I studied Japanese to the point that I can keep up a decent conversation about most topics (started about 2.5 years ago). As life goes on and busy busy takes over, suddenly I realized I had not engaged with Japanese in speech, listening or reading in over half a year. The first time I spoke again with a friend I was pleased to notice that talking was as easy as it was 6+ months ago. Even some less "every day" words such as 恐竜 and 細胞 came to mind immediately when needed (don't ask lol). So I don't think you loose it the second you stop using it. If you just want to "maintain" it and don't want to improve crazy amounts, I think occasionally listening to a podcast about something that interests you and texting with a friend is more than enough! :)

Your content, especially the songs, are really helpful. I listen to them and try to sing along to myself while on my walks and then go over them visually as well with my kids :)

Number 7 I have heard of before. While it is upsetting that the social realm of Japan has such hierarchies built within it, it is good that you mention it, Bunny! It's an important piece for learners of the language to be aware of the non-vocal aspects of the culture as well. If they decide to conform or be punk is up to them after that, I'd say. 🤣 My tip for everyone to remember more while learning a language is to WRITE DOWN as much as you can! Hand writing (NOT typing) the characters will greatly reinforce the knowledge within your brain. I personally prefer writing exercises over flash cards for this very reason! ♡ If anyone has access to a drawing tablet, phone + stylus, or iPad, etc. then writing Kanji characters digitally is very helpful! You won't have to erase the incorrect strokes or start all over again. Plus, you can potentially use a "calligraphy" setting in whichever program you use, and it will make your hand-written characters look much more elegantly drawn!

K-drama is influenced by western media; J-drama is more Japan-centric and the acting takes the theatre style more as a foundation. Western stuff appears emotionally flat when you compare the two. Also, while I know they are movies and not strictly dramas, people's lives are hollow without watching 'Stay Tuned!' and 'The Fable'.
