If it's ok to suggest, Drawing wiff Waffles is amazing at constantly creating drawing prompts for sketchbooks. Mostly character design but in the past they have made challenges of creating characters from types of candy, colors, ,etc. They even discuss their thinking process while doing it.

I also came here to suggest Drawing Wiff Waffles. I don't copy their style at all but their PROCESS has been so inspiring to me. I've never had any kind of art tuition so seeing how artists put together a piece by doing things such as swatching or making thumbnails has been really useful for me.

@@tanadams yes! I love the way they really break down their thought process as they work. And even admit when something isn't working or didn't turn out as planned.

omg I love her, she literally raised me & helped me continue drawing back in 2019
So, from the perspective of a dopamine chasing ADHDer, I get super excited when I come up with an idea, but either forget it or I just lose the juice for it when I can site down and draw it. So what I started doing (and I can't believe this actually works, things never work for me) is a notebook with like 20 lines (not more, as to not get overwhelmed, super important) and writing down the ideas as soon as they pop up. I have 4 columns as a standard on every one of these pages: topics, colours, medium and styles. For topics I have things like - cats, 60s fashion, teapots, organs(anatomy), local buildings etc. For colours it's things like B&W, greens, secondary, muted, pinterest colourscheme etc. Medium is then watercolours, markers, oil pastels, gouache+pencil etc. Styles is then realistic, focus on light, comic book, draw over printed pages, negative space etc. If I have zero idea of what to do, I just randomize all of these by closing my eyes and seeing what my pen lands on. Now here is what actually helps me in this case: NOT sticking to the prompt a 100% :) So I just 'chase the dopamine', see whatever hits best at that moment to get me excited. Sometimes I even leave out a whole column if I don't feel the prompt, just really based on what I feel like practicing in that moment- so if I want to focus on analyzing negative space as a style, I don't focus much on the colour schemes and mediums. When I wanted to try and work with blending techniques with alcohol markers, I chose what is easier for me (forest animals), I picked a colour scheme that helped ease blending (like greens) and for the fun of it, threw in negative space. I know it's a whole story, but this is really one of the few things that actually got me practicing and using sketchbooks while actually having fun. It helps me not lose any of my ideas, I can be still spontaneous and focus on that on one particular thing. Everything goes and just don't force yourself to comply with your own rules :)

same its kinda unnerving lol
Something I can add to the list is watching a favourite movie and drawing key scenes from it. Or even drawing the characters or fan art of whatever movie, show or book you might be checking out. Today my mate suggested I draw my take on Monkey City from the 90s live action Jungle Book.

Oooh noice one okayyy!
the changing locations one can have such a big impact!! I wandered around my town last summer, went on walks, back to scool to drink a hot cocoa, back in town to go to the park, all that, and I filled a sketchbook in 2 months!! that's the fastest I've ever been and it's one of my absolute favourites too! I just carried around a little watercolor palette, a few colored pencils and my pencil case. do it, it's such a game changer!
POV: You’re watching this even though you’ve filled ten sketchbooks in 3 years 😂. No the fr thank you for this, can’t hurt to have more ideas ❤

This is terrific advice! We all need an assignment or some external prompt to get us going- artists just graduating from school have a tough time adjusting to self-directed work, but everybody really can from time to time. We think a sketchbook should be a pressure-free zone. Nearly every one is going to have a few stinkers and a few gems, but even (maybe especially) the awkward sketches can have the germ of an idea that can be developed later. These suggestions are wonderful encouragement for anyone who needs a push in the right direction!
Also, we agree completely about still life and self-portrait, the 2 most accessible subjects for working from direct observation. Cezanne recommended painting your stovepipe to learn light, shade, and volume, and while most of us don't have those any longer, there are plenty of cylinders, boxes, spheres, and other shapes around us all the time.
POV: you watch these videos when you’ve never filled a sketchbook because your adhd won’t let you
needed this !! having some severe sketchbook art block atm
I love all of them!! Sadly with the self portrait i have face dismorphia so I always look different and bad lol
These are so helpful, I have artblock rn and I might just go hunt my dog down and draw her. What also helped me in the past to fill my sketchbooks when I didn't know what to draw was redrawing sketches from my old ones to see where I improved. I also started to share a sketchbook with my best friend because she always had trouble filling sketchbooks so we just started one together. Everyone had it for a week and filled a spread and then we swapped it again and by now we are almost finished with it XDD
drawing with someone else can be a lot of fun, and sharing supplies is great to since some of them might be new to you🙂
Your awesome! Continue your art, we love you ❤️ Keep on thriving Al!
I really love listening to your videos while I’m drawing and doing art. It feels like we’re hanging out and doing art together!
I'm definitely going to try these out very soon❤️thank you for the lovely ideas
These are all great ideas!! I really need to try doing color blobs again, I haven't tried it since middle school but it looks so fun!One thing I like to do is keep a journal for writing down art ideas, challenges, prompts, etc to go back to whenever I need inspiration! It's especially useful for when I have periods of lots of inspiration but not enough time to actually execute all my ideas (it's also fun looking back and trying to decipher what I meant with some of the prompts 💀)
Your hair looks amazing ❤
You are my go-to background youtuber to listen to while I draw ☺️ srsly you are so inspiring.
YES pls make another one this was sm fun and v helpful
Hell yea! I’m so stoked I found your channel. I’m currently sitting in bed trying to get some art inspo. Then I see this 😍😍
Loved this! Saved this video for when I need it. If you say you’ve got more ideas I’d love to hear them! Keep ‘em coming!
I’m going to rewatch this video every time I get art block! Thank you so much 🫶🏼
Kitchen on a Sunday afternoon in a small village near a small village called a little town in central New Hampshire that has been known to have the best restaurants in the city and a lot of the food is made of the best quality
I always love these, I never know what to draw in my sketchbooks!
These are really great ideas! I want so bad to work on portraits because it's my dream to have a sketchbook full of portraits and do the 100 heads challenge 😊💕 Thanks for the great video!
My favorite thing to draw is birds in the art style hyper-realism (as an example crows is a big one, house finches, owls, tropical birds da like peacocks and flamingos, parrots, and I’m working on a phenix
i love your videos!!
Excellent ideas thank you!
Please do a pt 2
are those Lawrence lyrics at 6:14? Heck yeah! These are some great ideas, I'm especially excited to try the limited art supplies one. The example spreads you showed looked so good, with the black, yellow and red all together!
Omg I was literally watching your last video as this got posted
Im honestly so bad at filling sketchbooks, this was really helpful 🤣❤️
Thank you !
This was a really good video, please do a part 2😀😀😀
Ilysm!
Great tips! I just tried the blobs today for the first time (odd coincidence) I meant to try it for a while and was simultaneously surprised by how hard it was to come up with ideas, but how easy it was to then draw those ideas… if you know what I mean 😂
This helped so much!!!😁😁
You just earned yourself a new subscriber😊
Gonna watch later
❤️❤️❤️
i was literally just wondering how i was gonna finish the last 10-15 pages of my sketchbook😅✨
*Everybody finished at least 5 sketchbooks in a year* *Me crying in the corner because I can’t even finished ONE sketchbook in a year*
lez go i came here bc of katara
Me watching this knowing I have an obsession with wanting to draw but no time so it’s not for lack of ideas that I never finish but bc my life responsibilities don’t allow me to sit down to draw for sh 😢
«Sorry I missed church. I was busy practicing witchcraft and becoming a lesbian» is now my favorite quote. Is that abuelita from one day at a time?
I live in the UK is there anywhere I can buy this sketchbook without it costing me like £50 from America
SEND MORE IDEAS. :D
So is using the same poses from other artists okay, or is it still stealing, I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about it.
Why talk about filling your sketchbook as if that were an accomplishment?? Once it's filled it just means you'll have to go to the bother of getting a new one and starting fresh on the first page. The point is to USE your sketchbook, not to fill it.
