One big tip for classic lolitas just getting started: get some lace tights. Especially if you have particularly large calves that don't get along well with socks, a nice pair of lace tights in white, ivory or black depending on your base neutral will be a workhorse in your wardrobe. I've also got some tights with small polka dots for more whimsical coordinates. And don't fear the couch-lita! I have been wearing classic for a decade now, and by giving myself the space to enjoy grandma couch florals alongside other motifs, I've opened myself up to pieces that I really love. Enjoy the full breadth of classic lolita motifs, of course, but remember that it's okay to fall in love with a piece that makes you look like a very stylish sofa.

I love lacy tights, just got a new pair recently too. Couch florals are not my style but im glad that other people enjoy them. It's surely a Testament to how varied classic lolita can be there's so many smaller motifs and styles within it.

@@DrPapillon It is such a broad category of lolita, especially with its potential to overlap with sweet and gothic on either end. It's a lot of space to play in. :)

Chameleon lolita, I like that label. It resonates with me a lot. And big yes for all that classic lolita representation! People who lump all classic lolitas into one bag completely ignore the wonderful diversity of stylings and motifs that exist under that umbrella. And considering how classic is both amazing on its own and a great style to blend with other ones (sweet-classic or classic-gothic are both easy mode style expansions), that just makes me sad. Lots of great tips that I'd happily sign my name under and I'm sure this video will help some aspiring classic lolitas out there :)

I am very new to lolita. After researching I found I like the classic family of lolita. Just ordered my first dress in the mail (didn’t come yet), but I need advice for classic lolita hair styles. I have very long light brown straight hair that goes to my lower back and no bangs. I really don’t want to have to cut some bangs either 😅

Unfortunately I'm not sure I can help much. I have a pixie cut myself and I typically wear wigs if I want longer hair. Maybe try braiding your hair into different updos or braided crowns?

Hey! I'm a complete newbie in this fashion currently in my phase "I'm looking for more informations cause I feel like I'll never be ready enough" ^^' From what I've found yet, I'm more into classic and gothic lolita but there's so many substyles I might find new substyles I like more in a second XD Thank you very much for this video, I learned a lot and especially about the victorian-classic/rococo-classic types of silhouette. I did buy a Henrietta OP (my first and only dress) because I fell in love with it at the first sight but I never had the chance to wear it yet because still looking for the accesories for a complete coord. Thanks to you, I learned that this OP falls more in the victorian-classic and it's actually helping me narrowing what kind of stuffs I want to complete this coord. Also those advice about the base colours, main colours an themes were truly helpful! So for all of those, a big thank you! ❤️

@@DrPapillon In fact, I'm still unsure about "Indie brands" (am I writing it correctly?) as I learned about it recently. Kinda newbie to buying online too so if you have any tips and tricks, I'll gladly take them! For now, my main concerns are finding good shoes for my coord and finding out if there's a lolita community in my city but I'm sure I'll find a solution for both of them! 💪

@@misslissa3618 indie brands are independent brands, usually smaller and run by an individual or a small team. This is compared to bigger brands like angelic pretty or moi meme moitie which have much greater production capabilities and a wide spread reputation. So when I say indie, I mean small businesses, some of my favorites are sweet mildred, moonlandresin shop, melikestea, and violet fane.

Surface Spell is another taobao brand that can fit larger lolitas! Their standard sizing may not, but they do in fact have custom sizing and from what I've heard, they're one of the few brands that actually understand how to draft patterns for larger people. Be warned tho, they are more gothic-classic and sometimes straight up gothic I haven't ordered anything from them yet (but I'm planning to) so take this with a grain of salt haha

With motifs and such, is it frowned upon to wear mismatched prints? For example... I have a beret from Infanta. It's the red Rabbit and Poker print. However, I was unable to purchase the matching tights and now I can't find them ANYWHERE. Would it be wrong to wear... let's say... the Ruby Rabbit Poker Alice tights in red? Would they even match? I don't plan to have a print on my skirt (i don't want to draw too much attention to myself with my first coord) so I really worry about my accesorries.

  • @DrPapillon

You can definitely mix match specific prints but I'd advise that the colors at least partially match and hopefully the themes too. So if they're both poker themed items and in similar colors it should be fine 🙂
