In the video, “Friend” in German is written as Freund/in. In German, Freund is a male friend and Freundin is a female friend. In this video, the German speaker says "Freund", a male friend.
In German, words like 'der', 'die', and 'das' are like our English word 'the'. However, these words can change a bit depending on how they're used in a sentence. Just like how we might say 'I' when talking about ourselves, but 'me' when someone gives something to us. For example, 'der' might sometimes become 'den' or 'dem' in different situations. See the list in the comments for all of the basic singular articles for this video.

Thank you. It really does no good to just learn the noun itself; to speak German correctly, you must know its gender too. This is a useful video, as far as it goes; but your extra effort saved me from having to look these up.

Thank you so much for this beautiful lesson. German is relatively easy to learn and I'm currently learning it, is not so difficult as many might think but any language has its own challenges and I'm still working on my English because I love it. ❤😊
