Not from WoW but GW2: a material storage system. FF has such an extensive crafting system, my inventory is constantly bloated with more or less useful materials, I constantly have to check prices if they're worth selling on the market board or not, and it's just kinda frustrating and adds unnecessary inventory management. GW2 has a button in your inventory along the lines of "add all material to storage", and your material storage contains slots for *almost all crafting materials in the entire game* that just get thrown in there (capped to 250 by default, but can be expanded). All crafting stations are able to access them, no need to pick stuff up, realize you're missing something, running back and forth between storage, vendor and marketboard.. it's just such a huge QoL thing for me that the lack of it makes crafting in FF a more unpleasant experience for me.

Their server architecture is a giant clusterfuck. That's why the game has so many janky implementation of its features from top to bottom. I mean, can you imagine that it took them so long until ps3's removal that they started to add something like chocobo saddlebag?

  • 3 жыл бұрын

I couldn't stand crafting in GW2, and crafting is the thing I love most in mmo's. The items never felt real when I gathered them, it felt more like I was gathering a resource in a mobile Iphone game. You click a node and you increase a bar of crafting "items" in some nebulous "bank" inventory detached from my character. It did not feel like an mmo and it made me feel physically sick to use the system. I pray to any god that XIV never "gains" such a system.

i can agree with pulling items from retainers storage when crafting something but i dont think we need a material storage like gw2. In ff14 when you want to craft something you go out and get it or just buy it from MB, i don remember how gathering was in GW but i think its was more of a exploring type of gathering, making it harder to get what you want when you want so the storage system there makes sense.

There was a way in the past where you could mail stuff between your alts. It used to be that you could force crash your game (like through task manager). And then before your character times out -- log in with your alt, search your timing out character and throw them a friend invite before they timed out. And then you just log onto your main and accept it. All of my alts are linked to my main this way. I heard they removed the ability to do it, but I haven't tried recently.

Not "pay money into the mogstation for more storage". Not "dump it into a retainer bag". I mean "just more storage, on my person, so I can swap classes on the go without stopping and selling stuff off constantly". There's no reason why it has to be the way it currently is. We did fight for Ishgard in Aymeric's grand melee, and we even dueled Raubahn (who himself left his position in Uldah to go to his home Gyr Abania). But I wouldn't want all cities added. The 3 original starter zones and city states are more alive than in other MMOs because much is located there that cannot be done anywhere else. Ishgard is the only city where the WoL does have a home and even a family. It was interesting to see that Ardbert felt the same way about the former kingdom of Voeburt in Norvrandt and he's still dressed for the cold even as he wanders around the Source.

I saved all the MSQ gear I didn't need for my DRG and was horrified to see it filling up nearly a full retainer of storage space. So I started selling it. He's leveling in dungeons anyway, so he'll get everything he needs. Or I'll just buy it back. Then you decide you'll level up some crafters, but nobody levels some crafters, you level them all. All of it murders your inventory. So I just sell and sell and sell. Otherwise I end up playing Inventory Management the MMO. I actually don't mind gong back 10 levels and regrinding them. I'm seeing the instances again and again, but it's from a different perspective each time and the gear I turn in for GC seals or share with the others. Having all my jobs on one character is fantastic, but clearly nobody has dealt with the inventory side of it.

The problem with having more raid difficulties is how fast gear would scale. More raids means ilevels increasing faster meaning numbers go crazy sooner than expected. Another problem multiple raid difficulties created in wow was killing raids too fast. People just forget all the other difficulties exist and old raids just die within the content of current expansion even, all due to the huge gap in Ilevels that many difficulties created. Then since you mentioned there is also the queue times. Now you have spread the community into 4 or more different difficulties for the same bosses. Thinning out the community even more and making finding groups for that content harder. In WoW the raids are part of the main story, in FF they're not. People who can't complete the normal raids can just choose not to do them. They cant do that in wow and is why LFR exists.

Agree with everything except for more raid difficulties. I think two is the perfect amount - normal mode for the story and savage for dedicated parties. WoW suffers from difficulty bloat which also inflates the iLvl jump from tier to tier by a lot because they want to reward players for every difficulty.

Yeah, seeing how polished savage and ultimates are, I wouldn't want to risk sacrificing that in exchange for more of the same stuff. People forget that while WoW manages to release more raid content, they're often overtuned and buggy, while our devs basically never had to patch any of the raids. I don't want them to risk quality over quantity. That said, Mythic+ dungeons and generally more 4 men content is a good idea.

id like 1 more raid difficulty something like savage but remove AOE markers, something that really challenges the players. The thing about WoW is that while its repetitive for the same tier, theres always a chance at an upgrade so youre rewarded for it. I would rather have that than the content drought clearing the same 4 fights every week. 1 more difficulty would be perfect, or 8 boss tiers with normal/savage.

@@BrandonMart1011 well, we kind of have one more difficulty with ultimate. If you think clearing the same 4 fights every week is boring, then adding one more difficulty will just make it even worse, bc instead of spending 2 months clearing the hardest difficulty, you will spend 1 month clearing the middle tier and then 2 more months clearing the harder one. Wich makes 1 month more of doing the same fights over and over again.

to add to my last answer, what I mean is that the fights don't change too much from one difficulty to another. Today the raid mechanics have a big gap between normal and savage bc there is only 2, if you add another one, the gap of mechanics will decrease from one to another and will just make it feels way more repetitive.

The thing that I think you missed that FF14 would really benefit, especially for newer players would be the Dungeon/Raid journal that is present in WoW that allow players to see what happened and maybe how to mitigate that problem. Even if FF14 would not introduce it like WoW does (immediately telling you all spells and what they do), they could do something maybe in line with progressive discovery. What I meant by that is as you see a boss do a mechanic, it'll be discovered, maybe at the beginning it would be "Boss casting this does frontal cone", second time you see it would be "It does X amount of damage"...etc This would still allow a sense of discovery whilst not needing the players, especially newer players to having to need to constantly alt-tab or look at another screen for dungeon/raid information. And those that want to help could also say "Hey you can check out the journal which will give you tips on the engagement we just didn't so do well on". Just food for thought for someone who recently started FF14 and mainly play tank.

for dungeons literally every attack is telegraphed (with a few exceptions which 5.3 got rid of aswell, rip Aurum Vale) For raids, the vast majority of normal raid mechanics are telegraphed aswell, while Savage sometimes telegraphs sometimes doesn't but Savage is about learning said fight by trial and error (you can look at guides but that's not the original intent from the devs) Dungeons are never punishing enough to flat out have a journal saying what each and every attack does and howmuch damage it does, for example, every dungeon has a script for each boss "boss uses this at x% HP" you see this come back a lot or just simply run through it's script of attacks till it dies (the grand cosmos is a glaring 1 for that, the boss after his 2nd blue fire mechanic never uses said mechanic even though it could technically keep repeating it) Normal raids are only 8-10 minutes long generally, so having a log for normal raids is kinda pointless since the fight isn't that punishing, how often everyone except 1 healer and 1 tank dies but the healer does LB3 and everyone is back, how often we should've wiped but we didn't (granted you got players who just eat everything they can, an telepgraphed AOE? must stand in it, but then we're talking about them just simply not catching onto simple signs, so more of an intelligence matter imo, with Kefka for example, he will throw everyone for a loop with the reverse mechanic, after 1 usage i instantly think "last time he did this and i correctly dodged it he hit me anyways, so maybe the ? attacks are reversed" so i stand in said AOE and dodge it.

I'd love to go run those dungeons, but having to lose my kit in the process isn't that fun. My first thing I really want from WoW is toys. I know you kinda covered the collection tab, but I feel like toys on their own deserve recognition. There are so many whacky, fun and cool things in WoW for goofing around. Items that make your character huge for a few minutes, items that make your character tiny, turn them orange, turn them into a crab, let you look like another player, or your pet, makes everyone in the raid to /train, summons a fish that everyone gets to kick around for 5 minutes, and more! There'd be so much potential for whacky shenanigans and fun with toys. My second on is not a part of the game itself but I would love for a Wowhead-like website to become a thing. There aren't really any comprehensive databases like it for FFXIV. In WoW, I can see an item and look it up on WoWhead to learn right away where I need to go or what I need to do to obtain it. Or reverse that and look at a boss to see what it drops. It's quick, it's easy, and there are even tons of guides and stuff too. FFXIV has 2 websites: The Wiki, which is in depth with some things, and then has sparse to zero details on other things, and then you have Eotzea Database on the lodestone where you can sometimes find what info you need but is unintuitive and kind of unreliable if it's not crafted or from a duty. My third thing is a tiny, but important thing, but please, for the love of god, can the items like orchestrion rolls, minions, and mounts get the red tool tip text that says "You already collected this" if you have it? Some things dont let you buy or roll on them if you already own it, but other things do which makes it confusing and annoying when I have to go into my physical log and check my list to see if I have something.

I think MMO's in general need to explore new types of content outside of the typical pvp, dungeon, and raid endgame. We will see how much Bozjan Front differs from Eureka, but I do like the idea of a huge PVE battlefield. Perhaps they should bring sieges into new expansion cities or towns that happen periodically like in FFXI's Besieged. Dungeons are in a very weird place, they're only ever relevant in the beginning of a new expansion and are then quickly forgotten. Mythic Plus was the only reason I was playing wow for a long time. it is one of the few things left in the game you still need a tight-knit group of friends to really go far with. Sadly WoW decided they would make the Mythic system worth nothing to do, on top of making some dungeons extremely hard if you don't have particular classes (Jobs). Mythic Plus is also one of the few forms of PVE where Healers MUST do DPS to get far, or that is how it was in the last two expansions. The new dungeons added a ton of healer-only mechanics that are more stressful than fun, Especially because Healer tool kits are not all the same so some healers literally just have to heal through Fton of unavoidable damage where different (class/job) healer could cheese the mechanics. I think they fixed all of this, but i still have PTSD from all of it to the point even thinking of play wow stresses me out.

POTD is absolutely nothing like mythic+. M+ is current exp dungeons, but challenging, they get progressively harder the higher is the number of the mythic key you insert into the dungeon before you enter. And you don't do the same dg over and over, bc at the end of an m+ you get a new key to another dg with a higher level. So the more dg the exp has, the less repetitive the m+ system is. Also, the levels aren't really infinite in practice bc most ppl just do until +15, bc there is a reward ceiling. This way you can just settle for the key level you are comfortable with, if you are happy doing +10 for now, you can just do +10 until you feel comfortable doing +11.

G’huun had the side platforms you had to run orbs to. In BoD monk boss had the maze. Opulence split the raid down two trap filled corridors and the final room filled with molten gold. Mekkatorque required the raid to use line of sight in different areas of the arena. Stormwall Blockade has you teleporting between ships then fighting on a narrow dock. Jaina moved the raid from a ship to a frozen ocean wasteland. The last two tiers had some good set pieces as well, but I think I’ve made my point. There is nothing like that in FFXIV. I’ve been watching your videos daily for the past week probably because I renewed my sub after 2 years, it’s helping me to better understand the game I’ve loved for the past 7 years (I’ve been on and off playing, as I have been in school this whole time.) and feel more related to. I appreciate the way you approach the game and the love you feel for it too! Super refreshing videos.

Cool video! :) I would add that in wow 99% of the time it's visually way more clear to see things. Plus some of the visual effects of abilities/spells in FF14 seems to be overtuned - literally fireworkds in your eyes (there's a setting to reduce that tho).

hey Zepla! Just saw your video! catching up on all the old stuff and I love it!! The big thing to watch out for here- ESPECIALLY with things like Mythic+ is the toxicity it breeds. If you spend hours wiping because someone won't stop AOEing exploding trash packs, that's gonna foster negativity. Doubly so if there's some sort of penalty for an FF-analogue of Mythic+ The reason I stopped wow ages ago was because I was trying to do mythic+ with affixes and I accidentally wiped 'cause I was just a liiiiiittle bit too slow, and I was essentially blacklisted from the entire server, because I'd wasted their key. It was gone, drained, and they had to build up one from scratch. The fact that all of that hard work vanished from one mistake was bad enough, but the result of it was permanently locking someone out of that content because of a mistake. Also, I've been noticing- FF is a hell of a lot more casual than wow. Much lower skilled (Which isn't a bad thing!) in general. not as much of a focus on optimizing or getting THE BEST stat distribution or grinding out XYZ thing to max. As a result, there's not going to be a lot of demand for skill-based things because of it. Hell, take a look at novice network and mentor chat. You'll get yelled at and told you don't pay someone's sub for suggesting that people learn and master their 1-2-3 combo. LITERALLY the most BASIC thing any class has or should know, and trying to insinuate learning that is mandatory will get SO much hate.

In WoW when our character is synched we don't "lose" our skills, we have our entire toolkit available. I think doing older content would be way more fun if that was the case in FFXIV

It would also help people learn their rotations properly, it’s so annoying being level 80, trying to learn your rotation and getting into something like Sastasha and basically just spamming any AOE ability that your job might have

I changed my mind about this during my last bout of leveling alts. I really don't need to be summoning Bahamut in Sastasha or mass AoEing whole dungeons at that level. WoW's leveling dungeons are just an AoE zerg race of players dressed in heirlooms. If you give us all our abilities at that level there is no way to scale it properly, and it turns into a zerg rush. Leveling dungeons in FFXIV are slow, I get it, I'm leveling a DRG who has no AoE until forever. Unless you have a DNC and an over-geared tank, these low level instances take time. But they also teach you game mechanics. And when I see end-game players running away with stack mechanics, ignoring add phases while the boss goes invulnerable, etc etc, I think more time spent in lower level content might have helped.

The problem lies with balancing and group composition. A level 80 DPS, Healer, or Tank has so many tools, and many with really high potency or straight up mechanic negation, that just one person with an 80 kit in say, Stone Vigil, where everyone else is appropriately levelled, would absolutely make it just a speedrun to the end with even less challenge, and would easily be more than the combined strength of the other 3 where they wouldn't even need to be there, even with item level sync (materia isn't even counted in the sync iirc.) Nastronds, Deathflares, Gurens and Goken spam everywhere, and heaven forbid a single Improvisation+ Technical Finish. It would just absolutely demolish any and all content that those skills were not introduced around. Might as well queue unsynced. The dev team would have to go back to every single piece of content and go through every single move with a fine-toothed comb and individually balance and tweak them for said content.

@@Valanway Well stated. And none of this is worth development time, even if it could be done. Look what DNC does right now in low level dungeons without making this any worse. Why level jobs in dungeons at all if you're just going to be standing there watching everyone mow everything down for you? FFXIV has a pretty well balanced end-game, and a kinda wonky leveling system. WoW on the other hand has never balanced anything at end game to anyone's satisfaction but is constantly tweaking the leveling process. I'll take what we have in FFXIV and be happy with it. Honestly, it's just not that bad. My DRG may have to ST stab and jump his way to whenever it is he gets AoE, but he holds his own on bosses, and we all get to see some mechanics along the way.

Sad I had to scroll down so far to find this. Please never bring M+ to FFXIV. Having just finished KSM for BfA, I never ever want to do a M+ again. The grind and slog and the community surrounding M+ is so bad. The concept of difficulty constantly going up in dungeons is nice, but the stuff that comes with it... hard pass. 100% agree on transmog though!

maybe not the endless aspect of it but just a harder version of all the dungeons because it feels like it's such a waste of all the elements and design devs already invested in them. like a savage version of the dungeon. gearing up was never an issue in FFXIV anyways. so I doubt if it exist we would be compelled to do it, if not for the triumph of just clearing. It could be just an alternative 5 ilvl below BIS Savage gears or something.

  • @vuurigebrans

Whilst XIV does need a repeatable form of content, and the dungeons could use some spicing up, I do not think M+ would be the answer. M+ is inherently at odds with the gearing system XIV has. The only reason it worked this well in wow was due to the WF/TF shenanigans and the weekly chest. In SL they beefed up the chest to not invalidate within a month M+ after getting rid of WF/TF. If M+ would be added to XIV we'd have to get a complete overhaul of gear acquisition or else there'd be no point to do M+ besides unlocking the possible cosmetics you'd get for doing all dungeons on +X. Sure it'd be fun to run a few times, but you need something to chase to keep replaying the same dungeons over and over and over. I'd rather keep the current gearing system rather than getting M+.
