    France's Ocean Station Pods looks great. What sells is how I read, research, and explore the Ocean that seems like there is nothing, that I can turn into Creator's gifts to the humans we are, if also I am a good person, and know why it is great to live on Land and in Water. In a way, not to waste and have no behavior in nature to take wrongly. I like this video because does make living better as well and uses resources that do not harm the futures humanities, humans, humane waterways. Thanks. Reminds I, not many are good in the water and few are good at it. But with some millions can be possible by very great people? Can't wait to go warp speed in the water, for good and not for bad, still not all trivial and not squabble matters in arguments and debates, is the action that matters that is the great product that wins. I don't think there is a number one yet. But it does show a purpose and a way of how ships should be. I love this video. Thanks. It has won my heart if the intent is to be with the sea intent to better the sea instead of battle the seas to win not wars, but to know the needs of the Ocean and that of how ties with the Land and humanity to explore better.

    Subscribing after I send this: I've thought for a while that it is our sea-space that we need to use more immediately than space space. The sea orbiters are along my best ideas of how to proceed. A grid of these would aid use of modern day gliders, launched from catapults easily enough. As a kid we dreamed of the year 2000. 2020 and finally I can see a plan for progress.

    Do those solar panels ‘power’ the boat or just trickle charge batteries? Do they have to return to port for recharging or can the panels fully charge the batteries in a reasonable length of time (a day)? This applies to most of the boats you mentioned. Are the panels just trendy decorations or do they actually power the boats?

  • @JWH-01

    @JWH-01

    Good question. I was especially wondering that about the center console "cruiser". It only had a small panel on the roof of the center console. I'm all for solar power, once it gets affordable and practical. The wattage rating on the panel is only at "peak sun", which isn't for very long.

  • @jaquigreenlees

    @jaquigreenlees

    The Silent boats and the number one fully recharge their batteries IF you are going slow enough ( 8 knots usually ) and maintain that speed overnight. You can adjust the speed to fit current power production ( stormy days going slower, cloudless days going faster ) as needed / desired. Silent does offer a hybrid option, with a diesel electric generator if desired. ( possibly a good idea, as storms do kill most solar production ) As well as the fully automatic kite sail option to have wind powering your travels at least part time. ( fully automatic meaning you press the button to deploy or retract and it does all the work )

    John Hempel I was going by a back-of-the-envelope figure of 15 watts per square foot. I’m not an engineer, so I don’t know how to break it down from there. I was hoping an engineer in the comment section would ‘do the math’, that I can’t. You can stick a solar panel or two on anything and call it “green” but it’s not that simple.

    What happens to the lithium batteries if the boat catches fire? What is the cost of lithium batteries to replace? How often will they need to be replaced? What kind of pollutants does it put into the ocean Or lakes if sinks? What is maintenance cost on drivetrain and solar panels especially in salt water? How long will the lithium batteries last in cold climates continuously?

  • @philehr

    @philehr

    4 жыл бұрын

    Our Boats (Silent Yachts) have automatic fire extinguisher designed for lithium batteries, Cost today to replace them is pretty high (about Wh/2 in €), Nobody is exactly sure how long, but we expect them to last decades if treated well, I guess no ship is harm-free if they sink so about the same or even less than a traditional yacht, all of our yachts a run in salt water and to date we only had to change the anodes on the drivetrain the rest of the drivetrain and the solar panels is maintenance free! The batteries last in colder climates as long as in warmer (batteries are heated with the boat) If you have more questions just ask!

    philehr ..Thanks for the information. Fire is always a concern on a boat obviously. We always have problems putting out fires with Involving batteries they burn so hot especially on these electric cars ‘nowadays’ two out of three times the cars burned to the ground. I would love one of these boats that would be 40 to 50 foot long houseboat that we would use in the United States in the reservoirs like lake Cumberland to retire on something in a little smaller size than a yacht. Maybe alittle more affordable for us would be great.Good luck with your yachts.

    Tesla is said to be in development of a battery that can last for 500k miles and another at 1mil miles. A step in the right direction and hopefully sooner rather than later lithium batteries will be replaced with a more environmentally-friendly alternative as well.

    "Fortunately, solar panels are highly corrosion-resistant. Solar modules themselves are vacuum-sealed between their back sheet and interior materials, which will prevent interior corrosion due to salt. This means that unless there is a crack in your panels, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to your solar modules corroding." source news.energysage.com/solar-panels-resistant-salt-corrosion/ There are a few diffrent ways hydrogen can be made from water. Polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolyzers, Alkaline electrolyzers, and Solid oxide electrolyzers. Using the polymer membrane method "water reacts at the anode to form oxygen and positively charged hydrogen ions (protons). The electrons flow through an external circuit and the hydrogen ions selectively move across the PEM to the cathode. At the cathode, hydrogen ions combine with electrons from the external circuit to form hydrogen gas. Anode Reaction: 2H2O → O2 + 4H+ + 4e- Cathode Reaction: 4H+ + 4e- → 2H2." Minor nitpick: "University of applied (arts and) sciences" is not one specific university in Germany, it's an entire category of higher education school separate from regular universities (it's complicated, it's related to Germany having 4 different high school diplomas). This specific one from your video was the Emden/Leer university of applied sciences. Also, did the Quad Marine Quad 44 not make the cut because it technically doesn't exist yet? :D

    Thanks for the info and thanks for watching. Maybe we missed the Quad Marine Quad 44 at the time. We will keep it in mind for the next time though.

    What I am seeing with the Yacht's is that there are so many Luxury Item's on board,it makes me wonder where the message of Energy Conservation and Efficiency went? Don't get me wrong,those are nice Yacht's,but they are too much!!!

    The majority of yacht are targeted at the fairly well of retired couple, so luxury is a big part of the market.

    As a sailor, I coulf put around 2000 watts of solar power paired with L-ion batteries and on a sailboat and power AC, a watermaker, water heater, a washer /dryer, oven, microwave, induction cooktop, and a dishwasher. This is all currently available technology, only limited by the efficiency of solar panels (currently around 22% for high quality tech) and the cost of deep-cycle L-ion batteries. It's not a matter of being profligate with the power, as one might accuse someone running a diesel generator to power these appliances, it's a matter of using the tech available to provide things that most people consider to be reasonable expectations.

    I like all the solar water crafts. I was hoping for an economic model! I cannot afford any of these boats!

    When performance and cost of these Eco-ships comes close to matching that of their fuel guzzling counterparts I can see making the change... Still waiting.

    Have you check sunconcept? We build a 40foot catamaran and its in the range of price of a gas guzzling 40footer. We have 4 catamarans build and 2 of them are for boat tours, that means they operate every day. We are starting to make our 5th vessel and its for another boat tours company. We are based in the Algarve ( south of Portugal ).

    My wind powered boat...... has a SAIL. Lol. Until the Sail, solar panel AND small wind generator combo on a 50 foot boat is the same price. I think it won’t sell. We need better Solar for that. Edit: Wow the Silent 50. Almost there.
