10 year old boy removes Mesquite (tap root and all) without herbicides

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We have been looking for a way to remove small mesquite trees on our Central Texas property without herbicides. My son and I worked out a process that is really effective for removing the trees, root and all!!

Thank you for the complete instruction on Mesquite Tap roots, I have proof for not mowing and cutting the trees down at the ground. Very helpful video. The young man is getting skilled at important tasks.

This is a helpful video. With so many coming up in South Texas, I have been looking for ways to get the ones too small to use the tractor for. I don't want to dig holes 100 times to get these small ones out. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for the info! We're in the process of clearing some land to live on, and the mesquites are a pain

For those trying this now make sure the soil around the root is wet then it will pull up a lot easier

Always good to wear eye protection when removing mesquites and working around mesquite thorns.

Mesquite bush also make good quail habitat. If you let them grow and cut them down let the root grow big for future fire wood.

Mrpaint06 I never actually could get my hands on a rim because all the junkyards were closed due to CoVid19 but I did try it without the rim and it always just broke at the surface

I'm having problems with 2 full grown mesquites in my yard side yard. Mesquites are a pain in the behind. I'm trying to get someone out here on my property to cut both of them down, grind the stumps and pour a strong herbicide on what's left of the stump. But, I suspect, from your video that the tap root will likely try to come up somewhere else. Any suggestions?

Yes I have had 2 landscapers tell me you have to dig up the root and they don't want to try that!

These trees are hard to kill because of the long roots..

They are very hard to kill. We looked at using chemicals like Remedy and Sendero but these mesquites had been mowed over several times, so the root system is mature but the foliar area is very small. So rather than trying to use chemicals, we're using the manual method, which by the way has a 100% kill rate!

What type of knot is anchoring the rope to the rings?

Not much of a knot guy, so I'll likely get this wrong but I think they're just two overhand knots.
