🔥 DAW plugins vs purchased plugins? What do you think?
@priawanwibisono2261
3 жыл бұрын
As a beginner I tried to focus with stock plugin first. While there are Serum or Echoboy, I'll stick with Wavetable and Echo to really master it first. Even I still don't understand some plugin specifically compressor, I can't tell the difference from your video (maybe because I'm using phone speaker). But I heard Glue Compressor is nice enough so I don't need buy anything. Oh, maybe vocal processor though, I'm eyeing Ovox or Vocalsynth and waiting real discount

It depends. For example, I use Presonus’s fat channel a lot for recording. But when I mix I primarily use Plugin Alliance, Izotope, and Soundtoys. Almost all of my instrument plugins are purchased (Arturia V collection, Korg Triton, Spitfire Audio, and Ample Sound)

I love ableton and its plugins but visually the aren’t so nice and you can’t float or resize them... my eyes aren’t so great and they can be hard for me to read for this reason I use mostly 3rd party aside from eq8 and auto filter..... however I will say the max for live lfo tool has become necessity for me

For instruments I'd go without doubt for external plugins. For effects I think is okay to start with stock plugins, and also they have better cpu usage. But with the time, I think is really nice to try external plugins to improve workflow, discovering new sounds and stay creative 😄
I love how quick paced this video is, no time wasted, straight to the point. 🔥🔥 10/10. Always waves reverb is pretty killer
My favorite Synths are Harmor, Union, Orb Synth, Vital, and Iris 2. There's something about Granular Synthesis that's always captivated me, which is why I love Iris so much. And I love Harmor (and Morphine for that matter) for the Resynthesis capabilities. WaveTable and FM Synthesis is neat as well, which is why I also want to recommend Hybrid 3.
I love this guy, all his videos are very high quality, and he never says anything you don’t need to hear, right to the point but not vague. Also love his vibe in general. Great channel
Valhalla VintageVerb is fantastic - first $50 I spent without hesitation after trying the demo. It's so incredibly flexible and sounds super clean, I have no doubt I'll use it in every project I ever make.
You're easy to listen to. You present the material in a lucid, informative manner. Professional, creative you make learning easy! Thanks for your blessing!
Ozone took production to another level Nexus helps with generating ideas and speed It’s amazing what we can do these days

@@fredriksvard2603 just curious. What do you hate about it? Sound, interface, presets, all the above?
Thanks Sanjay!! Always on spot, and the friendliest presentation. It feels like home instead of a classroom!
Thanks for putting this interesting and informative video together 🙂 I think mixing utility plug-ins is another good category to add (e.g., Metric A/B for a spectrum analyzer, loudness meter, and mix comparison; Sonarworks Reference for monitor/headphone correction; and GHz Can Opener for making headphones behave more like monitors).

Haha! School first, Sanjay C next!!
Favourite Synth Sanjay is also my newest purchase, Viper. By far the best synth i've used for Hardstyle / Rave Big Room and for people who are just getting into sound design it's perfect, very easy to use. Also, as it's ( relatively ) new it's being updated and growing which means soon it'll be a competitor for any synth out there imo. Definitely more for the Harder styles but in this category, and for me personally , the best!
LOVE my arturia plugs...Pigment is LUSCIOUS, and I can pretty much get any sound out of it that i want very easily.
Excellent video. Love the previews of the different plugins and what they do.
My fav plugin in SERUM. Very easy to use, powerful, quick and light[er].
my favorite synth plugin is digits, it's a phase distortion synth that models the casio cz line and it has a really interesting and unique workflow that can create great and Interesting sounds. usually I'm wary of weird free plugins because they tend to be not great, but this one definitely is great.
Your videos are just amazing! Thank you for always giving us great content. You are an inspiration.

Pigments doesn't get enough credit for how good of a synth it is. I was happy to see it at your #1 spot! It has a great granular synth in it, great wavetable control (not as good as serum but still good), and a huge sample library that comes with it full of one shot guitars pianos, ethnic plucked instruments, strings, foley, voice, drums, etc that are ready to go for processing. Color coded parameters is also a huge QOL I didn't know I needed and wish I had in my other main synths I use. The best part about it is that is has one of the best integrated arpeggiators I've used in any synth and is my go-to when making any arps. Huge control of individual glide, gate, and velocity steps. Capable of polyrhythmic timing of each of those parameters. And an swing knob that works in percentages instead of just on/off so it's easy to sync to my project's swing level. I haven't touched the Ableton stock arp since getting Pigments on release! Definitely worth it for just that.

Compared to Khs Phaseplant, it's literally nothing. Might as well use Massive X at that point lol .. I mean... don't. It's shit. But Pigments doesn't have half the features of Phaseplant. Hell, Harmor came out years ago, and I'd say that's also far better.
Thanks for explaining it really well! I've been putting off learning soft soft cuz it looks so intimidating but now that I easily understood the

With Surge and Vital synths for free, they compare and are in some cases better than Pigments or Massive. Vital has very similar visual modulation UI, which helps a ton when creating patches. They will become more and more popular over time.

I like plugins from Analog Obsession, they,re free yes but they model so many great vintage analog and as somebody who used a lot of waves stuff and ssl stuff before I left the studio I was working at, compared to those analog obsession stuff especially the LOADED 500 series vst and the BUSTERe which is an SSL bus comp emulation are excellent
Awesome picks!

Brillaint job usual.. @sanjay - I am comfortable with the instruments aspect of production but now looking to add vocals to my compositions. As I am still a beginner, understanding compressor etc is a bit tricky. Is there a good software, where I can see the waves visually. I guess that would help me learn and understand much better.
