Great video! The V5 sounds way better in Canada, for some odd reason. That 4400 is really nice. I agree with their C-414 sounding a bit muffled. I had the same experience after trying it again last week. The Atlantis is in a completely separate universe. One day… Thanks for the mentions and the read, by the way! I’m about to travel, and considering picking up the 4400 to take along.

Oh my Goshk! The Rode NT1-A sounds incredible. Go Aussies...oui oui oui... Every time I see a Chinese mic review, the metal on the grill (with the exception of the gold looking c414 copy) looks odd. Almost a pewter look. A bit close to the brain for any lead to be used (since you brought it up).

This is my favorite Bai Fey Li mic I’ve heard on your voice. This just catches such a warm and nice character in your voice. If you were doing VO this would be my first choice for you. The Rode NT1 sounds very good as well though.additionally that SE Electronics mic is a beast and while nothing compares to the Atlantis the Bai fry Li still sounds good and for the price I think is well worth it!

This video helps illustrate the amount of time and effort that goes into making these videos. And then add on top of that the videos where you record a song, with multiple parts. The V5 will work for a lot of people starting out. It lacks the warmth of some of the other mics, and sounds crisp. Seems like it would be good for a play-by-play sports announcer.

Hey there, are you thinking about checking out the new Zoom H1 Essential? I'm pretty confident you will, considering how you grabbed the H1n for a review after having the H1. I'm genuinely looking forward to your thoughts, especially when you compare it to the older models, looking at things like internal noise and how it works with accessories like the clippy. I'm thinking about upgrading myself, but I'd only do it if they've stepped up the preamps or mics because 32-bit alone might not be enough for me. If not I might wait for a pro model…

  • @TheRecordist

Hey! I didn’t have plans on purchasing one, and Zoom simply won’t answer my emails. But perhaps I’ll see if I can buy one. They’re cheap enough. In my cursory research, it looks like they’re the same preamps, just 32 bit, a new fancy OLED screen, and voice control (voice activated using commands). I couldn’t find any further info on the preamps. But Zoom will absolutely take every opportunity to talk about what they’ve upgraded, without fail, so I’m thinking they’re the same preamps. They also allow a much bigger SD card on one of the models, if I’ve read that right. I’ll see if I can get some more info for you. Cheers!

Maybe I'll wait for the pro version, which seems to be coming, hence the essential naming. On another note, I wrote an email to Zoom Germany and also didn't get a response. I thought it just got lost, but maybe not if you have had the same experience…

Not the biggest fan of any of the Bai Fei Li mics. Haven't used them personally just from what I hear on this video. I'd take the NT1 over any of those. Really enjoy the sound of the sE4400. As far as quality vs money I think that is the sweet spot. The Atlantis sounds sweet but $1750 is heftier than me. Overall I would pass on the Bai Fei Li. The V5 sounds quite good, slightly better than the v10 and 414 and much better than the Roud. I liked the SE's sound because it was open, but the 387 was richer and denser. A very interesting comparison. BaiFeiLi has very high level microphones... capable of competing with 387 and if I understand correctly they have been competing for a long time, but under other brands... Such testing would be interesting... I don’t think that they will send such microphones to bloggers for testing; I myself found out about the existence of the Bai Fei Li V10 XLR after a month of intense correspondence in search of a high-quality microphone, and then I purchased it and use it with pleasure. I’m not a big specialist, but I felt the difference immediately with previously purchased microphones, none of which were cheap.

So it really does matter what you are listening to the mics on, be it Sony headphones (Dell) or Sennheiser HD 280's (Macbook) hmmm? 🤣 Seriously though, the Mac sure has the edge on sound quality playback by loads, I've not checked out the audio with the HD280's yet, there was a noticeable difference with the Mac, and not so much with the Dell.

Hey thanks so much! I don’t hold any ill will towards BFL. They’re just not marketing-minded, I think. Either way, I did the reviews and will be moving on. I really appreciate your kind words! Cheers!
