Oh jesus, finally. I felt like it's been ages since the last game of the year. They've dragged me into rehab, saying nonsense like "you can't have a game of the year every week' but here I am back at it again, feeling great. Can't wait for the next one.

I wonder if Winter gets involuntarily possessed by Brenda at this point, like she's always there and just takes over in the right moment

Man it was just a week ago or so I was watching the Olivera vs Serral game where Olivera was playing so well. Very cool to see him in the Winter rotation again!

Serral going on military duty just after they’ve nerfed Zerg for him, then probably coming back once they’ve buffed them again for everyone else is just hilarious 😅

This is the third best game of the year this week

Oliveira works so hard. That's his true superpower. He might even be less naturally talented than a lot of his peers. But he just works so damn hard. Hearing that story of how he treated Maru to some KFC to learn how to be a better TvP player is so classic and true to form for him. His sincerity and passion that shines through every time he plays is such an inspiration. No wonder he's the only guy who took Serral for a ride in Atlanta and really put Serral to the test. Honestly, if Maru worked half as hard or as focused, he might be able to challenge Serral for the #1 spot. But it's NOT Maru. It's Oliveira instead who's stepping up to Serral. Truly, the people's world champion.

The Avalanche rolls through Reynor once again. You cannot let Oliveira build momentum. Reynor still refuses to learn that the Ling backstabs are nothing but wasted larva against him, and only cost him supply he can't afford to not have in the main fight. All the Nydus plays, all the units wasted trying to sneak into the main, it doesn't work. A handful of units either kills the worm or kills whatever comes out. Reynor doesn't learn, ever. He's the same player he was 7 years ago.

to be fair Reynor is so good it probably is more than a full-time job just to stay as good as he is I don't think most people will ever appreciate how much time and effort it takes to be in the top 5 in the world at anything

Watching Oliveira take the win makes my infested heart sad, but I dunno- kind of an oddly unaggressive Reynor (for his baseline) after game one. Nearly a 100 supply in drones and misclicked tech in game 4... this just wasn't Reynor's best showing. Still an amazing series by any standard!

unknow why reynor isnt as good as he was? the zerg nerfs that serral caused. like all the zerg players are no longer as good as they were cuz a lot of units are honestly ass now. late game zerg unless ur a god like serral, its gonna be tough.

Yeah, the nerfs hit Reynor hard. And it's not just him. This tournament, Dark got knocked out by Maru. Rogue got knocked out by Clem. Reynor got knocked out by Oliveira. 3 great Zerg players - all eliminated by Terran. In the last ESL Europe, there was no Zerg in the Half-Finals, the last Zerg Reynor got eliminated by Clem. (Serral was not participating) In the last GLS, Dark got knocked out in the group stage. Same with Solar. The ONLY Zerg who managed to advanced was Shin. Shin was knocked out in Group stage 2. No Zerg in the half finals. Since the last patch, Zerg (without Serral) isn't doing very well. No matter if we talk about Reynor, Dark or whoever. Zerg imba? Seems like when Serral is NOT around to beat everybody else, Zerg doesn't win very much any longer.

Every time Pro Terran players starts to build up Ghosts, i am like: "Ok this is it. I might as well rewind to next game". Yeah Serral is good and fun to watch but any other TvZ game is starting to be pain to watch.

It's also due the fact that Terran has a new power move. 3 base 8 baracks push with 2/2 finishing right before the start of the attack. Oliveira used this tactic 2 times against Serral at ESL Spring 2024 (4 days ago) and he used it now 2 times against Reynor. He won every game with it. It is very strong 3 base timing. I thought the caster called it a Octane barack push or something. It's a just a meta thing. If they look at the replays there are things to adjust to have enough power to stop the Terran push. Arround 6:30 Reynor starts allot of different upgrades and even goes for a double expand. If they know this push is coming, Zerg needs to upgrade melee and armor. Also make more lings/banes instead of drones. Perhaps an earlier scout on the racks (and reactors), check upgrades on the marines and if the engineering bay is processing. Have some lings or overlord at key points arround the map. Perhaps an macro hatch and 1 expand, instead of a double expand. So you get extra lings/banes. Be carefull to take upgrades you don't really use in the 6-8 min mark. After that take burrow etc...

And Oliveira and Maru are both realy strong player, why should they be beaten everytime by zerg, even if it is Dark or Reynor? They maybe toke longer to adjust to the New patch then terran but now i would say they do fine. Also Reynor struggled even before the patch and is now improving again, so i wouldn't say his lower Performance before this tournament is solely on the patch. Edit: Rogue was in military Service till a few months ago, so he propaply just needs time to get back to his level. And Dark specificly said he was not feeling to well that day

I can't wait to find out what's the game of the year of the day!

I think my favorite players for each race right now are Hero, Gumiho, and Reynor. Keep up the great work Winter, your replays are the best.

I WAS A WARCRAFT 3, BUT I LOVE THIS GAME TOO.

SPOILER high octane matches. Super interesting to see how it is all on a knife's edge. VS serral the ling got into the main just a tad earlier in the match and that meant there wasn't enough to close with like there was vs Reynor.

I think very few want to do clickbait, but it is just statistically true that it works. And honestly so long as you take the titles and thumbnails with a good deal of salt it isn't really an issue

Does anyone else love how Reynor manages to sneak 2 zerglings into CCPlayer's mineral line, kill 3 workers with 2 lings, finish a Nydus next to said mineral line, and then proceed to throw his main army, which happens to be right next to another Nydus, into a tank line instead of going into the Nydus and annihilating the bottom half of the map? It's almost as cool as Maru dancing his reapers behind CCPlayer's mineral line in the WCS finals and then putting them on hold position. Very gosu.

Watch ESL masters spring, best of 8 are 50% Zerg, best of 4 still 50% Zerg. Zerg seems to take a bit more time to adjust but then they do fine, atleast that is the case wirh the current Patch.

Top Terrans like maru are playing a different game than everyone else. In this same tournament, maru played serral after oliveira, and you can clearly see that maru wasn’t event trying. He just threw 0-4 because he didn’t have any intention of beating serral via practice or strategy. He just wanted to make Zerg look OP and nerfed. Korean terrans optimizing prize money by making their race look weak to secure buffs and reliable performance in tournaments even if it means giving up the #1 spot.

@@laureloneiros1500 that is such a stupid conspiacy theory. One the same level as the zerg cabal. If that would be the case, why is zerg still 50% of the best of 8 and 4? That is more than terran. And why would terran just give up the biggest prices of the tournaments with the biggest price pools. The prices are extremly top heavy, concentrated on a few tournaments. How many weekly cups do terrans need to win to make up for the loss of the price money difference of First and second place? 40? And that is just with the last tournament. That would be just a financial stupid move. And this doesn't even account for the fact, that it is a calculation on a group but if a single Player can gain from going against it, they profit more. Just makes no financial sense

Watched almost the entire tourney and was so hyped for Maru vs Serral. Spoiler alert, only to see Maru get smoked 4 to 0 against Serral. Like Olivera put up a great fight against Serral, he made him bleed and could have won. Maru just got rolled lol, oh well...
