대한민국의 수도 서울은 흥인지문, 돈의문, 숭례문, 숙정문을 비롯한 팔대문과 성곽으로 둘어싸여 있다.
이 중 '돈의문'이 2013년 복원 예정이다. 옛 돈의문 자리에 세워져 있는 예술구조물을 통해 돈의문의 역사적 의미를 알아보고 돈의문에서 팔대문을 연결했던 서울성곽을 살펴봄으로써, 대한민국 역사에서의 서울의 역사문화적 가치를 알아본다.
