What a lot don't know is what Universal was planning at one point for the 2003 re-release. They planned to change all of the 80s songs with rap songs that were popular at the time to try to make it more "hip", however DePalma himself stopped it saying the soundtrack was perfect as it was. However that still didn't prevent Universal from making an entirely new sound mix composing of a bunch of new sound effects (most noticeable with gunshots and such), this remix is the one that's included on all blu-ray releases and the newer 4K release. But thankfully if you go to the audio options and switch to "English 2.0" you'll get the original theatrical sound mix.

Al makes a great ganster period. If you've not seen it Carlito's Way is another great job by Pachino

Very surprised you credited the original Scarface as Howard Hughes, as it is Howard Hawkes. Considered to be one of the greatest film noir directors, to many an original pioneer of the genre. I recommend learning his catalog and familiarizing yourself with his movies. Tremendous gaff to such an amazing director. Love your stuff and I know everyone misses details and you produce a lot of content. Take it with a grain of salt Minty, I am a huge fan of your work.

Really? That was a very bad acting job then, because I thought he was playing a greasy, Italian, guido from the bronx. I never got scarface. I never seen Tony Montana with a greasy curl, a ruff scraggly beard, a toothpick, a cheap imitation leather vest & a bunch of fake gold chains on tangled all up in Scott Hall's chest hair. I'm calling fake news on that one. Maybe he played the bootleg straight to video rendition of Scarface. I didn't catch that movie. Was the low budget indy film any good?

I love the hell out of this movie I've not watched it in some time but I also saw the original and liked it as well. I need to rewatch it soon. I find it hard to believe De Palma didn't want Michelle Pfiffer for the role as she was perfect in my opinion and not to mention gorgeous. I love her.

I remember when I was a kid watching diehard three on TV and he said yippee kye yay melon farmer! lol Our whole family burst out laughing

In a weird way, I can imagine how Glenn Close would’ve handled the role of Elvira. I feel as if she would’ve given the character more of a crazed and neurotic side, especially during the dinner fight scene. I’m glad they went with Michelle Pfeiffer, though.

A few other interesting tidbits, the whistling from the original movie is actually based off of Tony Accardo, who ran the Chicago Mob after Capone. Accardo was known to beat people to death with a bat but before he would start his attack he would whistle. The beginning of the 1983 version is based off of a real event. While the movie is fictional in the beginning they are part of the Mariel Boatlift (or Cuban Boatlift) which occurred between April and October on 1980. Lastly, the shower scene where the man was cut up with a chainsaw is based off of stories of how some South American drug lords would have people killed.

That's interesting cause when he said whistle before he attacks it made me think about Batman & Robin tv show from 60s, the Joker played by Cesar Romero used to do the whistle and Jack Nickleson even emitted doing a dedication in the movie Batman to Caesar Romero whistle, if only Caesar was still around to ask if that's were he got idea for the Jokers whistle. maybe it was because KZread supports Communists like Castro and the movie made Castro look evil.

One other interesting tidbit, when they were filming the shootout scene, Pacino accidentally grabbed the barrel of the machine gun. He burned his hand so badly, they had to delay shooting for over a week so it could heal a little.

Remember when Brian De Palma made great films? I wish I knew what happened to him where now he can’t even seem to make a decent film, much less a good one.

Excellent, really impressed you've got the Speilberg mention in there. This weekend I watched the biography documentary "Spielberg" made in 2017 and they include his visit to the set of Scarface :-)

Another fact: The woman Manny is flirting with during the chainsaw shower scene, Tammy Lynn Leppert, was actually reported missing 4 days into shooting. Suspicions abound from serial killers to the mafia. She even had her own Unsolved Mysteries episode.

Hey Minty there is a sequel only video game of Scarface the world of yours. The game release in 2006, The game begin when Tony fight all the assassins who try to kill him like the movie. But in the game Tony manage to kill all the assassins and escaped from the mansion before the cop show up. Tony hiding his hideout and so angry at Sosa was all behind.

That game was so good. Epic soundtrack, plenty to keep you occupied & a auto aim system that worked really well (unlike GTA). A proper PS2 Gem.

First time I saw this was in a nightclub in the Philippines (during the day before the place got lively) totally uncut and I was completely sold. My favorite movie for many years after that.

Another fun fact: the chainsaw scene was inspired by actual files and events from the Medellin Cartel. Also, the movies popularity died off for like 10 years and to Brian DePalma’s surprise, was brought back in pop culture through rappers in the 90’s.

I want to see the character of Tony Montana in the Shining. Tony sticks his head in the door he axed and yells "Say hello to my little friend!"

Dope! Thanks for making a vid on this classic movie.

Have not checked all comments but one of the most important things and likable things about Tony is his affection for children. We see this at least three times: once at the pool when he establishes easy rapport with the kid when his pal is about to approach the woman; then when he asks Michelle about her wanting kids; and finally, when his refusal to allow the murder of a car with a woman and kid(s) to be bombed which of course leads to his death. I don't know if his liking kids is a fatal flaw but it is central to the character -- do not know if this aspect was present in original.

Another great one from Minty! You rock, dude!

I have the special edition DVD that includes a cut of the film with a F-bomb counter ,kinda like the joke kill counter in Hot shots 2, but with a bomb and a counter
