    My dad bought a brand new KW K100 in 1973 for $32k. 425 Cat with a 15 speed transmission. It cost more than our $29k house!

    The last truck my dad bought before he passed was a 1990 KW K100. It had a 12.7 liter,430hp Detroit Series 60 with a 15 speed transmission. Yeah, he loved those KW's...and with good reason. I'm lucky that I got to drive it...

    I remember going to the KW dealership with my dad in 1976. The lot was full of the Bicentennial K100 Aerodynes, flat tops and the W900 Model A conventionals. All with that beautiful Red, White and Blue paint scheme. I wish I had a picture of all those beautiful trucks lined up in a row...

    The new Aussie K200 is way more advanced than the old K100. It’s got a flat floor and rides as good as a European cabover except it’s got a much bigger sleeper and is built to last. It took a while to get used to the different shape radiator grille, but everyone is used to them now because there’s so many of them around.

    The only reason we’ve got them is because of length laws. You mainly see them on 26 metre B-Doubles which is just about all you’ll ever see on east coast highways where just about everyone lives. In the north and west which isn’t so populated it’s mainly conventionals hauling multi-trailer roadtrains. Kenworth is #1 seller here for both cabovers and conventionals. There wouldn’t be a market for class 8 cabovers in North America I would think. For one thing they are more expensive to make than a conventional.

    Damorange refrigerated Transport , mostly use K200 X15 Cummings engines fatcabs on 26 b- doubles and now they use them on b- doubles with A&B quad axle configurations they never fail them . Beats me why they stopped using them in the USA.

  • @josephherrmann6304
    @josephherrmann630410 ай бұрын

    The HG-Hank Goodin truck was leased onto Carretta back in the day when I was with them. US dealers did not want the new KW cabover because they had a firm hold with conventionals in the market. Drivers wanted the long hood, cool -look and then they found they couldn't get in or out of many places like a cabover. Many large carriers switched to conventionals because they could attract new drivers-purely a marketing strategy in recruitment.

    George Toma I would suppose so. I’d imagine it’s similar to our laws here in Australia about importing from the USA. Over 25yrs is ok. But it’s a nostalgia type thing, for a working commercial vehicle the steering wheel would need to be on the correct side. You could call Kenworth here and ask them to build you one. Maybe they could do a limited export deal, we don’t make much here anymore. GM killed our local car plant, we were sending you Utes and Pontiac’s for a while, your import laws killed it.
