@@TheRecordist pretty cool, I love the humour you put in to your video. I am considering to grab the C-414 but I need to think about it :). I was aiming to buy a Shure SM7B in to the near future but maybe the C-414 will do his job as well which is one third of the price.
@TheRecordist
Жыл бұрын
@@martijnvandongen292 Hey Martijn. Well they are very different microphones. The C-414 is a large diaphragm condenser mic that tends to pick up everything--including your room. If you haven't treated your space acoustically (dampen) then it won't sound good. The SM7B on the other hand is a dynamic and is very forgiving. You can use it anywhere and it'll sound great. I would get both, but that's just me. Haha The other thing to consider is the SM7B has a great resale value where as the BFL C-414 is largely unknown. Hope this helps!

Hello awesome random guy from the Internet! I absolutely love the content you make. Your videos are inspiring! I shoot ASMR content myself (now on Blue Yeti microphone) and I'm thinking about switching to XLR equipment. I would be interested to know your opinion, what setup can I put together for a good sound? It would be great if it was on a budget. Thank you very much for your creativity!
@TheRecordist
Жыл бұрын
Haha. Thanks! ASMR eh? That depends on what you’re after. If you’re looking for the ultimate binaural experience, I would look at a binaural mic like these: www.sr3d-microphones.com/?ref=8q6q01jj You can use my referral code TPS10 to get 10% off! I actually did a review on the AWI SR3D Binaural mic right here on my channel. You can watch it here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/jHmYrK6on87Nfc4.html That paired with a small recorder like the Zoom H1n would be all you’d need. I reviewed that recorder too. For an XLR rig, you have many options, but they can get expensive. For ASMR you’ll need a super quiet mic. For a large diaphragm condenser, you might look at the Røde NT1. Not the NT1a. The NT1. For interfaces, you can check out the Audient EVO series. That should get you started! Hope this helps!
Truly better than it should be, for the price. What a great option for people on a budget or just getting into VO type things. In your C-414 video, it also had incredible proximity effect. As for the name brand...from what I've seen, many Chinese companies will make up a name, sometimes combining known Chinese names (I've found info on prominent Chinese people with different combinations of 2 of the 3 parts of the name of this mic brand), sometimes using "Pro-" or "-Master," and even "Promaster" in order to sound very legitimate, and also just almost English sounding words.....like "Fifine." I've seen a number of Chinese name brands, producing various products, exist for about 6 months to a year or two, and then disappear, even after heavy marketing and half decent products, but then the same product will pop up under a new name brand. I was pleasantly surprised by your singing prowess. Please feel free to do more of that on here. I bought a USB mic for $6 USD at a local Amazon returns resale store (Price Drop) just to try it out. It weighed much more than I would expect for being so small (looks like a miniature model of a real large diaphragm condenser mic), and Chinese. It currently sells on Amazon for $30 USD. It is the Fifine K669 condenser mic. I thought because it weighed so much it might translate to sounding surprisingly well. It has far surpassed my expectations. It too has no right sounding as good as it does. I use it for Zoom meetings. I have a Sennheiser MK4 that I use for VO, but in a pinch I would use the K669 for VO as well. It would take a minute of tweaking in post to get the same sound as the MK4, but it is crazy how good this thing sounds with everything against it: Cheap, very small, questionable Chinese company name, USB. It does, however, have a following on KZread. A number of people have been pleasantly shocked by how good it sounds. It is the best $6 I've spent on audio equipment.

Chinese companies are pretty lost when it comes to giving themselves and their products names. And even when they try to transliterate their Chinese name they still manage to mess it up, as in the case of this company. The Chinese characters on the packaging are 柏飛利, which doesn't have any meaning in particular. But if transliterated properly, it should be BO Fei Li, not BAI Fei Li, for whatever that's worth, as the first character is pronounced "bo". The Godox name is especially hilarious, as the Chinese company name 神牛 literally means "sacred cow," or more loosely translated, "holy cow"! The company opted for "god ox" instead. Go figure.

@@milesian1 - Thank you for that. Very amusing information. We had an ID/OD grinder that was made in China in the machine shop I work in with LOTS of "Chinglish" text on it. One of my favorites was a safety warning that stated "TWITCHING HAZARD." I've worked on metal cutting machinery for 27 years. I am not sure what a "twitch" is in this context, but the warning is accompanied by a stick-figure man with lightning bolts at his back. I have found Chinese made things from MANY different types of products named "Promaster." I think because those 2 terms individually are viewed as "proof of quality." Their item is both professional grade and are for masters of the field in which the item is used. However, I typically avoid items with this branding.
Sounds really good! I've got one and liking the V5 enough from what I've heard of that to order it as well, not that I need another mic. Curious, what if any was your processing on this? Just mic straight to pre with a little comp? Thanks for the review!

@TheRecordist

Hey there! All large diaphragm condenser mics are not good at rejecting background noise (room noise, outside traffic, etc). Self-noise is an entire other thing. That’s the hiss I think you’re referring to. In that case, this mic is a bit noisy in terms of self-noise (hiss). But it’s not really a problem these days with plugins you can use in post to correct that (Waves Clarity Vx, etc). Hope this helps!
