10 Years On Mars is our new series documenting the Curiosity Rover's full 10 years on the Martian surface. In this episode, the rover almost lost permanent contact with NASA due to a memory issue with computer side A. Although the video is presented in the present tense to give you a feeling of following along with the rover, Curiosity has been using computer side B ever since this incident.

I wanted to reply to the people who say it's fake. I work for a company that sends radios into space (lunar and beyond). The amount of work that goes into just the radios is insane. We spend years just to get a unit working and well tested. Companies wouldn't spend millions (even sometimes billions) to just fake a product like this. It would be pointless to everyone involved. The engineering that goes into these types of designs is phenomenal we all should all recognize that fact, not antagonize it. We are one step closer to putting humans on Mars and I know I am looking forward to this achievement!

Skeptics are people living inside 4 walls, whatever goes in it will never have a chance to come out as if peeking outside with curiosity, questioning, absorbing new ideas with an open mind and welcoming new exciting knowledge , ideas. The skeptics already made out their minds. They are intransigent and narrowed minded based in old beliefs to the point of sounding unstable and paranoid.. we all should question and never accept the first thing we are told without facts.. however, when the facts are demonstrated an open mind will always welcome new ideas is futile.. skeptics suck the oxygen of any room, they are negative and exhausting

My Computer Science professor told us a funny thing about the pilot on Curiosity malfunctioning. Apparently the system they had on their computer was known before the mission to sometimes freeze. Author of the system even contacted NASA saying that it can randomly malfunction but they disregarded this. The problem they faced later was a consequence of that. They had to upload the fix to the system from Earth to Mars which took quite a long time because the interplanetary download speed is pretty slow :P

We should try to popularize space again, I think people like Elon Musk are doing a good job of bringing back that hopeful glimmer to people. But unfortunately many people are too preoccupied with other things, clouded with misery and hate. People say we should focus on our own planet but that to me is like saying "we should just focus on making a nice grave for ourselves for when we die". It is possible to keep our climate in check while still aiming for the stars and furthering humanity in a very real way, and not in a superficial social justice way. Without collective dreams as a whole, look at where we end up.

When you make a mars rover work an all nighter, it would want the engineers to leave it the heck alone and let it sleep 😴 just kidding! 🤣 I hope they can turn on pilot and let co pilot sit this one out! Always good to have a backup just in case of an emergency! Great video!
