Lita spoke about Stephanie in her book. Steph actually wanted to go into full wrestling training and be a credible ompetitor, but each time anything came up that put her in the ring, Vince nixed the idea and made it more angle than match. This was 2000-2001 and stephanie worked Lita & Trish, both decent enough matches for the time, and wanted more physical action. Stephanies "ring work" showed promise and her character was amazing. Vince mcmahon at play yet again.

I think we'd have to know the full context to really know who is right. Stephanie was solid in the ring back then, she kept it simple and somewhat aggressive, nothing too fancy so she didn't screw anything up, and it worked. If Stephanie wanted real training to become a more frequent in ring competitor, Vince was wrong to do that. But if the "training" she wanted was to learn to do easily botchable high spots, then he might have been right to tell her to stick to the basics.

2003 will always be nostalgic for me. Since the late 90s me and my childhood best friend would have sleep overs almost evedy week and watch raw and smackdown each week and record the ppvs on vhs so we could rewatch them countless times. By late 2003 we was in year 7 and slowly going our seperate ways about things. After survivor series 2003 which we recorded I dont think we ever watched another ppv again after that since his love for wrestling was gone shortly after

All examples of someone getting the time for promos in wrestling or hogging the spotlight as you say. Also whom in Raw could have been a better person to hold the belt and the spotlight? RVD? Goldberg? Test? Booker T? Y2J? Oh, I know Goldust. Lol Just because you didn't like him being on top or maybe you are one of those that thinks that Vince/Stephanie kept him there to spite us. Everyone else LEFT Rock, Austin, Hogan, and the list goes on. He along with Taker carried WWE for years.

@@CB-ci5ys In the attitude era, Triple H was still relatively young into his career, and he pretty much gave himself tenure for life with his brilliant mentality for being professional. He still had a lot more left in the tank so why wouldn't he consolidate his continued growth? Triple H and his apparent reign of terror is widespread internet bullying, end of.

From an entertainment perspective, not a problem at all. However, when speaking on driving storyline and overall narrative, it went off the rails quick, fast and in a hurry. Keep in mind, this was taking place while Smackdown was still being treated more as an extension of Raw and not its own entity. A ton of storyline suffered as a result.

I know “WWE ruined Goldberg” is the conventional wisdom, but WCW had already done that. Think about it, they took a guy who couldn’t work anything but five minute squashes and had zero mic skills, then said “let’s make him one of our top guys.” Then they not only gave him an undefeated streak, they started putting titles on him! Like, how do you book a guy who can basically only do one thing as your number one guy? Turns out the answer is to dress Scott Hall up as a security guard and give him a cattle prod.

The reason why WWE put Goldberg in longer matches and "exposed his weaknesses" was to SHOW EVERYONE how inferior WCW talents were in comparison to even the most average members of the WWE roster 😄

Mr. America... Taking an angle done well in the territories and using all the sublety of a sledgehammer to the face. it's not like Hogan just changing the colors of his feather boas to red white and blue wasn't enough, he had to lift up his mask and wink at the camera.

Why wouldn't they put Goldberg in longer matches? Obviously, when they signed him, both parties would have looked for a good relationship. Vince was looking for a guy he could depend on, not someone who needed several things to make stuff easy for him.

I kind of agree with you. Goldberg had 7 years of wrestling experience with him. He should have learnt how to put together a match but no. He never liked wrestling any way. So I never cared about HHH burying Bill.

Dude, Bischoff vs Shane was great stupid fun! Coach’s heel turn which subsequently resulted in Stone Cold stomping a colossal mud hole in him. JR and King were great too! This match shouldn’t be on this list.

It's funny. Scott Steiner throws out endless suplexes and he gets "Worst Match of The Year" talk. Brock Lesnar does it and he gets a gimmick and a bunch of T-Shirts. Maybe Steiner should have yelled "SUPLEX WORLD, WHORE!"

Triple H vs Scott Steiner at the Royal Rumble is why I just don't buy into WWE burying WCW guys because in this match the crowd clearly turns on Steiner. Freakzilla came in like a house on fire and made Triple H look scared, the man was built up like a champion only to be felled by his decreased ability to preform at a high level. And for those wondering why they did a take two be a planned angle was Steiner ti challenge Triple H at the Royal Rumble and dominate The Game so badly that he would create Evolution stave off Steiner. The two would meet at No Way Out and Evolution would interfere enough that Triple H would retain. Steiner would damned one more title shot at Wrestlemania and Triple H would demand Steiner put his career on the line only for Steiner to come out victorious. If the last part sounded familiar it was recycled for Triple H vs Goldberg. But because Steiner and Triple H was so bad they subbed Steiner out for Booker T at Mania hence the 5 time WCW champion not doing too much in the fued let alone winning the match because he wasn't designed to be in the plans originally.

At least Vince ended getting his own karma though a month later when Undertaker destroyed him at Survivor Series. That Stephanie match was horribly hard to watch and it was all to write Stephanie off for her and Triple H’s wedding. Overall, This year was pretty average . It was very bad for Raw but Great for Smackdown. Triple H really had a bad year in 03.
