Yeah, that was for sure the worst for the fighters pay overall. Really makes fighters trapped and relying entirely on there contract to pay them for fighting. 1) the Reebok deal and loss of sponsorships 2) changing to the Legacy Championship in 2018 from the UFC version of The Big Gold Belt (I swear I didn't skip ahead naming these they were completely coincidental)
What I really miss all the Fight Pass exclusive cards not that fight pass isn't worth only nowadays but back then it kind of made the incentive to do so that much sweeter when they added the exclusive cards
To tie in with getting rid of face the pain, I think a lot of that generally ties into the change in the UFC’s business model which seems to have turned off a fair chunk of OG fans. What a lot of fans seemed to like back in the day was that UFC/MMA had a real counter culture vibe about it. Where boxing had become all about money fights, cherry picking opponents and a litany of questionable decisions, UFC and MMA fighters were gladiators. The bear wanted to fight the best and it didn’t feel so money oriented. These guys weren’t just prize fighters, they were martial artists. The fact that it had risen so quickly especially after all the shit they got in the beginning and fighting to be recognised as a legit sport, I think resonated with a lot of fans of punk and metal because these genres got similar shit too. But since MMA has become more mainstream, it feels like a lot of earlier quirks have been discarded by UFC as well in an attempt to appeal more to the masses. But also a lot more of the problems that plague modern boxing have started spilling over to the UFC as well. There’s been so much more talk of money fights that never was before. Guys cutting in line for title shots over higher ranked guys because that’s what’ll sell, McGregor being allowed to hold the belt hostage for well over a year. Dana White who once upon a time while clearly still a dick, at least stuck to his guns now flip flops on so much shit based on whether it would sacrifice his money-making ability. When money plays too much of a role the sport suffers.
@brennenspice6098

I see your point but I disagree. Old ufc as fun as it was has really not aged all that well, and many of the og fighters were more mental fighters than they were actual athletes. Now that the sport has garnered the attention in the umbrella of athleticism we have overall objectively better fighters, and with that the reality is that often times you don't havs to be a hardass meatball stereotype to kickass. Old ufc to me was more rap rock or nu-metal than it was punk honestly.

Ik the apex was built to hold fight cards without the COVID restrictions being broken by inviting a crowd of fans to watch, but it amazes me that Dana didn't have it built to eventually hold fans when the restrictions were lifted, or that he hasn't already started construction for it to hold fans since they could turn it into the perfect arena for the UFC and make millions from it

It wasnt built to holds cards during covid, it happened to be near completion as they entered lock down, it is built to hold a small crowd and be used for shows like TUF, other promotions on fight pass, and small crowd ufc events. They should do grappling only events at the Apex. It's a paycheck, it promotes fighters, lower risk for fighters since they aren't taking strikes to the face, they don't have to prepare as vigorously, and fighters wouldn't be putting their record or rank on the line. Fury Pro Grappling 6 was fun.
The WWE gimmick name ideas for the PPVs could've worked if they added numbers with the names every year like how WWE keeps track of the WrestleManias

There is a site where you can watch it 1080p, and every fight comes 1-1:30h after it had happened , not enough time to get spoiled because mostly everybody is sleeping (the main card starts usualy around 4am where I live and the fight of the night is usually around 7) so what that meens is not only does it not make sence to pay for it if youre living in this region, but by relying on this site what saves the fights as well and categories them (by date and organization of happening) Im actually forced to get a good nights sleep and watch the whole thing first time in the morning. You just cant say no to that unless your career depends on it like yours making this awesome content for us. That being said, sorry Tommy hope you hate us a bit less with this apology 😅 amazing video like always!!!

Undisputed 3 is the goat. Fighters felt so unique because you could individually go in and change the move sets for a created fighter. If you wanted to really focus on certain strikes you could, you could give a better personality in my opinion
I loved when dana rolled out a literal box of cash for some youtubers who were already quite wealthy. While simultaneously paying his fights bread crumbs

Did I hear you say the old belts cost $300k each? I find that hard to believe as many of the belts we saw on TV were replicas re-leathered by Paul Martin (from the clip used in this video). I doubt Dana is even close on this figure. Great video though!
I hate how dirty the UFC did Goldie, but Jon Anik has quickly become my favorite commentator. Dude's such a pro, you can tell he truly loves the sport, really cares about doing his job well, and puts in his best effort every event. And every now and again he'll say some insane shit about custody battles or laugh like Mickey Mouse, and it's great.

Anik was the perfect replacement for Goldie who by his later years had become very repetitive and stale with his fight starting and ending calls. I do agree that Goldie was done dirty and he deserves a an induction into the Contributor Wing of the UFC HOF.
I miss mid week events and how there would regular breaks between fight cards, made the events mean a bit more. The current UFC schedule is just like prime WWF, near on every week with out fail, touring the world putting on monthly PPV's. Tournaments/Grand Prix would be good for divisions with dominant champs, especially if that champ is trying to take another belt.

Personally I absolutely love the fights on almost every Saturday
Funnily enough, I’ve always hated the new belts, but lately they’ve truly grown on me. So much cleaner and I love the ruby idea
I went to my first live event in Vancouver last month and was pleasantly surprised to discover that Face the Pain is still played before the main card in the arena, so at least there’s that.
What I hate is that you still have to pay for the ppv when you have ESPN + when wrestling PPVs are free on peacock
I just wish they'd say who dropped that sweet intro music...

Haha right. I don't even hear any music during the intro anymore... am I missing something?
Reebok deal better be on top of this list
I immediately thought "Face the Pain" when I saw this. I miss those intros terribly, they got me so hyped lol.
Did they add Dan Hardy’s “Stop the fight” for that Silva vs Iceman video game section!! Lmao it’s the little things they do here

I like the new belts tbh
Wednesday night fights. I agree with that change. My wife gets annoyed with fights almost every week end now.
I kinda prefer the look of trunks without a bunch of sponsors on it but it irritates the hell outta me that the fighters can’t have sponsors but they can fight inside a chain link nascar jacket while ads are read by the commentary team between rounds and sometimes during the fights.
MMA always on point
I know a good dozen people that are active watchers and fans of mma. Not one of them pay for the PPV. Either go to a bar that’s showing it or stream it.

I miss going to the bar, my area doesn't put them on anymore
I miss the old tale of the tape track. That symphonic music is so cool.
I'm from The Netherlands, and Veronica(use to be a radio channel, now it's also a tv channel) had a contract where they posted fights on their website. It was fun, no downloading for a while. But then the contract ended, and you can guess where/how I watch UFC events now.
I actually quite like the look of the new belt. And the idea of adding gems for every defense making your belt even more unique is better than just getting a new Normal one every time. The old belt just looked old and out dated although I’ll admit, pretty iconic

My thoughts exactly. The new belts look great. A simple modern design and the gems for defenses are a nice touch.

I kinda like the new belts, but the old belts were 300,000 a pop so D. Johnson has 10 old style do the math.

@tekanatoken that's just one belt now, that's 330,000 for one, what are the gems worth?

I don't really get it's "outdated" the only reason you could realistically say that is because it's no longer current. Of course something like aesthetic is a subjective statement. Vut i definitely think the new belt is super hideous looking. That "sleek" look is honestly just bland and boring. Like people who do their whole house in white or grey
5:06 "Stop the fight!" Lmaoooo perfectly placed
Can y'all puhleeez do an in-depth video on the Reebok shenanigans Brandeen Shnobb and just all around fuckery? Love your content. Best YT MMA channel out there IMO
Very accurate list. I was also disappointed when they got rid of "Stitch"
The new UFC belt has grown on me but initially I absolutely hated it lol 😂
I've watched since TUF 1 on spike TV. Goldberg needed to go

YO I am in the b-roll on this video! Love you guys, I started doing MMA videos because of you guys! 09:02
One that did not make the list is all the bars and restaurants that don't show the UFC ppvs anymore. Before I can walk into any Buffalo Wild Wings or Dave and Busters to see it, now it's very difficult to find a spot that shows it. Also the UFC website would tell you what bars/restaurants purchased the PPV, now I don't think it does anymore and the website itself is garbage as well.
I actually like the new belt design better but I really thought it was cool how the champ would get a belt for each defense back then

They still do atleast islam got a new belt after his volkanovski defence
Love the new belt and the uniform idea. Hate the fighters lost a lot of money, but it made the sport look more professional and legit by going the uniform route. 300K per belt is ridiculous!!!! One belt idea was really needed!!!
I hate the inconsistency of the judges scorecards ever since legalize gambling got involved
