100+ ALTERS? SUB-SYSTEMS: Dissociative Identity Disorder | (Formerly Multiple Personality Disorder)

In this video, Kya explains how Dissociative Identity Disorder forms, briefly covers the theory of Structural Dissociation and goes over two different types of sub-systems that can exist in DID Systems. He covers why forming subsystems and polyfragmentation can both result in having high numbers of Alters for some systems, as well as talking about our own subsyem.
Kya sheds some insight on the slow healing and integration process in order to make sense of DID, uncovering Alters and trauma memories, and why its so complicated trying find answers about what's going on in your own head!

    The "layers of identity around the fragmented memory" kind of reminds me of how a tree grows around things stuck in it. You can't just pull them out without some serious work that might hurt the outside of the tree more to uncover it depending on how buried and large it is, but the fact that the tree could grow like that at all and overtake what tried to pierce it just shows its resiliency

    to me it sounds absolutely impossible to live a life with that many alters in a system. is it as bad as it seems like? or is it just as hard as living with like 10-20 altars? im aware that it really differs from system to system and that for some people 5 might already be impossible to deal with while others might funtion realtivly well with 12. but to me the difference between 10-20 and 400 seems huge. please let me know if you feel very umcomfortable with this question. i still need to learn what is ok to ask and what isnt. i will remove it if needed.

    How have you been able to track how many alters you have? As a system with 9, it feels like it would be almost impossible to have a body count with that many. Do you have a chart with everyone on it or do you just store it mentally. Im not trying to be rude or anything, im just really curious

    We're polyfragmented with 300+ alters and three other subsystems/layers/"cities" that we know of. We've only recently been able to bridge the gap enough to start communicating consciously with them and let them front. It's been quite a ride because they have a different set of traumas they're dealing with compared to us on the top layer.

    As a singlet, it is both incredibly fascinating and deeply troubling to see just how far the mind will go to make sense of and remove itself from traumatic events. I hope that, as processing continues and especially since Omega has been coming to front much more recently, that perhaps the subsystem will become more comfortable communicating, or maybe even allow you, Kya, access in some way, if they feel as though you’re ready. If nothing else, hopefully Sally can forge a stronger connection, since there’s already more between them and her than most of if not all of the alters in the main system. I also hope that these types of comments, which I make pretty frequently, aren’t upsetting. I could see how it could be interpreted as me pushing you all towards fusion or trying to rush your integration, but that couldn’t be further from what I want. All I want is to see you guys be able to reach a stable, comfortable, and hopefully mostly happy existence, whatever that means for your system, and I’ll be here for as long as that takes, and I’ll continue to watch afterwards to see what you guys are capable of when you don’t have to focus on trauma processing. Lots of love, all, and don’t forget to drink your water💜

    A very active amygdala is one change you'll see! The amygdala is, simply put, involved in assessing threats, and emotional memories. You'll also commonly see a hypoactive hippocampus, which is involved in storing long-term memory. A damaged hippocampus will also commonly release excess cortisol (stress hormone).

  • @bubbiccino

    @bubbiccino

    Жыл бұрын

    @@jessthoma2803 oh yeah! Now I remember watching something about that. I wonder if there’s a discernible difference for that between ADHD/neurodivergent brains (I sort of recall something about how these tend to have overactive amygdala/it’s triggered often) vs brains experiencing long lasting trauma vs if they are both. Do you know why the hippocampus would be less active during these times? I figured that it would store the memories since the brain seems to prioritize negative experiences to better prepare for survival in future instances.

  • @jessthoma2803

    @jessthoma2803

    @@bubbiccino Just from my limited research, it looks like high cortisol levels actually damage the hippocampus over time, making it visibly smaller than those without PTSD/trauma disorders. So it sounds like the misremembering and amnesia is more-so a side effect of high cortisol levels from the trauma itself? And then that becomes a defense mechanism in those with DID etc? Guessing, not a professional ✋

    @@sophialavreniouk6110 There is no one true personality, so no, Chloe wasn't the 'original' host. The *name* Chloe may be the body's birth name, but I'm unsure of that. If a person has DID, experiencing new or different trauma can cause them to fragment, meaning new alters to split off and come into being. Afaik, this happened for the Dissociadid system around 2020. The opposite of that process is called integration, which is when the amnesia barriers between two alters degrade and they eventually turn into one. There are some videos on their channel detailing two instances of integration, or fusion, of alters that happened in order to create Kya. First, Chloe and Nina fused into Nin. Then, a while later (for a more exact timeline, see their videos), Nin and Kyle integrated over many months to become Kya. Kya remembers being both of them, and has memories each one had, but while combining aspects of each one they've become their own person. So, technically Chloe is still there, and so are Nina, Nin and Kyle, as parts of Kya - but there is also Kya themself, more than the sum of their parts. Hope that helps!

    @@DissociaDIDThere’s a youtuber named Dr Elliott who’s a forensic psychiatrist in the uk, and he does a lot of discussion in his videos (mostly react videos) about PTSD and its various causes/effects/presentations (as well as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis, all the fun stuff). He seems very genuine, very kind, very informative. You might think about reaching out for some kind of collaboration about this kind of thing? It would split the workload a bit for you, and possibly introduce you to another nice creator, and help him grow his community as well. I definitely think he’d be interested in helping explain all these kinds of things to a wider audience, education and understanding are important to him. Just an idea, but i think it’d be worth trying.

    Thank you for sharing! As a system with several subsystems of both types due to extreme organized and ritual abuse, I think you did a great job of explaining them! Kind of spooked me to hear that Jade guards a section of caves with deeper traumas because we have an alter named Jade who does (did) the same. She doesn’t anymore, obviously not going to explain why😂 Jade was not her first name, it was chosen around our teen years or so, but she was a secondary Gatekeeper under our primary one and she handled our “underground” cave system that has all of our most severe trauma in it before she was placed elsewhere. Very interesting to hear about your structure! -Many but One (Edit: the having to guess with tiny little clues is such a mood and sucks so much😭 DID is the ultimate conspiracy theory of your own life. Our minds are truly something extraordinary, aren't they? It's mind-boggling to think about the complexity and sheer beauty of our brains. They're like these magical labyrinths, safeguarding our thoughts and emotions until our very last moments. It's just mind-blowing, really. Our minds, resilient and unyielding, demonstrate the incredible power within us. It's like witnessing a breathtaking symphony, where our thoughts dance and intertwine, revealing the wonders of our existence.

    I really like what you said at the end: Oftentimes healing comes with finding out new and difficult parts about one's mental state that one was never aware of. When I visited a therapist for the first time, the conclusion he came to was: "There's so much more issues we could get into but let's just focus on one at a time, because otherwise we will just open so many doors that we can't close at once." Finding out messed up and complicated stuff is a part of the healing process, and that's okay and one will find a way to deal with it, step by step.

    This is so much important information. As someone who does not have DID but does have CPTSD and amnesia from trauma, I can relate to forgetting about the memories and trying to piece them together. I'll never understand what it's like to have to share these memories with multiple groups of people though, let alone posting it online. I think you're incredibly brave and I hope it's not offensive to say that I find your conditioning incredibly fascinating. I'm sure it's extremely hard for you to deal with, but it blows my mind, but the brain is able to fragment and create such an amazing and damaging coping mechanism. It reminds me how fascinating the brain is and how even if we do hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years of work, we'll probably never fully understand it. Thank you for the information you post. You're incredibly brave and I wish you the best.

    I've been watching your videos for years, I think since early Nin, but I've made it my mission to watch most of the videos (Chloe's, Nin's, Kya and the other alters). Even tho I don't have DID I've learned a lot about it and its helped me to recognize symptoms that has led to me realized of traumas my brain have covered. It has helped me put names to situations and symptoms that I didn't understand or didn't know weren't normal. So I thank you for that. Your videos about triggers, grounding, anxiety and dissociation has shred life into my brain and life in general. It's mostly made my healing process smoother because when I finally started therapy (not too long ago) I went with a foundation that helped accelerate the process. There's still a lot I need to work on but still, just thankful for all the help. Just as I keep tabs on this channel and keep learning and researching I wanted to know (either by you or anyone in the comments) if there may be a channel about BD. I'm in the process of diagnosis for bipolar disorder, a therapist suggested it to my main therapist and now we're trying to figure out if I have it or not since its something that we weren't even contemplating. Unfortunately there's stigma around it so even researching on my own trough articles and stuff I still don't know what I'm dealing with. I just wanted to know if there's a channel similar to this but to bring awareness about bipolar disorder.

    Thank you so much for posting this! As a system newly diganosed (6 months since our official diagnosis but almost 1 year of complex dissociative treatment) its so important for us to hear about the healing journey of others, especially understanding the time and constant effort that is expected. We have a few perfectionist parts that really struggle with the slow pace of the healing process because they have such high standards for success. It was also really comforting to hear that you have to put a conscious consistent effort into healing. Its tiring to keep actively choosing to heal from the trauma rather than rely on dissociation, because it is waaay easier to numb and flea than confront reality. But its been super inspiring to watch you all over the years grow and heal. And seeing someone who is further along in their healing process who is incredibly resilient gives us alot of help and strength. Thank you so much for all you all do!

    Having subscribed to you for such a long time and watched your journey from afar, partially out of fascination but also becoming largely invested in seeing the updates and evolutions of your system as a whole, it's truly inspiring to see how each of you within the system as well as the system as a whole has grown and strengthened over the years. You are largely the same and yet so different to the system that appeared on that Padilla video three years ago and that is full credit to the hard work each of you has put in along your personal and individual healing journeys. With Sub-Systems still having so many unknowns and many unknowns to Kya, it certainly makes me curious how the sub-systems that have become aware to you in recent years may manifest in the future. And perhaps is a credit to your healing journey, as you become better equipped and more able to deal with the traumas that the main system has been through, that other systems within you are willing to show you their light and make themselves more known could even suggest there is a cautious optimism that they too may be presented more opportunities to address and grow much as the main system has and present themselves slowly to the main system. But that is just one theory from someone who largely knows far less than you already would. I wish you and everyone in your system and sub-systems the best in your continued journeys and though each system may have different intentions or different ultimate outcomes, where some may be reintegration, whilst others may look towards ultimately co-existence. I hope you are able to continue your growth and to find the space in which each alter within you may find some semblance of peace in where they exist.

Hearing your descriptions of your inner world, the way you all interact or can't interact, and the ways you learn about your own system, is extremely helpful for me to understand how humans with DID, the people that exist in a system and DID itself works. From a personal standpoint, it's also fascinating to hear how much the brain can be capable of - the ways your mind can protect yourself, the ways it will help you to understand what is going on, and how it makes connections all on it's own. It's like it can expand inwards infinitely, and build things that don't just feel real, but ARE real in the ways that are important. I really hope that the research on DID will continue much further, cause there seems to be so, so much to learn about it still. Thank you for building this project, and sharing about your own experience, as much as all of you are comfortable with. I went from only knowing this disorder from bad media depictions to being very involved in learning as much as I can about it - on one hand because of genuine interest, on the other so I can explain to people in my social circles, who might not even know that this disorder really exist, that humans with DID and the alters living in a system are just as human as everyone else. Your education is worth so much. Thank you, again.

    Im brand new to this channel and have just recently started coming to terms with the fact that we're a system. I just wanted to say thank you for your content and for helping someone new like me better understand and accept. I will be watching much more of your content from now on! ❤

    I really love these videos and the way things are explained. The pop-ups throughout make it easy to know what's happening or remember things. I also find the body's eyes so beautiful, they are such a deep and mesmerising brown.

    It's very impressive how often you upload now, I was seriously used to a video once in a blue moon at a certain point, but now there's like a video a week and it's like wow! So good for you! One can really tell how strong you are now compared to before

    This has nothing to do with the video, but you were in my dream last night!😅 we were talking & these thoughts came to my mind: "My boundaries don't make me difficult." "I am the best at keeping myself safe. That's why I am me. Nobody else could be as good at this." "I am my own guardian & that's why I exist. I am so incredibly strong, because of this purpose." "My boundaries may seem like a weakness to other people, but it is what makes me strong." "I exist to be my own best friend & guardian, and I feel so much love for myself for the first time ever." I feel strangely powerful & happy rn😅❤ so thank you for talking with me in my dream lol
