10 Ways Your Labor Nurse Wants You To Prepare for the Postpartum Period
Фильм және анимация
Hello all you beautiful birthing people! Today's video is all about preparing for the postpartum period. A period of time that is much longer than labor, but gets little thought as we prepare for the birth of our children. I am going to go over treatment for tears and hemorrhoids, cesarean recovery, support for your breast if your breast or formula feeding, the importance of rest, hydration, nutrition and supplementation for recovery, monitoring your mental health and other warning signs, creating your village and finding community resources.
Definitely let me know if you have any other ideas for postpartum support in the comments below. I have found this community is a great little village of support!

Loved the video! I’m 19 weeks today and I now realize how lucky I am to be part of a church where every woman who give birth is blessed with a homemade meal for the family, provided from the other families of the church, for a whole month after they give birth! It is so helpful!

Yes! Love the meal train! I’ve been meal prepping a ton but I know some fresh meals that aren’t warmed from frozen will be very welcome.
Those mesh undies actually go through the washer and dryer pretty well! I washed and reused mine until I was done bleeding postpartum completely so that I didn't have to ruin my regular undies. :)

That’s awesome to hear! We have an old school nurse that hand washes them and hands them up to dry in the room.
Just had my daughter on the 4th. People have asked a bunch if I need anything and my auto response has become 'we'd love a freezer meal.' It has been such a blessing! It's help where I need help and I am soo grateful.

My sister in law and mother in law offered to make me some casseroles and maybe even meal prep some things for me in the weeks following the birth and they offered to come help with baby or chores or whatever I need so I can get sleep or a shower. I'm so glad I've got them.
Had my second baby two weeks ago and actually didn’t end up with any hemorrhoids this time at all! I think I was even more excited about that than the new baby lol

I hope things go much more smoothly with baby #2. It’s so easy to lose yourself in the postpartum period. I’ve definitely struggled with that too. 💗
I’m 9 weeks postpartum with my first. One suggestion I have is set up a snack station on your nightstand and wherever you’re going to be spending time nursing. Easy one handed items like fruit leather and nuts, plus water bottles, have been a lifesaver when I feel trapped under a nursing/sleeping baby and get hungry or thirsty.

Not sure if you have done this if so please let me know! You should do a video on dads/ husbands/ significant other video for what to expect and how to help... or even just an informational video that just breaks down everything but geared towards the partner. I just wanna quickly mention that glittery eyeshadow looks perfect on you.
Thank you for this video! I’m sure so many pregnant moms can benefit from it! I am 8 weeks postpartum, and as much as I thought I was prepared, I really was not! Another tip I’d say, is to test out and get used to your products. Most of our things were neatly stored in boxes until after we came home from the hospital. This was not ideal when trying to figure out how to use the bottle sterilizer and warmer, swaddle sacks, baby carriers, etc. We were already in fight or flight trying to figure out how to take care of a baby, and figuring out how the products worked was such an added step and stress!
This is such a great video, I wish I’d watched something like it before I had my daughter. The postpartum period hit me like a train, I had no idea how rough it was gonna be, to say the least. I’m 8mos into my journey as a mama and I’m just now feeling like I’ve stepped out of the postpartum fog. PPD, Anxiety, recovering from a c-section and caring for a preemie, it was just wild, but it also flew by so fast! So thankful for my family and the doctors who helped me postpartum. If you’re feeling like garbage postpartum, hang in there, be kind to yourself and to the amazing body that brought your baby into the world. 💕
Thanks for sharing your pregnancy content. It’s helped answer a lot of questions I didn’t know I had. You’re a wonderful resource for us motherless wanna be moms.
I'm so glad you made this video for future moms!! More time needs to be spent on recovery for moms. It's also important for your partner to know how they will need to step up and give you time to take care of yourself. I'm 20 weeks postpartum and it would have been extremely helpful because I felt completely unprepared. I do recommend the Frida mom pads, boy shorts, and cooling pads but not the foam if you can afford them. For bras I also recommend the kindred bravely French terry cloth bra. It is super soft against your extremely sensitive parts! I also recommend going to the doctor if you think anything is wrong. They had only phone visits during Covid but I knew something wasn't right and it turned out I had a stitch come out too early leading to granulation tissue that they needed to treat with silver nitrate. It was painful but I'm glad I went in because it could have got infected. Always just trust your gut!

All of this is so helpful. My second is due in February and I wanted to get some reminders and recommendations. Also, your makeup in this is gorgeous. Love these colors on you!
Thank you so much for discussing mental health/medication 💗 my doctor in France took me off Zoloft and I was terrified of the outcome. Got back to the states a couple weeks ago and trying to get all my appointments scheduled so I can get back on them as I have not been feeling that great lately. I'm 36+4 with my first baby. I'm 36 and I have Lupus so I'm really glad I'm able to be around my family during this time! 💗
Thank you for the mom focused advice! We have some leftover Amazon gift card funds from our registry I was gonna save for baby stuff later but you’ve encouraged me to use it on postpartum care for myself ❤️
Your videos are always such a pleasure to watch. Thank you for putting this one together especially. Like you said, I was prepared for birth, but nothing after. I wish I had been better prepared as a FTM, but no one told me and I didn't think to ask. As a STM after 7.5 years, I'm approaching things very differently - basically as if I'm a FTM again. So this time I have 1) taken an online Childbirth Prep class, 2) taken an online Breastfeeding class, and 3) watched several Postpartum prep videos. I'm also reading books on the same subjects and have created a virtual support circle of local women who have given birth within the last year. I actually feel like the preparation I've done this time will give me a better chance of dodging many of the issues that contributed to PPA after the birth of my first. Ladies, if you're pg, do the research now. You won't have time or energy to just look it up once babe is here. Trust me on this.
I’m surprised you don’t have more subscribers, your videos are like the most useful on birth and pregnancy on KZread

3 weeks PP with my second son, as well. This video is so true. I keep thinking I need to keep up with all the laundry, dishes and other cleaning. But allowing myself some grace during these first few weeks post L & D is just as important, if not more. Instead of doing everything in a day, I plan out a task or 2 per day for the week. @@mackenzie-deltadurocher thank you so much! This birth was such a different experience from my first son. My first I call slow and steady as my labor was long and intervention filled. Firstly, thank you 🙏🏻 I’m 3weeks pp & I was literally telling a friend last night that I did so much research and prep for L&D but have been completely blindsided by my pp experience. Really great advice, and something I don't think we really think about enough, as you said, we tend to focus so hard on labour that the postpartum period gets a bit forgotten about until your there, I know this was the case for me with my first son, I honestly thought I was going to die from lack of sleep, had not planned well😆
I love your attitude. I also LOVE your information. I thought I LOVED my hospital and my birthing experiences (2) at my hospital, however after watching (literally, binging) your videos, I feel so disappointed in my hospital and the complete lack of care that was provided to me and my body/experience. I was 19 with my first, 21 with my second and my husband was there to support me 100%, but the nurses and doctors basically skipped over ALL education and decision making and did not consult me on my own care, assuming now due to my age. That is SO frustrating and infuriating, even 6 years later. I WISH you could rub off on all nurses- your passion is what makes you a wonderful nurse and mother-to-mother instructor. ❤️
I am so glad I discovered you. Your videos are amazing !
I LOVE that color on you but I keep remembering that sweater being used as a cervix on one of your older videos 😁 I love your channel & haven’t missed a single video even when they don’t necessarily apply to me. I am currently 6months pregnant with baby number 2 so rewatching many of your videos!
I love your videos. I have 3 children ages 13,5 and 3. I lost my 4th child, a son at 12 weeks pregnant 10/9. I was due 4/28 with him 😞 I’m Newly pregnant again And due 9/12 and love your videos! I watched them while pregnant with him and now watch them with my new pregnancy 🤰🏼. Happy and healthy 9 months for both of our rainbows!
I'm so thankful I found your videos. I'm 37 weeks pregnant of my first baby girl and I have to admit I feel more scared of the postpartum than the delivery or even breastfeeding, but checking your advice helps me a lot to calm myself down.

Thanks for mentioning the pelvic floor PT. I haven't given birth yet, but seeing one has been key in making sure that I can still go to work and function mostly normally during 2nd and 3rd trimesters. A lot of things that I thought were common and ergo okay in pregnancy are actually easily fixable ( lightning crotch, painful Braxton hicks, back pain, hip and joint pain etc.). If you are experiencing any sort of discomfort, mention it to your OB and ask about a PT before pain meds because the exercise works way better than pain medication usually.

I mean, they kind of do too, but not what I meant 😂🤦🏼♀️
I really recommend the fridamom postpartum underwear! I don’t think the whole kit is really necessary, but those disposable underwear were way more comfortable (in my opinion) than the hospital ones. I also recommend adult diapers. It was much easier for me. ALSO. If you’re constipated, ASK FOR A SUPPOSITORY. Don’t be embarrassed, they work well and you will feel better.
I am laughing so hard! This was a very enjoyable video. You really did a great job keeping this video light 👍🏻
So happy that you shared postpartum both vaginally & via c-section! Thank you!

So close!!
This was amazing! Thank you!
Not sure if you’ve had any experience with this, but I used the always brand pads with my first. They were okay the first couple of days but started itching so bad. I thought I was getting an infection. I did a little research and found out they were trapping too much moister and not really absorbing. I tried Kotex as I saw suggested online somewhere, and it made a MAJOR difference! Not sure the difference on how they are made, but it felt so much better and the itching stopped 🙌🏻 Seeing the always ones in your video, wanted to share 💗 Also, thanks so much for making all of these videos!! Due with baby #2 in March. I’ve been binge watching. They’ve been so helpful!
You are so helpful. I just had my son two months ago as of the 13th and it’s been a wild ride. ❤️

As a plus sized mom of 5, I suggest getting Depends. They gave me much more coverage and felt more secure in that first week. (I even used a Depends + a maxi pad!) They were also much cheaper tham having to go out and purchase new panties after ruining my other panties because the pad didn't protect well enough. After that, I felt more comfortable using the Always size 5 pads. I adore your videos and have recommended you often to the new mamas I know. I wish I had found you earlier. I am done having babies but still learn so much and enjoy each one! Thank you for your ministry! Smiles, Abby Smith
