assignments. FROM this the STRENGTH of My ADMINISTRATIVE ORDERS CAN BE SEEN, and the PRINCIPLES of My ADMINISTRATIVE ORDERS CAN BE SEEN, WHICH INCLUDE TWO ASPECTS: On the one hand I KILL EVERYONE WHO is NOT in ACCORDANCE with My WILL and is SINFUL of My ADMINISTRATIVE ORDERS; on the other hand, in My wrath I CURSE ALL THOSE WHO OFFEND My ADMINISTRATIVE ORDERS. 🙏 These two aspects are indispensable and are the governing principles of My administrative assignments. Everyone is treated according to these two principles, without emotion, no matter how honest people are. It is enough to show My righteousness and enough to show My majesty and My wrath, which will burn all earthly things, all worldly things, and all things that do not conform to My will. In My words there are hidden mysteries, and in My words there are also revealed mysteries, so to the human understanding, to the human mind, My words will forever be incomprehensible and My heart will forever be un--- unfathomable In other words, I must take away from people their understanding and thinking. This is the most important topic of My management plan. I HAVE TO DO IT THIS WAY to GET My FIRST CHILDREN and to FULFILL the THINGS I WANT TO DO. 🙏 From "The WORD Appears in the Flesh". holy book Fulfilled in "In the beginning He was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1). ... and "When I looked up, someone handed me a book wrapped in a scroll. I opened it and I read on both sides the prayers, lamentations, and curses." (Ezekiel 2:9-10). ... "His garment was stained with blood. He was called the "Word of God" (Rev. 19:13). The kingdom He brought down and set up in the highest in the sky so that it can occupy His creation in the universe and engrave on it the entirety of His Holy name "THE CHURCH OF ALMIGHTY GOD" 💐 fulfillment of (Mat. 16:18) "And I say as for you, you are Peter, on top of this rock I will build my Church, that even the power of death will not prevail over it.". ... and "The Letter to the Church in Philadelphia" (Rev. 3:7-13). ... And fulfillment of "The New Jerusalem" 💫 (Rev. 21:10) "The Spirit enveloped me, and the angel led me to the top of a very high mountain. He showed Me Jerusalem, the Holy City, which coming down from heaven from God." (1 Peter 4:17) "For the time has come in the house of God for the beginning of judgment in the house of God." 📩 Calling and leading the sheep of God to His glorious Throne "THE CHURCH OF ALMIGHTY GOD"💐 to submit again to His authority so that He will continue to teach, guide and protect even in plague, famine and wild animals will not be moved by it and completely win this final battle with the big red dragon! "They say with a loud voice, "Salvation comes from the Lamb, and from our God who sits on the Throne!" (Rev. 7:10). ... and it will be fulfilled that will be established above the sky/KZread in (Isaiah 2: 2 / 9:6) "On the Last Day, the mountain on which Jehovah's temple stands will stand out above all the mountains. All nations will flock there. " . . . "For a baby boy is born to us. The rule will be given to him; and he shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace." 💌

Really? You love EVERYTHING about this period of American history?? This is the romanticized version of what the west was really like, think about this for Western tradition No sewerage, you had to dig holes in the back yard or where ever you camped, make sure you dig them upwind, then hope the wind doesn't change direction, doesn't make for an appetizing odor at meal time, Can you imagine the size or the number of holes they had to dig for a whole town? you would not want to go for a walk after dark if you didn't have a map of the Sh*tholes(pardon the French) would you? No Toilet paper Women had no tampons Women would ALWAYS be pregnant families of a dozen or more kids would have been the norm( no doubt a lot of babies would have been murdered as they would be too much of a burden on the family budget).....but as you hardly ever saw your neighbor no one would ever know they had ever existed, just collateral damage a Tough life for the women and they had NO say, tough times for everyone No carpets in the house, mostly dirt floors Very little water to wash with water had to be carried Everyone would stink Disease was rampant Infant deaths was substantial Cook on a fire No electricity No TV No internet Very little to no contact with extended family(Mother's, Father's, brother's and sisters, friends) once you pack up and "head west" Indians, lawlessness, danger, wild animals, bears, Mountain lions coyotes etc just to mention a few of the less "romantic" aspects of the times, Life wasn't like it is depicted on TV or in photo's Everyone would like to be a Cowboy....but at day's end it is nice to come inside, have a shower, put on your PJ's and watch a little TV, what d'y reckon? HAVE A GREAT DAY!

The most wonderful thing you can do is preserve the memories of the older members of your family. Please keep photos and record, in writing and on video, their stories! My own late grandmother, newly married, traveled across the USA to Long Beach during the Oklahoma dust bowl. The stories she told of doing that were astonishing! And while in CA, a movie producer saw my mother win a baby contest, and tried to talk my grandmother into allowing my mother to be cast as the daughter of the lead actor in a movie that was being produced at the time. My grandmother eventually said no, but spent a couple days on a movie set and saw the inner workings of Hollywood at the time.(Glad she said no. Certainly, life would have been quite different for the family.) So please, record these precious stories. The baby boomers are aging and both their stories and the stories of parents, grandparents, and great grandparents will be gone in the not too distant future. This is our history as a nation, whether the stories are good or bad, and all of them need to be preserved!

A few years ago animal rights activists (the same people who think you shouldn't have any rights), got the California legislature to make coyote hunting illegal. Then the coyotes got so numerous that they started taking dogs and cats right out of front yards in suburbs, and children could no longer play outside for fear of them being attacked. So the law was, eventually, rescinded. The animal rights activists held protests. That was almost fifty years ago. The insanity is nothing new, it's just spreading!

That was realy a treat, im old enough that my Grandma and Grandpa came to California from Nebraska accross the great plain then to the Oregon Trail over the Shasta Cascade Pass down into Northern CA in 1910 on a wagon train, i think they had 6 mules, pulling thier wagon, and two riding horses for transportation. Made a land claim, in the foot hills of the Mendecino hills, the other travelers brought parts for a buzz saw run off the Creek with paddle power, cut down the pines, and building thier homes and town from the natural recorces, the two towns are still there, the Towns of Flournoy and Paskenta CA, My Dad grew up in those Homestead homes, had a one room School and it was the Church on Wed and Sundays. My Father born in 1924 still living in those homestead houses they built. 29 years later i was born, my Conection to the Past that goes back 113 years now, both my granparents were born in 1890. Thier Parents had lived through the Civil War. Just Goes to show, not that Long ago, we were living in a completly different world than we have now.

What i wouldnt give to be able to have a conversation with one of these folks. Imagine a podcast with a man born in 1840 as the guest 😂. It would break the internet. As many westerns as there is, its hard to find an accurate account of what average, everyday american families did during this period and exactly how they lived. If youve never read the Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, check them out. Theyre the books that inspired the tv show of the same name, and while theyre sort of children's books, Laura does a great job of explaining what her father did daily to provide for the family, exactly what her mother prepared for meals and how, and the chores expected of her and her sisters. I highly recommend them to anyone interested in the period. We all have ancestors that lived exactly as Laura and her folks did.

Long gone are the days when you could walk onto a new territory and build and maintain your own home with the materials at hand. Now you are forced to pay someone to build it according to someone else's requirements and then after you move in the government stops by to tell you that you owe them yearly taxes on your new home, just for the privilege of staying in it. You see, according to the government you no longer own land or a home. They own it and you just pay rent (taxes) to stay there. If you doubt this, refuse to pay the taxes and see yourself evicted from what you thought was YOUR home! Then they 'sell' your home to the next renter who pays all of your delinquent rent and then they charge them yearly rent on the property!

I could not imagine riding a horse side saddle. Ive seen ladies do it. They have a club here in Louisville that dresses in Regency age clothing and all the ladies ride side saddle.

100 very worthy pics👌🏼❗ Against today's Creature Comforts, I often think of How did our Pioneers do it? Harsh weathers, daily physical labor just to stay on top of, and survive the day. 🙄😲🙏

I don't know if the quality of some of these photos are digitally enhanced or not, but many of these are almost 150 years old with great details. That's just amazing. Better than most of todays crappy surveillance cameras out there.
