Reed apparently did that when he was time travelling to the 1700s and just left them when the job was done, so he let them breed and grow their population to modern day. Talk about irresponsible.

The funny thing is, a lot of the horrible things Reed has done wouldn't happen if he had consulted his family and friends earlier. Or in the case of the Maker, if he had a family and friends in the first place.

I can't believe you'd mention the Council of Reeds and The Maker, and not talk about Marvel Zombies Reed Richards intentionally infecting the FF so they could infect him, and later opening a portal to an uninfected dimension. Granted, he was driven mad by the situation, but, still.

Making his best friend, his future wife and her brother join him on an unautoriced space mission in an experimental spacecraft. Even if I gave him the benefit of the doubt meaning I assume he didn't know about cosmic radiation, me must have known that such a mission is really dangerous - especially without support from Nasa and with only one of them being trained as a pilot. On top of that he could have gotten all 4 of them in all kinds of legal trouble with that stunt and tbh nobody except for himself would actually have benefitted from it.

But this is reality. These people have massive amounts of money and influence in the world. They invent things at the drop of a hat and can literally sway things to what they want. They are also not purely saintly characters so they can make mistakes with their philosophies. This is realistic and grounded which is Marvel's go to. Like the recent X-men stuff. It totally makes sense worldbuilding wise for it to be happening. What annoys me more is the lack of diversity of thinking, philosophies and care from individuals in the book due to these things taking place. Just cause the world's smartest and influential people do things doesn't mean others agree or don't fight or dissent.

Tony is the only one of those I consider a true hero. Xavier is a jerk now and has given up on his dream. Beast is practically insane. Hank Pym is Marvel's emotional punching bag. Edit: Reed also does some really shady stuff, but Marvel is trying to make him less sus by making him a good spouse and father.

All of these that aren’t from an alternate universe are not as bad as the creator of the list makes them out to be… except for the civil war stuff. That’s just the fault of horrible writing and mischaracterization.

It's almost like being designed to be a pastiche of the 60's man's man older gentleman scientist (those guys were everywhere. Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, War of the Worlds, Flash Gordon; to name some of the better ones) was a bad thing.

Honorable mention, becoming obsessed with the zombies of universe 2149 and then turning his fellow Fantastic Four members into zombies so he could be bitten and turned naturally.

It isn’t a surprise that Reed practically invented a trope or two. Him being a Hero was sheer luck. How many times shit got started because Reed was too much of a moron to install a safety switch or, you know...not going around opening random dimensional portals and leaving it open for anyone to come through on the other side?

I remember reading either masterwork fantastic four or the original secret wars where, if I’m remembering this correctly, Reed actually confesses he could figure out how to cure the thing if he tried. But instead he chose not to.

I mean, on worst of the multiverse... There's some other bad ones out there. The beardy one from the Council of Reeds with an infinity gauntlet was a literal Nazi, and the Zombie universe one deliberately infected his teammates (without their consent) , who then infected him in turn, because he believed after study that being a zombie was a superior form of life.

Reed isn't misogynistic he speaks to all people like they aren't as intelligent as him.

The Reed I grew up with was great. Everything got weird starting in the late 80s. It's kind of interesting: Golden Age (1938 - 1959) - Everyone sounds the same and everyone sounds perfectly pure and perfectly devoted to fighting evil. Silver Age (1960 - 1984) - Everyone starts finding things to complain about in life. Creep Age (1985 - Present) - Everyone stops being pure and everyone starts experimenting with evil. No more real heroes. I'm glad I was reading comics back when I did. They really were heroes back then.

Jimmy Stewart would be Reed Richards. Bert the cop would be the Thing. Donna Reed would be Sue Storm. The kid who played George Bailey as a youth, Robert J. Anderson, would be the human torch. Reed is still good. He saved the entire multiverse back in secret wars (2015). This list is just garbage writing moments in the character’s history. Reed is great.

So the Thor Clone was Reed Richards version of Abradolph Lincler.

Nah. Lincler was a victim in the midst of an identity crisis. Cloned Thor was just a murderous brute because Reed apparently didn't even think to program morality or restraint before sending his Thor into battle.

How in the blazes do you tell your family. That the thing that gave you your super powers. Is slowly killing them and at that time he had no clue how or if it could be cured and even how long on had to live and if using your super powers could even lessen the time they have left. Until he had more concrete answers to those questions. Reed did the right thing. In keeping quiet. How do you explain an idea that would give the characters in big bang theory a headache trying to follow some of Reed's more far out their ideas. Back then in the 60's Sue had maybe a freshmen worth of local college. Sue was never written to be Reed's mental equal. That being said. I did like the way they reworte the fantastic four's orgin story in the year long heroes age. Franklin's pocket universe series. Sue doesn't have to be as smart as reed. Her invisible force powers are on a very high power level. Which makes among the ten of fifteen most powerful female superheroes in marvel.

Their powers killing them was ever being disproved in some other comic or is it still a canon thing?

So imagine if a FF movie leaned into this instead of presenting him as bland... and if they had Doctor Doom who is almost a borderline hero (besides the taking over the world bit). It would be an interesting dynamic between hero and villain, and an interesting dynamic to explore between the FF. Shows like Breaking Bad prove that an audience can handle this kind of complexity, and FF definitely needs something as it tends to come across as generic in the movies.

After watching this list, it makes a lot of sense that Rick is based off Reeds.

So basically Reed Richard's is a character created on the pure idea of the pursuit or knowledge,disregarding the ramifications of what his pursuits might have. I gotta say there must be parable that sums up this type of way of living 🤔

Yeah, between the Lee run, the Byrne run, the Waid run and the Hickman runs alone, there is SO much. Hell, the fact that nobody has ever thought "Maybe we should actually build DOom up and then have their final clash resemble 'Unthinkable'", but no they just cram him in the first film as part of their origin (WHY do they keep taking from Ultimate Fantastic Four) and then have him defeated at the end of the first film

From what i can tell it's mostly because Fox rushed those movies so they could keep the movie rights to the Fantastic 4. Since Fox is owned by Disney now, Marvel might finally get a shot to make a Fantastic 4 movie themselves, but if they do then only time will tell if it will be any good.

I would’ve put what he did in marvel zombies on the list. He studied the virus and saw it as evolution and secretly injected it into the other fantastic 4 members, and had them bite him, turning them all into zombies.

I feel like in the current comics they should really bring up the previous abuse and show how they are actually working through it. Putting aside as if it never happened can be pretty detrimental if readers follow that kind of logic.

His worst weakness is his paranoia about being a Mr. Fantastic forced him to just thinking like Batman while always never think about consequences.

I never knew there was a Whatculture channel for comics. As far as I know, there's one for wrestling.

I think most of this stems from him thinking that only he could and should solve the problems.

What I love is that The Venture Bros has like - a Fantastic Four parody, and their version of Reed is like. BARELY a parody of main continuity Reed Richards.

I miss 1 very very very big bad thing he did: in the marvel zombie universe, he saw the virus as an evolution and injected all of the others of the fantastic four to give them 'the hunger'. After becoming a zombie himself he did also many bad things, but that was the hunger twisting his mind somewhat, while this first bad act was as himself totally normal making the world more doomed/taking away any chance of stopping the virus

This is why the Venture Bros had their version of Reed and Susan get divorced. *-_-*

I was surprised to see that Reed purposely infecting his team in Marvel Zombies Dead Days wasn't on here
