10 Uke Demo - Brand Spotlight: Córdoba Ukuleles

Today I wanted to spotlight Córdoba ukuleles. I've included soundbites, specs, and my personal thoughts about these ukuleles from most affordable to high end. This video is not sponsored.
In designing its ukulele series, Córdoba traced the instrument back to its heritage, which is the Portuguese Braguinha. It’s also known by its other names: machete de braga and the cavaquinho. Córdoba began building in Portugal with period-appropriate methods and body woods before learning where they could innovate for better tone, playability, and affordability.
Note: The MSRP prices listed in this video may differ from dealer to dealer. The MSRP is the price the auto manufacturer suggests the dealer charge the consumer for the product.

Hi everyone! Thanks for your patience! I had it ready yesterday, but I needed more time to double check a few things. I played the same ditty so that you could fast forward or rewind to compare the different models side by side. Love you!

I really like that you did this type of video. So many times when one is looking / wanting something it is helpful to have not only the viewing of the instruments but hearing them play. So many places just don't have good quality and well stocked music stores that one can go in and try out things. Some times going into a music store is intimating when you don't really know what exactly you are looking for. I have looked at the Cordobas so many times online and have almost ordered one; the 15 in a tenor size especially. There is such a huge range of reviews and comments. Love the simple detailing on the Cordobas. I have been wanting a solid top mahogany uke. Please do more of these, so helpful.

Wonderful overview of so many models in a variety of price categories. A showcase for different choices in wood, spruce tops, mahogany tops, etc with an excellent explanation of what each contributes to tonal quality. In future it would be nice to see the inclusion of baritone ukuleles for those of us that enjoy the tonal qualities of a more 'full bodied' instrument. Thank you for this review of the Cordoba line of instruments, it really gives me something to ponder. I love the fact that the fretboard is bonded, hate 'fret sprout'! Cheers!!

I love my 15 CM-E! That thing holds its tune like nothing else I've experienced. If you are starting out get the 15 series. I love that you reviewed the spruce top 21 series. There is not a lot of reviews on that model on it on the youtubes. It was great to hear it compared with the others. In fact, that is next on my ukulele wish list. Thanks you for doing a brand comparison. It was great.

Katie, I enjoy all your vids. I have a 25tce on the way for Christmas (mainly because of your review and if it’s good enough for you, it’ll dang sure be good enough for anything I ever do). I have a tenor already (solid koa in low G) and want another so that I can keep one in re-entrant and one in low G. I realized some time ago that one doesn’t need to spend thousands for high quality instruments. With a proper setup, I’ll be very happy and it has electronics so won’t have to install one after the fact. Keep up the good work! God Bless.

I am a beginner ukulele player. I learned to play on a pretty cheap beginner soprano and needed more room on the fretboard and warmer sound so I have been researching concert ukes. Your videos have been extremely helpful and watching you play is exquisite. You give every model equal attention and I can tell you just love playing. You have me considering tenors now. I am petite (5’0”) so I thought I needed a concert at the biggest but some of the tenors you’ve played have such a great sound. I do love the look of the Cordobas with the abalone around soundboard and the binding. My favorite you played on this video was the 35 T. Of course one one of your previous videos you played a Tunnel 13 and if I hit the lottery that one would be my first choice lol. Ty for helping me figure out all of my must haves and explaining different features so well. I’m so grateful I came across your channel.

I comoared it to another highly recommended brand at a similar price. The 30T-CE was far superior in all aspects. I am looking forward to enjoying this wonderful instrument for many years to come. And, the deluxe foam case is outstanding and will definitely protect the 30T-CE!

You are so right about Cordoba feeling like home. I have an 20SM and 20TMCE plus an Ohana 38k (all solid mahogany soprano). The Ohana is set up well . It is much louder than the 20SM (solid top mahogany soprano)and definitely has more bark. However, the feel of the Cordoba neck and sweeter tone makes it more enjoyable to play. Also their subtle details such as tie block, inlays and slightly rounded frets for this price point are outstanding. The 20TM tenor cutaway was my first Ukulele and the tone has just got better and better over the years. Fluorocarbon strings are the way to go with both. Thank you for doing this review!

Hi Katie, and thanks for the great review. Based on your review, yet unknowingly, I ended up buying the exact Cordoba 35T that is shown in your video, and it's a great instrument. I compared the 35T-CE with cutaway and the 35T, and the 35T made a big difference to me (Not so much because of the cutaway but I believe the wood just happened to be better on this particular 35T. I have since lowered the string action a bit, and I'm still considering to put other type strings on (less heavy/ thick strings). This uke is now my favorite "fingerpicking" uke. I still use my older Cordoba 25-CK for strumming (easier to play and better sound on lower frets). Not crazy about the "Made in China" sticker but I was looking for a high quality budget instrument (which it is), as there wasn't much to chose from between the $200 and $1200 range. Please let me know if you have any type of string recommendations, and thanks again for your singing review.

I’m so happy that this helped, and that’s a great question. I think it all boils down to size because size will play a huge factor as far as comfort and playability. I made two really in depth videos for people looking to purchase a uke and there are lots of sound samples and options. Hoped that will help you make a decision.

I checked ur church. The reviews say that this is a gospel preaching church! Finding a church that preaches the gospel is hard to find anywhere! Good for u ! Serve Him with all u have, His coming back is very, very close ! What a great incouragement the thought heaven brings to our soul !! On another note I c u teach music, do u sell instruments also ? If I may ask,, do u think that the Córdoba 15TM-CE is the best I can buy for $144 r do u fell that there would b a better brand & model? I hope u don’t think that I am out of line asking this. In our Savior’ s service, b safe !!

Nope, not at all. I teach out of a store called Heid Music. I do love Córdoba. You might like to try Ohana, Lanikai, or Kala ukuleles. I do have quite a bit of those brands that I’ve reviewed on my channel and in the uke buyers guide that I sent you. Is there one that stood out to you?

Imo... I feel Cordoba brand makes every guitar and uku with the same quality and care, no matter the model. Whether it's a starter kit, or a high-end.. the quality is seen in the small details. Stick a GoPro inside a 15t and then any other 50-150$ uku on the market and you'll see what I mean. What does that mean for us though? It means that the uku or guitar you learned on with an entry level is good enough to follow you through your musical journey in life. So many times I've seen people "grow out of" their instruments, because their entry level isn't good enough for jam sessions, records or gigs. I feel that true Cordoba fans never trade in or upgrade their instrument, they just add another Axe to their arsenal. Like you mentioned.. maybe you now need one with electronics or a cut away, or different size.

I really appreciate you sharing your honest thoughts. Truth be told, if the $2000 uke spoke to you, you should be happy with that one. It sounds like it was one of the special Ks (Kaniela, Koaloha, Kamaka). If it feels like home to you, it doesn't matter what other ukes you encounter:). You found your baby. The 25 C is nice, but something that costs what you have probably has much better tone wood and higher end finishes. What did you purchase. I'm curious.

I'm very familiar with Kanilea, and they do great work. You didn't waste your money at all supporting such a great company. Kalei is amazing, and I have such great respect for him. I know what you mean. It's can be really inspiring and yet heartbreaking to witness such talent. I feel your pain. I'm teaching a uke camp with some amazingly talented people in a couple of weeks, and I have to perform right along side of them :). Enjoy the instrument, play it, and keep going. Just keep in mind that no one has "arrived". I have to tell myself that as well.
