While not really fun, this is my most memorable unusual mass. My grandfather collapsed during the consecration, and I gave him CRP while mass went on around us. A nice physician who happened to be at mass too came over and helped me with CPR. While he couldn’t stop mass, the priest did offer up prayers for us, and my grandfather did revive before the paramedics took him to the hospital. Once we were at the hospital a bit, the parish priest came right over there after mass to pray over my grandfather and give him Anointing of the Sick. I was so grateful to those around us who either helped or called 911 or prayed for us. It was really touching.

This was so fun! I am a Protestant Preacher's daughter. I remember one Sunday my dad was preaching and from the balcony we started seeing popcorn fall a little at a time and then a few seconds later a slipper fell. Turned out a happy drunk man had wandered in and thought he was going to the movies. He told my dad he really enjoyed his skit! lol My mom and I have often said we could write a book on the funny, interesting things that have happened over the years at church.

Thanks for sharing these. It's so interesting to find out the reasons of the unusual happenings. When my dad died, we had a visiting priest from Belgium in our village who became very close to our family & my mom sort of adopted him. He would spend a lot of time with our family & my mom since she was not only grieving but had a very serious heart condition & I would have to fly out with her to the hospital very often. Towards the end of his 5 month visit, our family gifted him a qaspeq, which is a pullover top worn by Yup'ik people. He was so touched & grateful that he wore it for mass the next Sunday (our deacon, who is Yup'ik wears one). Another Sunday, he locked himself out of the room in the back of the church where all the vestments are kept. He said mass in his everyday clothes. During the holidays like Christmas & Easter, we sometimes get a visiting priest. Once while the visiting priest was saying the homily, the advent wreath caught on fire. He quickly put it out, without batting an eyelash. I'm so very grateful you're here with us !

A sweet little moment happened at mass when a little boy crawled under the pew to my daughter. As we stood up for part of the mass, she said to the mother, "I think this little guy is yours." What a moment. This was normal for her because she works at a daycare center. I won't forget it.

The only time anything unusual happened that I remember was during the Christmas season when the kids acted out the Christmas story. The toddlers were all dressed as sheep, and one overactive one escaped and went running around the church. It took awhile for the shepherds to round him up. I never knew before that sheep giggled.

My parents were at a funeral where the deceased’s non-Catholic son in law was asked to bring up the gifts. He apparently didn’t realize that meant carrying the decanters so he lugged the entire table down the aisle.

After lockdown finished, I was looking forward to going to Mass again, but as I don't drive, I needed a lift. The person who used to give me a lift was unable to do so then, so a request was put out at Church asking if anyone could give me a lift. Someone kindly agreed, even though she has to go a little out of her way to pick me up. Shortly after I had started going again, my hearing went down a lot (I have very severe hearing loss) and I almost didn't go because i wouldn't be able to hear much at all. But I did go, as I had really missed it. I couldn't follow the homily, but the incense was making shapes so I watched that. The shapes were Mary, holding a child Jesus, and lifting him up, then He'd go back into Mary, and then come out of her again. This happened about 3 times. I was telling the person giving me a lift home what I'd seen, and she told me that that was basically the homily. It had been about Mary's role as a mother.

One night our small country parish, the power went out in our church and was still not on before everyone had trecked in the next morning for Mass. This was in winter in Canada, many of us had traveled quite a ways to attend Mass, and it was before texting and emails could just send out a group message saying Mass was canceled, rescheduled or to advise us of the extremely cold church. Poor Father stood there in only his vestments, while the rest of us had every stitch of winter clothes we had on. He did the service as normal, but after reading the Gospel, he didn't even stay for a homily -- he walked over to his chair, and I think his behind had barely made contact with the chair, then he was up again going, "I believe in God, the Father almighty..." and whisked through the rest of service. He must have been so cold in only those thin vestments!

Last year, during Mass, my son was altar serving, and in the middle of Mass, Father and the altar servers all stopped and turned towards the back of the Church at the same time. None of us heard it but apparently they had heard a crashing sound. They carried on with Mass, and after Mass we learned what had happened -- a car had smashed through a small shed behind the chair. I was worried it was a hate crime, but it turned out it was an elderly man whose truck had had the gas pedal stuck on him and he had managed to steer through the shed instead of another car or the church itself. Somehow he managed to go through and miss several trees and did no other damage than the shed and some tire tracks in the glebe house back yard.

Loved this! I remember a New Year's Day mass for Mary the Mother of God. It was a holy day of obligation. We were all in line to receive the Eucharist when a teenage girl in line suddenly crashed to the floor. I was shocked and worried and a couple of parishioners rushed to help ( one was a doctor). I was puzzled as to why Father just looked amused. I later realized that perhaps she had celebrated a bit too much on New Year's Eve!

I fainted during Mass a few times when I was young. Christmas Eve Midnight Mass was one of them. My sisters were in the choir so we had to go. I think one time was at a long Easter Mass. My dad would end up spending the rest of mass in the car with me. Luckily I grew out of that. lol

We had a rat run across the rafters during Mass, gasps and small screams… Fr stopped Mass to find out why, and carried on. It was not a relaxing Mass! I worked in the parish office, a local cat decided he would take part time residence in the church and parish office, he strolled up the aisle at a weekday wedding and the happy couple had to keep stepping around him during their wedding service. They included him in their wedding photos. They exited the church, followed by the cat! He also strolled up the aisle during weekday masses, rubbing his face against each pew end, then settling either on the altar, on Frs chair if he was standing, or by Mary. He even made a nest to sleep next to the manger at Christmas.

Pope Benedict XVI would love this cat story, Ally! He was a cat man. It sounds like this cat was living a pretty good and holy life… maybe Jesus sent him to help take care of the rat problem, lol.

Have you or anyone else done something embarrassing? Perhaps that could be another video. One priest on KZread said he celebrated a wedding and forgot to marry the couple. The air conditioning was broken and the priest was concentrating on just making it through the Mass. The priest processed out and the bride's dad went running after him and said, "Aren't you going to marry them?". The priest was, of course, so embarrassed and went back in for the exchange of the vows. A friend at my parish said she went to confession, confessed all her sins and wondered why the priest wasn't saying anything. Turns out there wasn't a priest in the confessional!

Catholicism is work salvation, please turn to Christ in faith as the Bible clearly says we are saved by grace which translates to CHARIS meaning "unmeritted favor/free gift." quite literally. There is a Reason why Paul says in Romans "for the wages of sin is death, but the FREE gift of God is eternal life through christ Jesus our lord." Again grace's literal translation in the Greek is "unmeritted favor/free gift." Salvation is completely free all you have to do is believe that what Jesus did for you 2000 years ago actually worked. He died as a substitute for sin on the cross for you and me because the penalty for sin is death, if the penalty has already been paid and "by grace you have saved through faith" then all you are doing is believing that his payment was for you, a.k.a excepting it and believing you have eternal life as a result of his finished work (and of course believing he rose from the dead as a dead savior can't save you.) The reason you cannot add a work to Christ's finished work is because as Paul makes clear in Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." You aren't under grace if you add something to the gospel because grace must be unmeritted for it to be attributed to you. Again, you are just trusting in what Christ already did for you, that's why in ephesians Paul says "after you believed, you were sealed with that holy spirit of promise, which is the GUARANTEE of our inherentance until the redemption of the purchased possession." Paul can't use the word guarantee here if salvation is partially based off of something you do, as obviously YOU can fail in your efforts meaning there is obviously no guarantee. But if it is entirely based off of what Christ did, then there is a guarantee.

Hello- it sounds like you have come across some wrong information about the teachings of the Catholic Church. The Church has never taught that we are saved by work. Here is an article that explains this topic very well: www.catholic.com/qa/why-does-the-church-teach-that-works-can-obtain-salvation Hope that helps!
