I’ve added a new thing to my pretrip on trailers… on the inside of the trailer door there’s a latch/metal fin looking thing that holds the door open when fully open.. I had one that didn’t have it and slowly came down at a vendor while being loaded… the forklift loader ran into the door and destroyed it….so now I check to make sure it’s there!! Also the 12series trailers I saw some don’t have it so again at a vendor being loaded but this time I went and advised the loaded hey be careful that door doesn’t have a latch to hold door open …. 👍

I know you're right that 99% of truck drivers don't do this. The reason why I know you're right on this is because I observed for a month in the winter how many flashlights I saw in the morning when people were hooking up to their trailers. Within that month I'm not sure how many people I observed but I can tell you how many I observed with the flashlight in the dark doing a pre-trip. It was a total of five people that had a flashlight or some sort of light to do their pre trip in the dark. So my question is always been how are we doing a pre-trip in the dark with no light. At the time I told that to the safety guy and suggested he should go out and watch in the morning when it's dark. When winter comes and it's dark in the morning give it a try and see what you see. I did this on my first day out at the DC for a solid month. I brought this up with a couple of CDTs and other miscellaneous drivers and I was quite surprised that they could have cared less about such information. If I was the safety guy at one of our DC's I would start a campaign for one solid month letting the drivers know that I would be observing to see how many flashlights I see in the dark in the morning. I'm not sure how effective that would be to get people to do pre-trips more thoroughly in the morning but I think the real point would be the drive for everyone to be aware of what's happening. The thing is if you actually tell everybody you're going to be watching and you didn't see a lot of flashlights that would be a major red flag let alone if you didn't tell anybody and just did a surprise secret observation. Just my thoughts on the situation for whatever it's worth.

I actually found a hundred dollar bill in BOL box once in CP in Chicago, and i also seen last driver purposly unpin a tight for me to correct it when i did my pre-trip. i skipped post trip a few times due to very heavry rain. I almost always do my 360, and nuts. -Best of the midwest - Ottawa.
