I’ve been plagued with agoraphobia/anxiety/panic attacks for so long. Have been doing exposure therapies + CBT. It’s so hard, but little by little there’s small victories. I think the hardest part is that nobody else understands. Thanks for the video ❤

Hi Martin, thank you very much for your wonderful videos, I am following your hypnosis videos for anxiety from a week and I find it very helpful, my body and mind got used to being in stress so much that relaxation gives me weird thoughts sometimes while I was in hypnosis, like "I feel my heart rate will go dangerously low" or "I am feeling so calm, is this calmness normal?" etc , also I find my body feels heavy and I can only feel my body where I have contact like my finger tips on my laps or my back and thighs which are in contact with the chair but not the rest of the body, I am new to hypnosis and your answer would really help me, also please do a hypnosis video for self confidence if possible, your voice is really soothing and encouraging , thank you 🙏

The feeling of heaviness at contact points is quite normal in hypnosis. Its just a sign that the body is very relaxed. The negative thoughts are just part of anxiety. Anxiety doesn't like us being relaxed. Its think we have to be hyper vigilant all the time. If you accept the thoughts and don't act on them, they will pass and come back less frequently.

I’m not sure how to get help, I’ve had it for 5 years and I’m only gonna get older, I thought I originally had Barophobia but I can go outside. But if I go in open spaces like a mall or Costco I just panic and it actually hurts my head, I sweat and it gets harder to breathe while I feel my chest beat. If I keep moving with people like my family near me it won’t be so bad, but the moment I stop walking and stand it all just hits

Hi Martin, I have been listening to your videos for a while now, I also see a local hypnotherapist and through my journey it has become apparent I hate the job I do and my career of 15 years in HR I am no longer happy with. I am fascinated by hypnosis and anything to do with the mind and would absolutely love to study to help people like you do. However I don’t know where to start and struggling to sift through every course on Google and what would be accredited. Do you have any advice on which provider/college/accredited body would be best to approach? I would appreciate any advice you are willing to give 😊 In the meantime I shall listen to more videos x

Hypnotherapy accreditation is a minefield in the UK. There is not one governing body but many and it seems anyone can set one up and issue accreditations. I did my training with a Cardiff based company almost 2 decades ago so I don't know if they still exist. Although I did not train with them, Chrysalis is a nationwide reputable organisation who run Hypnotherapy courses and if like me you decide that you want to learn other approaches so you can deal with more complex problems like anxiety disorders then Chrysalis do a Diploma in counselling also. (which is recognised by the Royal College of Nursing but unfortunately not by the BACP which is the most well known counselling governing body in the UK). A word of warning though. It is very difficult to make a career out of hypnotherapy so I would not quit your job just yet. But it is something you can do part time and see how it develops from there. Hypnotherapy also has its limitations. Its great for phobias (if done properly) but in most cases is not effective for anxiety disorders unless combined with other approaches like CBT. However a small percentage of people do respond very well to hypnosis alone.

Hi Martin, as i already informed that i have been suffering from balance issues n disequilibrium for long time.i have stopped going to doctors as they only give me antidepressants. I have a deep fear in my mind that this is not just anxiety but a serious diseases thatis causing issues. I have a fear that i have a heart illness i m really scared of that. Besides all these i am an overthinker, anxious person and have sleep disorders. I do watch videos but watching alone cannot cure me.

Hi there, I’m not Martin sadly but from experience with severe health anxiety, I recommend getting the initial reassurance. So for instance if you think you have a heart issue, get some tests like ekg and echo and if they’re clean you have nothing to worry about. The reason I say this is that if you don’t get the initial reassurance the thought or worry of having a heart issue will always be in the back of your mind. This helped me realise the anxiety is what I need to work on and not a potential heart issue interfering and this really helped me get less anxious. Just saying it’s very unlikely a heart issue if before your health anxiety, you didn’t experience shortness of breath, chest pain etc. I hope this can be of some help:)

If the agoraphobia is linked to Panic Disorder, I have a video that explains how it develops. The production is not great as it was one of my first videos but it does give a good explanation of how Panic Disorder develops into Agoraphobia. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eqJm0a2KeLKzkaw.html

Its quite complicated. The cause of agoraphobia is usually avoidance stemming from the fear of a panic attack. But the next question is what is the cause of panic attacks. The answer to that is safety behaviours which are employed to try to prevent panic attacks but actually fuel the anxiety. But that still leads to the question, what caused the first panic attack and that gets closer to the root cause. The cause of the first panic attack varies from person to person but may include a build of stress or worry, or a particular stressful event. In some cases there can be a higher risk of anxiety disorders stemming from learnt behaviours from parents, childhood experiences and even genetics and personality may play a part. While it can be useful and interesting to understand what brought on the anxiety disorder it is not essential. It is what you do in the here and now that will make the difference and its great that you are making progress. I wish you all the best in your recovery journey.
